Some of the sites I read now require newer versions of windows than my ole 95. How does a puter 'zero' disinstall my 95 and install newer version? And what do I buy? Then going to install netscape 7.2 or is their a better version?
Will it cure my missing plug in causeing big problems here? With pictures and e-mail.

Don,

I thought of your post this weekend when I was reading Kim Komado's weekly email.

She talked about the new XP version of windows.

I went back to find her email in order to send it to you, but couldn't find it.

The bottom line is that it looks like we both need to update to windows XP sooner or later.

It did have bugs but it looks like they have fixed it.

RE: How to update....I hope that it is a step by step process and will not be too much of a problem.

Don, you won't have to uninstall the old '95.

You should make a backup of anything important to you, though. Any data files (like Word documents, spreadsheets, etc); your saved email messages; your web browser's bookmark file; etc.

I have been using Windows95 for a long time.
Keeping up with the upgrade that Microsoft puts out, I am able to keep up with all the changes allows me to surf the web without any problems. If you click on the Windows Update in the start menu, it will take you to update page. Just follow the instruction and you should be fine.
The other way to go is to buy Windows XP upgrade edition, no need to deinstall W95. The street price should be about $99.00. Before you do that make sure that your computer can handle XP. I think the min requirement is a CPU of 250MHz and your RAM 256Megs.
In installing XP upgrade you do not have to backup any files, most of them will there after the installation is done. There might be some application that will not work in XP. When installing the upgrade, it will tell you what programs will not work.
I had some problems when I installed XP on some computers. You will get an error message that it cantnot find or install a certain file. if that happens get a CD cleaner, that should do the trick.
Installation is easy!
