I have the darnest thing happening gradually .

Sometimes my puter goes to sleep and will NOT wake up,,,5 hours late I come back and all is normal.

But another odd ball thing is the screen started flashing rapidly. Sometimes it quits on its own, sometimes NOT and you have to boot the whole thing.

Me thinks it has lyme and company!!!

If I get the problem with my computer quitting on its own I will let you know what helped Don.

But, my screen is not flashing rapidly before it up and shuts itself off so not sure it is related.

UH,,,its a newer Dell Insiporn using vista I spose.

Sorry isd thats not what you ask,,I am puter dumb.

It gets worse sometimes then better for awhile.

when its flashing sometimes it alternates digital,,analog in the upper left corner.

how do you take OFF the sleep mode? It sleeps way too much. and too fast,,,sometimes its merely a few seconds after using it.

But the flashing,,not even a full boot with power off everything fixes it when it gets in the flash mode. its like a rapid roll like tv's used to do.,but more like a video of BAD nature.

EVERYBODY I ask about this gets a strange blank stare on their face!!

Hi Don,
To me it sounds like either a bad cable connection between your computer and your monitor, or a problem with either the video card in the computer, or possibly a problem with the monitor. The first thing to do would be to make sure the cables are connected tightly.

Do you have either another computer you could hook your monitor to, or another monitor you can hook onto this computer? Doing either would help isolate which end the problem is on.

Hi Don,

My computer (also Dell Inspiron, but older and with XP, not Vista) used to refuse to turn on after a while. Turned out that it was overheating. When it goes to sleep and won't turn on next time, touch the computer's body - is it really hot?

I had to take it apart and clean the fan - it had been filled with dust, and wouldn't work properly! It's not a difficult procedure, perhaps you could get someone at a hardware store to help you out... if this is indeed the case.

So the Inspiron, far as I know, is a line of laptops. Do you hook yours up to anything, like an extra keyboard, monitor, dock station...?
