Quote from the State of the Union address last night:
There are many other ways that Congress can help. We need to expand Health Savings Accounts. (Applause.) We need to help small businesses through Association Health Plans. (Applause.) We need to reduce costs and medical errors with better information technology. (Applause.) We will encourage price transparency. And to protect good doctors from junk lawsuits, we passing medical liability reform. (Applause.) ***In all we do, we must remember that the best health care decisions are made not by government and insurance companies, but by patients and their doctors. (Applause.) ***
AMEN to that.
Now, all they have to do is put this into practice. Much easier said than done. The insurance companies and government ARE dictating our medical care and OUR doctors' decisions they make for our benefit are cut down.
Let's hold their feet to the fire and make this happen.

The malaria statement is probably about the President's Malaria Initiative. Here is an excerpt from the website:
The President's Malaria Initiative (PMI) is a historic $1.2 billion, five-year initiative to control malaria in Africa. Announced by President Bush on June 30, 2005, it is a collaborative U.S. Government effort led by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), in conjunction with the Department of Health and Human Services (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), the Department of State, the White House, and others.

That is why Texas is in so much trouble with LLMD's. Their recent tort reform had a provision to give more POWER to their medical boards.
They used that power to X the LLMD's. THAT in affects the patients!

Bush's actual health care proposal will work to discourage employers from providing health insurance. That pushes more people onto the individual healthcare market, where insurance companies can deny coverage to people and refuse to cover pre-existing conditions.
We've all read the posts on this board of people trying to find good, affordable health care on the individual market.
