I teach a class called Impact of Crime to juvenile offenders. My courses run for six weeks and each class is 1hr 45 min in length. We cover the following topics:

-Property Crime
-Homicide
-Sexual Assault
-Domestic Violence
-Child Abuse
-Dangers of Alcohol (in particular drinking and driving)
-Drug Use
-Hate Crime

the purpose of the program is make the offenders more accountable for their actions and to provide them insight into the TRUE costs of crime on individuals and society as a whole.

There are a lot of feature films out there that address crime in various ways. I'm looking for suggestions on films that will at LEAST have a 10-15 min worth of clips that I can use for my class. I want footage that really helps drive home the IMPACT of a crime on a victim(s). Certain material will obviously be too graphic or inappropriate for me to use but I have fairly liberal boundaries to work with.

I already have some films in mind and I'm in the process of acquiring them but I'd love to get a lot more ideas to add to my list. I know that if we can get the right film clips in place the class will be a good deal more impactful and will also help the students stay more interested/involved during the class periods.

thanks! [Smile]

I would recommend 2000 Academy Award winner "Traffic". I have never seen such a realistic movie about the drug trade.

It shows how drugs have affected all levels of society through heart-wrenching stories about very believable characters from small towns in Mexico to large US cities and upscale suburbs.

No one remains untouched. Such an incredible (and disturbing) film.

Also, as far as lessons in tolerance, you can't beat the classic "To Kill A Mockingbird".
