I am no longer able to roll up the window on the passenger's side.
It is electric and it just stopped.
I am wondering what it will take to fix it.
I am thinking if I could just get it up, I would be a happy camper.
Especially before it rains or snows.
As a side note: the car also turned over 200,000 miles yesterday.

Yep fact of life for older vehicles.
I have an older pickup I have to grip the top of the window and 'help' it when the weather gets colder. Everyone says thats impossible,,,but NOT for me.
Can you grip it,,,is any window showing?? IF so try helping it while you push the button. You can carefully reach down in there with needle nose pliers to grip if all way down.
Does it click, make a sound or completely dead??Do all the other windows work,,,as in a fuse blown??
Sometimes it is the switch so try the switch AT that window,,,if that switch works and NOT driver side, its the switch!! Okay real dumb question,,,do you have the main switch ON while trying??
Other dumb question,,is one of the switches stuck in on position??
Otherwise you MAY have to have door panel taken off and the power unit checked(prob a mechanic issue) IF the power unit is shot,,,can you get a bone yard one?? Usually half price or less. These CAN run hundreds of dollars real quick.
Shop around, bargains can be found,,,try craigs list. Post a need it ad!! Its important that you KNOW what years cross and work for your car and model cross ALSO!!
Do you have ANY handy man around that can help with this?? Cabana pool boy?? Helper thru that church you talk that helps you sometimes??
Until you can get that done, its duct tape and plastic time!!! Cardboard works too IF you dont need to see thru it for safety!! IF you are going to drive this in mean time select clearest plastic you can find and put a duct tape X thru it for rigidity.
BUT check simple stuff first,,,like switch stuck, help needed and fuse parts.. PM me exact model year and make IF you need parts and I will check also,,,prices can vary widely on THIS stuff.

Kam,
My window on the driver's side isn't working either.
Try this if you can.
While holding the button to raise the window, kick the door panel
Really hard with your foot at the bottom right.
Sometimes it takes a couple of kicks.
Window motors and regulators used to be very expensive.
For an older vehicle, they aren't too expensive anymore.
This has happened to me many times.
Nothing like driving down the road and trying to kick the door panel.
BTW, my husband used to fix cars for a living.
Maybe one day he will get around to fixing mine.
Sure would be nice not to have to open the door at drive throughs,
Or kicking the heck out of my door panel.
Hugs,
Geneal

Geneal, That sounds like a bad connection to "ME". Wadda I know tho!!
Can you sorta make it a together project to do a probable fix?? before hand stop at a parts store and pick one of those tiny pouches of di-electric grease off the counter!!MOST places have those for 'give-away'
Those things are about the size of a little pack of sugar.
Other possible cause sounds like bad or dirty switch!! does it do it ALL the time or just spastic??
The motor part IS expensive,,,doubt the switches are. Are there any more switches for THIS stubborn window?? Try those,,,like on other side.
Anyway IF your hubby can take the panel off it takes one to hold it,, one to take connections OFF and apply the grease!!
IF it still does it try replacing the switch,,,still a 2 people job for easy do!! Takes 15-30 minutes tops unles you have something I havent seen before!!
For Kam,,,replacing the motor part is QUITE a job,,,I thought it should be easy,,,but it is MOSTLY all covered up and tight quarters.
How about that place close to where you USED to live,,,the ones who helped you with your power chair wheels!!
At least they could diagnose your prob easy enough while YOU set there!!
Are there garages where you live?? Can you ask your house manager(for lack of better word) IF you can park inside cause of window probs??
I KNOW your not feeling well right now so easy does it!! Enlist some tiny aid to HELP fix,,,or tape up!!
IF its a simple fix maybe less time to fix than tape!!!
here is a quicky fix,,,take a garbage bag, big black heavy duty and open door,,,place in top of door. close door.
Just tape bottom down if you can. Otherwise try getting something heavy that will lay over it and keep it down,,,like a carpet runner or chunk of worthless junk like that!!
Even cardboard and lean something against it to keep it there!!
Try tucking it into door handle!!OR put whole top of door 'inside the bag and close OR big enough plastic,'heavy' that you can wrap whole door and close on edges,,,NO tape!!(like from furniture store garbage!!)
Otherwise cars HAVE survived with windows down in a storm,,but MAY compound your problem!!
If your up to it PM me your phone number for othr ideas!!
BEST solution is jump in and drive it someplace they CAN fix quickly!!
Thats why I like hand crank windows of days of old,,,they generally ALWAYS worked!!being --just don--

OK. I finally was at the point where I would take this window thing one step at a time.
I sent an email to the guy from church asking for help.
I found the plastic to cover the window.
My brain was working well enough to get int he power chair and go to a local auto parts store that had given me good service in the past.
Rolled on down the aisle and found the duct tape.
The service guy asked me if I needed help.
Told him my brain works fine sometimes and other times it struggles. Told him I was struggling so not sure hwo this was going to come out.
Started talking.
Told him window not rolling up and wanted to know what the next step was.
Getting duct tape and plastic for now until brain worked well enough for next step.
He asked me a few questions. I was able to answer.
He told me his best guess was I had hit the lock button.
AS I was rolling out of the store...I thought...yep...praying that was it.
Yep. That was it. Brain was clear enough to see this time.
Had previously tried to see if htat was it but brain not working well enough.
Thank God. Fixed.
Easy fix.
Now, if geneal's window was so easy to fix.
guy at parts store said if not lock button, next steps were to check switches and fuses and motor...a mechanic's job.
I have noticed since I came down with this I get this glitch in the brain.
I know something isn't right but I have to wait until the brain is working well enough for me to make the connection.
Sometimes it is a matter of me taking it one step at a time..even if it is the wrong step..like lookign for the plastic.
Again, I also have noticed that it may take me several days before I can even get to the point of taking that one step.
This is the darndest condition.
The arms and brain are not working again. I could not even have cut up the plastic to put on the window.
That is why I sent the email for help.
Sheesh.
I could not have driven to the auto parts store but was at least barely functioning to get to it via the pwoer chair.
It is only a block away.
Happy Happy Happy. One obstacle overcome.
Thanks for you help.

Hi guys and gals, Sorry I missed this. I have a thread in general support offering free auto advice. I was an auto repair technician for over ten years and would love to help fellow lymies if I can since I can't physically work in a shop for the last couple of years.
Kam glad to hear your problem is solved. You wouldn't believe how many cars would come into the dealership for this problem and others like it, especially with all the electrical equipment on the newer cars.
Geneal, sounds like you might have a connection problem at the power window motor or a bad spot in the motors electrical winding. Not sure what kind of car you have but if I can help with more let me know.
Take care, Rich

Actually, the motor and regulator are bad.
This car was submerged under the Tchefuncte River when it
Came up (about 30 ft) one night and I woke to find it with water
Almost to the seats. I waded in chest high dirty water that
Had fire ants in it, snakes and God knows what else to get my children's car seats.
Priorities you know. Without those seats I couldn't take my children anywhere.
This am, my left front cv shaft gave way.
It is a salvage car. Just trying to make due until the house is built
Or I win the lottery.
I actually do know a lot about cars as I worked with my husband for a while
In his shop. He is a fully ASE certified Master Technician.
Incredibly good , but too tired at the end of the day to worry about
My heap of junk. Good news is we have another family vehicle.
A 15 passenger GM van. Now you should see me drive that!
Hugs,
Geneal

Man oh day I hope this isn't a new lyme symptom. My driver's side window is broken too. My husband pulled it up manually and stuffed a stick in it to keep it up. On those 12 degree mornings by the time I got to my destination I
was frozen. Next step is duct tape. Just till we budget the 2 to 3 hundred it'll take to fix it.

LOL Blackpowder..yep..let's blame this one on lyme too.
What surprised me is how easily I get stressed and overwhelmed with such small things like a window not rolling up.
I think it is the lack of ability to trouble shoot like I once was able to and not having the funds either...just kind of limping along too long.
On way home from dog park this am I noticed..clear as day..a button on the driver's side panel maked PW/lock.
So nice when the brain is seeing things clearly.
So frustrating when I am in such a fog I can't see clearly or think clearly.
Glad you were able to get the car seats out Geneal.
You are a trooper and I hope am patting yourself on your back with all you do and manage against the odds.
