i had my bedroom decorated in a gold and red paisley print. way too active for a bedroom. big mistake, but i tolerated it for a couple of years, and hey, it was not that expensive...
so yesterday i said, heck with this, i've had enough, and gave everything away. now i'm left with a plain room and tan carpet.
i have a g. harvey print called "honor of the confederacy" which i'm putting over the bed. the colors are mostly green, some brown, and gold, blue sky.
problem is, i can't find a comforter that's plain. everything now is brown and blue or some kind of print. i need green and gold or tan. and the greens don't really work cause they don't match.
i've looked all over the net and i'm afraid to buy without seeing it.
i've returned two comforters and now i'm returning the drapes to walmart. gads, they'll hate me....
anybody got any ideas?

I think I would go with the tans and browns and use blue as an accent color. That is a very peaceful combination and a 'sleepy' blue is very calming.
I would never put red in a bedroom unless you are looking for some "action".

I like to shop at T.J.Max or Marshalls. Best thing to do is find out what day of the week they put out new stock. Then go and browse every week or so until you find what you're looking for. They sell brand name stuff for a fraction of what you would pay at a department store.
Have fun!

I'm trying to find a G. Harvey painting by that title and cannot find it. I thought maybe if I saw the print I would have a better idea of what kind of bedding you are looking for. http://www.christcenteredmall.com/stores/art/harvey/g_harvey.htmPosts: 212 | From Pennsylvania, USA | Registered: Jul 2009

i'm sorry, got the name of my print wrong. i'm collecting all his confederacy pictures.
it's called "siege of the south". shows a confederate soldier helping a lady in a covered wagon by a road.

First, let me say I'm no decorator...I give it my best try; sometimes it works/ sometimes it doesn't.
That is a beautiful painting. To me, the most relevant subjects of the painting are the female in the tan dress and the flag in the background. Therefore, if it were me, I would care less about the green grass and the blue sky and focus my colors on what I felt was more relevant; in this case, tan (beige, taupe, gold?) and red. If you like, you could repeat the green with some plants or vines.
Not knowing your style, I made some assumptions based on the painting, and your past comforter pattern.
If I don't show you something you like, I hope I've at least provided a link to a site where you do find something you like.

aha, great minds think alike.
i went with a tan plain comforter with gold accent shams. added a green and a greyish blue pillow to match the border.
drapes are the gold but i got a beautiful valance which is green with a small gold and red stripe in it.
my carpet is a kind of tan/gold and i have two tiffany lamps which are green/gold with a bit of dark reddish color.
it makes the room look much larger now and more modern. my furniture is mission/western. end tables have marble tops and all the pulls are that black iron.
took awhile and many returns, but i got it.
