It was said in another forum that the 'young man' that gave the great description of the Nissan pickup being white and the camper ,,,he should be given a college scholarship for bravery and good thinking.
IF it wouldnt have been for him,,,maybe the perp would NOT have even been caught. Can you imagine having 'lost' your son for four years!! Thats a mightly long time to be seperated from a family at a tender age.
I would imagine the parents were ,in the back of their mind, thinking they MAY never see him again!!Most dont. What a horrid nightmare for any parent to have,
And I cannot imagine this wierdo criminal being given a bail option at all!! (he is still in jail) (but a one million dollar price tag on bail) Where would he end up??? What other heineous crimes would he commit,,,waiting for THIS trial???
Lock him up and throw away the key!!! he cant be repaired, never!!! the boys cant be repaired or made whole again, ever!!
But the fact remains there is a hero quality boy out there that gave VALUABLE info to police and led to the guys arrest and the 'find' of these two boys,,,he should be sooooo proud!! AND rewarded, where's the Donald's,Winfreys,Rockefellers, etc when they would count the most!!????

Doc Dave,
Couldnt agree with you more on those observations. TODAY show had him on and he actually had a suit on. (You could tell it was his first time to wear one ,,,probably in his lifetiime!!)
Didnt go with that scruffy beard or anything else. His mom was pretty good loking lady,,he-NOT-SO-MUCH!!!
Any body have ANY theories on why he didnt escape sooner??? Even heard he was riding in a cop car once(without his captor) and didnt say anything to the policeman.
Could he have liked his new life THAT much??? Had computer access and posted to his folks site to 'find' him and didnt say anything that would 'tip' them off by saying something cool and unique to himself.
S-T-R-A-N-G-E-!!! but look whos talkin--just don--

When something like this happens, the shame of it for the victim is profound. As if it's their fault, when really it isn't!
I agree. Just think if the policeman had said something to Devlin after being ratted on by Shawn. If things weren't handled correctly, he would be in even more danger.
Oprah's interviews with the families were awesome! It was all so interesting to hear the police telling how they found Devlin.
I'm just so thankful that the boys are now safe.

How many MORE kids Are NOT safe,,,how many is lost forever??
These two, even tho they are NOW safe,,,have a long uphill road to travel,,,their lives are pretty ruined. Not as bad as could have been. But NOBODY escapes unharmed from 'critters' like this one.
Makes me wish that like that Dateline deal on TV earlier a few months,,,that they would set up MORE stings and lock these bad people up,,,forever!!! SEEK THEM out,,,they deserve it!!

Did you hear the latest? Shawn's real father was convicted of attempted statutory rape in 2002. I believe it happened in 1994. I pray it wasn't Shawn, as he would have been VERY young.
I don't know if the man is in prison or dead. Didn't get that part on the news report.

My cousin had her three kids aducted when she was leaving a Hy-Vee store in broad day light.
That must have been over 17 years ago. The oldest girl called once about ten years after they disappeared and said only a couple words and then the phone was hung up. Never heard a thing from them since.

wow sick, She lost ALL three kids. That lady(your cousin) has to be living a nightmare,,,even today.. I just could NOT imagine. Probable way,I am thinking, is she left kids in the car while she ran in a minute. And they were gone. Who hasnt done something similiar
With all the kids that disappear there has to be quite an underground little business. I would think it is possible to infiltrate this area of crime.
Wish they could remove all kiddie porn off the computer. Dont know IF thats why you hear more of this now. The whacko sicko's had to be out there before.
Course IF they use the puter to catch and prosecute the predators,,,that would be excellent. Think they NEED to set up more stings and trap the rats!!!
Their was a local priest who got caught with kiddie porn on his puter. He didnt get 'much' for punishment. Agreed to get 'help' and probation I think.
How about the bravery of that wonderful 10 year old from Oklahoma who escaped from her captor as he was getting gas,ran in and announced to the clerk she was kidnapped. Saved HER life for sure. Not so many kidnapping stories have 'happy' endings!!!
Now like national news, the judge who gave a child rapist 60 days in jail for doing so. Dont know how THAT case turned out,,,but unexcuseable!!
Judges like THAT need a new education!!!Like disbarrment. Voted out, gone, never to judge again!!!

Just don, No she didn't leave them in the car. Both her and her mother plus the three kids were in hy-Vee in the middle of the afternoon. When they came out they were opening the car doors almost to get in when they were approached by a group who just literally took the three children and fled. sick

Just some thoughts on your questions:
I'm originally from a small farming community in Missouri. Not everyone in that state looks, dresses or acts like the folks whose son was kidnapped; however, there are quite a few who do.
Quite a few of my relatives do or did resemble these folks. I've had quite a few years to think about why some of my people look strange and at times act even stranger.
First it has to do with poverty. A lot of rural people in the southern part of the state are just flat poor.
Until you've had to live in those conditions, I know it's extremely hard to understand not shaving or going to the dentist.
That doesn't excuse one from being unclean, but it certainly does account for the way a person looks or dresses at times.
Secondly it has to do with education. There are still many people in that part of the country who just aren't educated. They're not stupid, just uneducated.
I'm the oldest of 6 boys. My father quit school at the age of 12 to start work. I'm the only one of the six who has an education beyond highschool (I have a Master's degree in Business).
So, it's my opinion that they're not bad people, they just have a lot of things working against them.
Please understand, I personally didn't take offense to what you wrote, I've felt the same way at times; however, these folks still love their kids, they still want the best for their families, they just don't have the same social or even financial status that others have.
Like my uncle used to say, "Poor People Have Poor Ways".
Just my two cents worth.

commentators on Fox News are still taking that judge to task. I hope something positive happens there, because it's ridiculous!!

Actually some things have changed down here [and really, St Louis is not in the Southern part of the state.]
I live in the Southern part and the economy is flourishing. We have ALOT of poor here, but it IS getting better.
I'm a Texan, so I don't take personal offense either to what was said, but overall the people of Missouri are great folks.
Most are uneducated, but they are very good people. And most of them smoke, hence the dental problems.
I think Mr Hornbeck was very articulate for not being very educated. Most of these people live in rural areas and basically have no "need" to get all dressed up!!

When I was a boy we thought every thing north of Columbia was northern (big farms, lots of grain, not many hills).
Everything south of Columbia (including outskirts of KC and St Louis) was in the southern part of the state (small farms, mostly cows and lots of hills).
It always seemed to me that the big farmers in the northern part of the state had money (Iowa and Nebraska like folks) and all the farmers in the southern part of the state were poor (kinda like the folks in Arkansas, etc.)(no offense you folks from Arkansas).
Just my thoughts.

Yes, this issue is close to home here. We've been looking at this little boy's photo for years. Yes, it is rural and in some areas poverty stricken. And I thought people were progressive enough not to openly mock folks who are less fortunate.
I found him to be eloquent and so sincere after a situation that would rattle the best of folks.
Having your child kidnapped and presumed dead for 4 years is the worst tragedy most parents fear. This man stated that he would continue the foundation in Shawn's name and devote himself to the search of missing and abducted children.
I wonder how many well groomed people with good teeth are doing the same?

On this topic a STL TV station has an extended interview with Devlin's upstairs neighbor. It's just the raw unedited interview about 10 minutes long.
Devlin was a very strange person to live above. I would of moved out at the end of the month. This guy was above him for I think a year and half.
Anyway, if interested go to this link and search on "neighbor"
