Chlorella - Sun Chlorella Benefits

When Dr. Bernard Jensen went to visit Charlie Smith, the oldest living American, Charlie was 135 years old. He was healthy, clear-minded and had a wonderful memory. Dr. Jensen's first question was ``What have you been eating for the last 30 years?'' Charlie's reply was canned sardines and crackers.

Dr. Jensen couldn't believe it. But after some investigation, he found out that canned sardines were the highest-known food in RNA. Eating foods high in RNA/DNA provides the material for the repair and production of human RNA/DNA. It is the breakdown of RNA and DNA in the cells that is believed to be a major factor in aging and in degenerative diseases.

Today, research from Japan has shown chlorella pyrenoidosa, a green single-cell fresh water alga, to be the highest-known food source in RNA. Chlorella is 20 times greater than sardines in RNA. (Sardines are 0.59% RNA, Chlorella is 10% RNA.)

There is also another amazing property of chlorella called the ``Chlorella Growth Factor'' (CGF). This is a property that has baffled scientist throughout the world. Scientists have not been able to explain why chlorella grows faster than any food crop known to man. It quadruples itself every 20 hours. When the CGF is consumed into the human body, it dramatically increases the rate of rebuilding and healing in tissues and it multiplies the growth rate of the lactobacillus (beneficial bacteria) in the bowel.

Chlorella seems to have everything necessary to rebuild health. We've only mentioned a few of the many benefits of chlorella. There are hundreds of scientific research papers documented in Japan on the health benefits of chlorella. Chlorella is the best-selling health food in Japan.

Chlorella Research Update
Improved separation method for highly purified lutein from chlorella powder using jet mill and flash column chromatography on silica gel.
J Agric Food Chem. 2004 Oct 6;52(20):6283-6.
We investigated an improved method for the separation of high-purified lutein from a commercially available spray-dried Chlorella powder using fine grinding by jet mill and flash column chromatography on a silica gel. Saponification and extraction of lutein were enhanced 2-fold in jet mill-treated Chlorella powder (mean particle size, 20 microm) as compared to untreated Chlorella powder (mean particle size, 67 microm).

Effects of chlorella on activities of protein tyrosine phosphatases, matrix metalloproteinases, caspases, cytokine release, B and T cell proliferations, and phorbol ester receptor binding.
J Med Food. 2004 Summer;7(2):146-52.
A Chlorella powder was screened using 52 in vitro assay systems for enzyme activity, receptor binding, cellular cytokine release, and B and T cell proliferation. The screening revealed a very potent inhibition of human protein tyrosine phosphatase activity of CD45 and PTP1C. Other inhibitory activities and their IC(50) values included inhibition of the human matrix metalloproteinases and the human peptidase caspases, as well as release of the cytokines interleukin (IL)-1, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, interferon-gamma, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha from human peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Chlorella also inhibited B cell proliferation in mouse splenocytes and T cell proliferation in mouse thymocytes. These results reveal potential pharmacological activities that, if confirmed by in vivo studies, might be exploited for the prevention or treatment of several serious pathologies, including inflammatory disease and cancer.

A hot water extract of Chlorella pyrenoidosa reduces body weight and serum lipids in ovariectomized rats.
Phytother Res. 2004 Feb;18(2):164-8.
The effects of a hot water extract of Chlorella pyrenoidosa, which contains chlorella growth factor, on the body weight, serum lipids, and the bone mass were evaluated using an ovariectomized rat as a model for postmenopausal bone loss. Rats were divided into four groups: sham-operated (Sham), Sham given the chlorella growth factor solution, ovariectomized (OVX), and OVX given the chlorella growth factor solution, respectively. Administration of the extract to OVX rats suppressed the body weight gain. After 7 weeks, the administration of the extract to the OVX group reduced increases in both serum total cholesterols and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterols. It also normalized the decrease of triglyceride level in the OVX group. The ovariectomy decreased the tibial bone mineral density (BMD) by 19%, and the administration of the extract to OVX rats did not inhibit this decrease. These results suggest that a dietary supplement of chlorella growth factor may be useful to control the body weight and improve lipid metabolism of menopausal women.

Antioxidant and anti-cataract effects of Chlorella on rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes.
J Nutr Sci Vitaminol (Tokyo). 2003 Oct;49(5):334-9.
The antioxidant activities of Chlorella in vitro and in vivo were investigated. Chlorella showed a strong antioxidant effect compared to various vegetables in a 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay. To evaluate the antioxidant and anti-cataract effects in vivo, a 7.3% Chlorella powder was fed to rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes for 11 wk. At the end of the experiment, Chlorella had decreased the blood glycated hemoglobin (hemoglobin A1c) and serum cholesterol levels significantly, however, it had not affected the serum glucose concentration. The serum lipid peroxide value (TBARS value) in the rats fed Chlorella was lower than that of the control rats. In the liver and kidney, Chlorella also reduced chemiluminescent intensities. In addition, it delayed the development of lens opacities. The lens lipid peroxide content of the rats fed Chlorella was lower than that of the control rats, however the differences were not significant. These results indicate that Chlorella has antioxidant activity and may be beneficial for the prevention of diabetic complications such as cataracts.

Accumulation of astaxanthin and lutein in Chlorella zofingiensis (Chlorophyta).
Appl Microbiol Biotechnol. 2004 Jun;64(6):848-54. Epub 2003 Dec 20.
When grown photoautotrophically, Chlorella zofingiensis strain CCAP 211/14 accumulates a significant amount of valuable carotenoids, namely astaxanthin and lutein, of increasing demand for use as feed additives in fish and poultry farming, as colorants in food, and in health care products.

Attenuating effect of chlorella supplementation on oxidative stress and NFkappaB activation in peritoneal macrophages and liver of C57BL/6 mice fed on an atherogenic diet.
Biosci Biotechnol Biochem. 2003 Oct;67(10):2083-90.
This study was designed to investigate whether chlorella supplementation may ameliorate oxidative stress and nuclear factor kappa B (NFkappaB) activation in peritoneal macrophages and liver of C57BL/6 mice fed on an atherogenic diet. These results suggest that chlorella supplementation may attenuate oxidative stress by reducing reactive oxygen production and increasing antioxidative processes, thus suppressing inflammatory mediator activation in peritoneal macrophages and liver.

Safety and immunoenhancing effect of a Chlorella-derived dietary supplement in healthy adults undergoing influenza vaccination: randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
CMAJ. 2003 Jul 22;169(2):111-7.
Enhancement of immune function has been claimed as a benefit of some natural health products, although few have been subjected to randomized clinical trials. We evaluated the effect of an oral dietary supplement derived from the edible microalga Chlorella pyrenoidosa on immune response after influenza vaccination. METHODS: We conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled community-based clinical trial in a convenience sample of 124 healthy adults at least 50 years of age randomly assigned to receive the study product (200 or 400 mg of a Chlorella-derived dietary supplement) or placebo. Participants took the study product or placebo once daily for 28 days. On day 21, we administered a single dose of a licensed trivalent, inactivated influenza vaccine. We obtained serum specimens to measure hemagglutination inhibition titres before and 7 and 21 days after vaccination. The primary immunological outcomes were the proportion of participants with a 4-fold or greater increase in antibodies and geometric mean antibody titres after vaccination; the proportion of participants reporting adverse events during therapy was the safety outcome. RESULTS: A total of 117 (94%) participants completed all aspects of the study. There were no differences in the proportions of recipients of 200 or 400 mg of the Chlorella -derived dietary supplement or placebo who achieved at least a 4-fold increase in antibodies (proportions for the 3 virus strains ranged from 17.9% to 28.2% for the 200-mg group, from 11.1% to 22% for the 400-mg group and from 19.0% to 21.4% for the placebo group. Reports of adverse events were similar for recipients of the supplement and placebo, except with regard to fatigue, which was reported more frequently by recipients of 200 mg of the supplement (18/41 or 44%) than by those who received 400 mg of the supplement or placebo. Recipients of 400 mg of the chlorella supplement who were 55 years of age or younger had significantly higher geometric mean antibody titres against influenza A/New Caledonia 21 days after vaccination and against B/Yamanashi 7 days after vaccination; the trends were nonsignificant for titres against A/Panama. We also observed similar increases for the proportions of subjects with a 2-fold or greater or a 4-fold or greater increase in antibodies. INTERPRETATION: The Chlorella -derived dietary supplement did not have any effect in increasing the antibody response to influenza vaccine in the overall study population, although there was an increase in antibody response among participants aged 50-55 years. Adverse events were similar among those receiving the supplement and the placebo.

A review of recent clinical trials of the nutritional supplement Chlorella pyrenoidosa in the treatment of fibromyalgia, hypertension, and ulcerative colitis.
Altern Ther Health Med. 2001 May-Jun;7(3):79-91.
Merchant RE, Andre CA.
It has been suggested that the consumption of natural "whole foods" rich in macronutrients has many healthful benefits for those who otherwise ingest a normal, nonvegetarian diet. One example is dietary supplements derived from Chlorella pyrenoidosa, a unicellular fresh water green alga rich in proteins, vitamins, and minerals. OBJECTIVE: To find evidence of the potential of chlorella dietary supplements to relieve signs and symptoms, improve quality of life, and normalize body functions in people with chronic illnesses, specifically fibromyalgia, hypertension, and ulcerative colitis. DESIGN: Double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trials. SETTING: Virginia Commonwealth University's Medical College of Virginia. Fifty-five subjects with fibromyalgia, 33 with hypertension, and 9 with ulcerative colitis. Subjects consumed 10 g of pure chlorella in tablet form and 100 mL of a liquid containing an extract of chlorella each day for 2 or 3 months. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: For fibromyalgia patients, assessments of pain and overall quality of life. For hypertensive patients, measurements of sitting diastolic blood pressure and serum lipid levels. For patients with ulcerative colitis, determination of state of disease using the Disease Activity Index. RESULTS: Daily dietary supplementation with chlorella may reduce high blood pressure, lower serum cholesterol levels, accelerate wound healing, and enhance immune functions. CONCLUSIONS: The potential of chlorella to relieve symptoms, improve quality of life, and normalize body functions in patients with fibromyalgia, hypertension, or ulcerative colitis suggests that larger, more comprehensive clinical trials of chlorella are warranted.

Nutritional supplementation with Chlorella pyrenoidosa for patients with fibromyalgia syndrome: a pilot study.
Phytother Res. 2000 May;14(3):167-73.
Fibromyalgia syndrome is a common, chronic musculoskeletal disorder of unknown aetiology. While available therapy is often disappointing, most patients can be helped with a combination of medication, exercise and maintenance of a regular sleep schedule. The objective of the present study was to determine if adding nutritional supplements derived from the unicellular green alga, Chlorella pyrenoidosa, produced any improvements in the clinical and functional status in patients with moderately severe symptoms of fibromyalgia syndrome. Eligible patients had 2+ palpable tenderness at 11 or more of 18 defined tender points and had a tender point index (TPI) of at least 22. Each day for 2 months, participants consumed two commercially available Chlorella-based products, 10 g of 'Sun Chlorella' tablets and 100 mL of liquid 'Wakasa Gold'. Any amelioration of symptoms was validated and quantified using semi-objective and subjective outcome measures systematically administered at clinic visits on days 0, 30 and 60 of the diet therapy. Eighteen of the 20 patients enrolled completed the 2 month trial. The average TPI for the group which at onset was 32, decreased to a mean of 25 after 2 months. This decrease was statistically significant (p = 0.01), representing a 22% decrease in pain intensity. Blood samples taken on each occasion indicated no significant alterations in serum chemistries, formed elements, and circulating lymphocyte subsets. Compilations of the results of patient interviews and self-assessment questionnaires revealed that seven patients felt that the dietary supplement had improved their fibromyalgia symptoms, while six thought they had experienced no change, and five believed the symptoms had worsened over the time of the trial. The results of this pilot study suggest that dietary Chlorella supplementation may help relieve the symptoms of fibromyalgia in some patients and that a larger, more comprehensive double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial in these patients is warranted. Research chlorella.

There are various chlorella products on the market, including Sun Chlorella. I am not familiar with the different brands of chlorella and thus do not know if Sun Chlorella is better than other brands.

Two New Age foods which contain high concentrations of whole food nutrients are the single-celled microalgae Chlorella and Spirulina. Chlorella and spirulina are accepted as functional foods, which are defined as products derived from natural sources, whose consumption is likely to benefit human health.

Where is the best place to get this?

Posted by klutzo (Member # 5701) on :

Chlorella and Spirulina can cause the runs, esp. if you do not ramp up the dosage very slowly, so your digestive system can get used to it. It took me two YEARS to be able to handle 5 grams of chlorella daily.

I buy a similar brand to Biopure here in Europe.

I also had lots of trouble with many brands of chlorella before. I thougth I was not going to digest it EVER.

Until I took about one hundred small pills (probably more) AT ONCE and realized my body could take it all. It was the first time I took this Biopure brand, so I can't say if it was because of wrong brand that I couldn't digest before, or because of the so-called 'stirring metals' effect (taking low dose = stirring metals and not binding = bad effects).

I take chlorella as one of my most important supplements for almost a year now (11 months). I re-took the other brands I had tried before when the Biopure finished (and I'm waiting for next box), and I still have the impression that Biopure is the best for tummy sensitivity. But it could be just an impression...

I never had any tummy pains with that brand, so I don't want to risk that, and I keep on going on this brand, as prices for organic stuff are similar elsewhere.

I give CGF to my small daughter almost daily (if I could afford more, I was going to give her daily) plus chlorella itself.

I get E-lyte Chlorella from my doctor (he sells it) It is expensive $43 for 333 pills. But I can't seem to find it cheaper anywhere else.

And it works good, never had any problems with it.

Is there a certain time of day to take it? Is this the one that can bind with the abx and remove from your system if taken too close togther?

Ruth -- my daughter used to get very nauseous with chlorella. We gave it to her in the mornings before leaving for school and she would get sick in the car soon after. We had to stop for awhile. With the recent information on acne, I re-introduced it because detoxing is such an important issue for her. She seems to be fine now.

Also... many years ago I began taking blue/green algae and felt this vague, low grade nauseous feeling for one month. I think there was a detoxing effect in my case.

I have heard that sometimes chlorella is difficult to digest for some people, harder on their stomachs. Or even a combination of that and a detoxing effect?

You might experiment with it a little. Try lower amounts etc. Or maybe it is not the right time for it, yet.

Kelmo -- I notice that a lot of people reported on an earlier thread that they take chlorella about 30 minutes before a meal... I don't know whether it could bind with abx. I don't think I have heard that, but someone else might know more. Could you be thinking of Questran/CSM?

*Here is the link for when to take chlorella:

It does look like some are taking it away from other things...

I did a search on it and found that people are taking mass quantities 30 minutes before a meal.

Gigi cautioned on one post that no one should EVER endeavor to use chlorella without the supervision of an experienced physician.

Well...that puts the fear...

Dr Sahelian-
"A. When people talk in such vague terms as 'toxins,' it makes me think that either they do not understand the complexity of the human body, or they are just scammers, trying to hype their product. I have not seen any studies where chlorella was found to remove 'toxins' from the body. How are these 'toxins' defined, anyway?"

Interesting.

Kelmo, did Gigi really say that?

I got ART measured for a few times (the first times I took more than 100 pills at once). But then the naturopath just let me guess what I needed.

Since then she never really measured chlorella again, and I keep taking it as I felt. Never less than 40 a day so far, exactly for a year now.

Everytime I got in trouble (I started recognizing my metal intoxication symptoms), I just upped the dose and the frequency. Each time, minimum 20 pills, sometimes minimum 30 up to 4-6 times a day.

Once I knew I could digest the thing (I had doubts before that first overdose the naturopath gave me), I only had to up the dosage when I felt something was wrong.

I always take the chorella vulgaris. Easier to digest than the pyrenoidosa.

I was super afraid of it in the beginning because I felt I couldn't stand the thing/ not able to digest it. For my case, I guess it was a problem that I took too little.

As for info on toxins, I don't know. I just know that chlorella saved me while I was doing metal detox (if I didn't take it in high loads, I would get jittery, with hypertension, arrhithmia, tummy aches, bloating, liver pain... and the list continues).

After the metal detox supplement, I would get all those symptoms (or a few) after an hour or so, and only chlorella would make me feel better in about 30 minutes (or a bit more) after intake. Call it 'placebo effect' or not, I don't care. It's been like this for a whole year!

I do 'believe' it binds metals then. As for other toxins, no idea.

Thanks for the helpful ideas. I do think the flu like symptoms were from the single dose of 15 tablets. And now I will approach using it with a little more respect for what it could do to me.

I wouldn't have tried chlorella, but it showed up on an 'energetic test' from the ND. He suggested 12/day of the Sun brand. I could't get that brand from my usual online supplement source, so I got what they carried. It's call Chlorenergy, manufactured by Chlorella Industry Co., Tokyo, Japan.

Rereading the box it says to take 15/day "all at once at a mealtime or may be taken in smaller quantities at separate mealtimes." It says it is Chlorella Vulgaris CK-5 strain. (Whatever that means!)

My question (and it may be a repeat) is:
If chlorella is doing some kind of 'binding', do I want to take it before a meal with no other supplements? In other words, will it 'inactivate' the other supplements if taken at the same time?

Ruth,

Taking chlorella used to give me flu-like symptoms also. I increased the dosage and added cilantro tincture (as per Dr. K's instructions, see Gigi's posts), and the symptoms stopped.

According to Dr. K., take the chlorella 30 minutes before a meal and at bedtime, and the cilantro 30 minutes after the chlorella or before eating. See his guidelines for dosages and other info.

I called the company that makes the chlorella I use (New Chapter) and was told that it doesn't interfere with the absorption of any other supplements or medications. However, I have read another post on this site that disagrees with this.

i just started some chlorella and cilantro as per gigi, after i used a homeopathic medicine called mercurius vivus.

it started some serious drainage from my head which i think is not only infection related, but that is started releasing metals.

the cilantro and chlorella are helping to clear that, from how i feel.

i make cilantro pesto and eat a few tbls's of it on toast.

it's yummy and a good, safe metal detox if you use the chlorella 1/2 hr before eating it.

Ruth, I also wonder if chlorella would bind to mineral supplements.

I dont' mix goat whey with it, but would like to (to my daughter), because it's easier to give to her at once in a day all supplements.

But I don't mix it because I'm afraid the effect of both going down the drain (minerals would get binded to the chlorella, and chlorella wouldn't bind the bad metals)... I just wonder...

Having said that, I take chlorella any time of the day. Usually better before meals, but I keep forgetting, so I take it with my herbs. I'm jsut careful with minerals, as I told you.

My stools are totally green now for a year, since I started 'eating' chlorella! My naturopath who follows Dr. K. closely said that if stools are green is OK, if not, I had to up the daily intake. At least, while killing these nasty critters.

Hope someone comes with info about chlorella binding to supplements and good minerals (?).

Ok.. I am just getting the "hang" of the Chlorella.. and now you say Cilantro too?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..

Isn't that an herb that smells quite strong? Is it in capsules.. or do you cook it or make pesto.. whatever that is? Any hints? MO?

Also.. I am using powdered Chlorella.. in a tub.. not pills as I already have too many of them to take. I mix mine in water with some Stevia.. some L-Glutamine- my liquid minerals.. which DARN.. I JUST remembered my doc saying NOT to take them both together!@$#% THAT was why I took everything BUT the Chlorella last time... DUH!!!

Ok.. I'll change that! But...

Someone mentioned chewing it? Is it in candy? or chocolate cake? That would be too happy, so I guess not. Is there another way to take it?

THANKS!

Thanks for all the ideas.

Mo, that plan to take the chlorella 1/2 hr before the pesto is GENIUS! I just made up a new batch of cilantro pesto today and I'll just have to try it.

I noticed someone else wondering about whether to chew them. The brand I bought (vastly inferior to BioPure I'm sure) doesn't chew well. When I took the first batch last week (all 15 at once) I tried to chew them and that did not work at all. They just got stuck in my teeth. They have some kind of coating, maybe for getting through the stomach intact or something. So maybe some are made to chew and others are not. Just guessing.

[hi] Hi Ms Tincup [Razz] Hope you're up to snuff SOON.

I'll slog some more thru GiGi's excellent posts....seems to me it was the Chlorella/Cilantro that would be stronger therefore no amalgams, oh I just don't remember!

No you do NOT have to have your analgram filling removed before taking chlorella, it is safe.

I also have posted more info on it here:

chlorella with amalgams, yes.

Cilantro with amalgams, not recommended.

Chewing chlorella: I guess people chew the pills. Not a good taste in my opinion. But some preffer like that. I prefer to ingest as pills with water.

I put the chlorella in powder in my daughter's milk, she loves it.

Cilantro that Gigi said was in tincture form. If fresh herb, it has to be cooked.

If in ticnture, has to be from fresh herb, you have to put the drops in hot water and sip. Better before bed time is best, 30 minutes after chlorella.

Chlorella binds, cilantro makes loose (it takes metals from cells).

I would be careful with cilantro, in the beginning. Hubby that doesn't suffer from lyme almost got a heart attack, tummy pains, only after sniffing an essential oil of cilantro (I was experimenting to rub on me [Frown] )

That night I had to give him about 50 chlorella to bind his loose metals (he only has 2 amalgams), I waited 30 minutes and watched him from far as I still smelled cilantro! He could finally sleep when chlorella binding effect started. I was about to drive him to ER.

I had to sleep in the other bedroom, or I would have triggered on him another metal release. [bonk]

Is that ever an amazing story about the cilantro essential oil! Do you use the cilantro oil yourself, Selma? Seems like it could turbo-charge the detox (which may or may not be desireable).

I hope that your husband is okay now. Once his amalgams come out, perhaps he can start on a metal detox.

This has become quite a rich, informative thread!

When I used to tolerate coconut milk better, I would blend a handful of blueberries, a banana, and a spoonful of chlorella together and freeze it slightly (1-2 hours). Tastes very much like ice cream! Pretty colors, too!

But coconut milk/oils can have anti-microbial effects, so take with caution, small amounts first.

I'm using the NDF-plus for detoxing. It's MUCH stronger than cilantro-alone in any form!! And without smell!! It has nanocoloidal cilantro and nanocoloidal chlorela, fulvic acid and lots more inside.

Thanks Claire and Maria for the chlorella recipies! Look yummy!!!

Oh yes... of course! You would have to divorce, or at least separate for a time! Not a good outcome.

Is that NDF plus product sold by Dr. K? Or something you get in Switzerland?

tc, i will find and post my cilantro pesto recipe below.

i hear/read warnings about the strength of cilantro when you have amalgams or high metal toxicity, i did not try cilantro until i had drawn metals out with gentle means for a while.

but, i still think eating it as pesto, taking chlorella 1/2 hr before, is gentler than tincture, tea, or juicing it, because the cilantro is eaten with food (a good pesto can go on toast, pasta, eggs, chicken, whatever)

i am finding that i'm addicted to this stuff right now, so my body wants it. i have a few tblsps pesto once or twice a day. i remember gigi saying
cilantro makes the GB flush metals, so that's why you want the chlorella there then, i take some spaced out in between too.

my pee is "dingy", sort of with a grey hue, like a shirt that gets dingy in the wash.

i am also taking gentle kidney cleanse herbs to be sure i'm flushing there as well.

cilantro pesto tastes different than basil, very good with lime for flavoring with the lemon as well.

this is a mish-mash of notes from my
cilantro pesto file, some of these pestos have allot of ingrediants, i usually make up my own recipe from these guides, a simple pesto with brazil rather than pine nuts and allot of garlic is my fave at the moment, just stuff what you want in the blender and blend, then keep a batch in a jar in the fridge with an olive oil film on top, and eat it with whatever you like:

Cilantro Pesto

1 clove of garlic
1/2 cup of almonds, cashews, or other nuts
1 cup packed fresh cilantro leaves
2 tablespoons lemon juice
6 tablespoons olive oil

In a blender or food processor, grind cilantro with 1 clove garlic, 1/2 cup (about 4 oz.) grated Parmesan cheese, 1/4 cup pine nuts, and 1 teaspoon grated lime peel until very finely chopped. With motor running, add 2 to 3 tablespoons olive oil or salad oil until mixture is the consistency of a thick paste. Add salt to taste.

Cilantro Chelation Pesto

4 cloves garlic

1/3 cup Brazil nuts (selenium source)
bullet

1/3 cup sunflower seeds (cysteine source)
bullet

1/3 cup pumpkin seeds (zinc, magnesium sources)
bullet

2 cups packed fresh cilantro (coriander, Chinese parsley) (Vitamin A source)
bullet

2/3 cup flaxseed oil
bullet

4 tablespoons lemon juice (Vitamin C source)
bullet

2 tsp. Dulse powder
bullet

Bragg's Liquid Aminos

Cilantro Pesto

1 clove garlic
1/2 cup almonds, cashews, or other nuts
1 cup packed fresh cilantro leaves (and smaller stems)
2 tablespoons lemon juice (a professional chef recommends just one Tbl of lemon juice)
6 tablespoons olive oil
Celtic Sea Salt to taste (www.healthfree.com is where you can order your salt)

Blend the cilantro and olive oil in a blender, add other ingredients to make a nice smooth paste, then go ahead and add some nuts and/or seeds: pistachio, cashews, almonds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, you name it. Have fun. Add it to your favorite pasta and serve warm or cold. Remember, cayenne pepper added to anything has a synergistic effect, making all the other ingredients work better. Simple fact.

And hey, let's hear your feedback. Angina pains diminishing? General overall health improving? Tell us! We'll pass it on.

A Yummy Mercury Detox Recipe

"Let your food be your medicine" said Hippocrates

I have been trying to come up with my own three week detox protocol and came across this. I didn't see this site first but it is amazing how similar this author's detox solution is to my own. I am still going to try my own detox protocol but if it doesn't work out the way I hope then I am going to try this recipe. I would still add taking Chlorella and lots of filtered water to this protocol. I am also using walnut oil instead of flaxseed oil. Walnut oil has many of the same properties as flaxseed oil but I like what I have read about walnuts as brainfood. It is so interesting that this recipe mentions Brazillian Nuts and lemon juice. I think maybe we are on to something.

Cilantro Pesto Said
to Remove Heavy Metals

Author Unknown

Heavy metal poisoning is rampant. It is a major cause of hormonal imbalances, cancer, thyroid problems, neurological disturbances, learning problems, depression, food allergies, parasites, etc. etc. This is a great recipe that is not only easy to make but also really yummy, and it tells you how to remove heavy metals from the body!

Cilantro is truly a healing food. One friend suffering from high blood pressure due to mercury poisoning had her blood pressure return to normal after eating two teaspoons of this pesto daily for only a week. So whether you need to detoxify heavy metals from your body or just wish to use it as a preventative measure, 2 teaspoons a day is all you need to take. This pesto has now become a regular in my diet. Enjoy!

*note [I would take chlorella 30 minutes before I ate this recipe to help the body move the mercury and other heavy metals out of the body.]

* This might be the perfect recipe for that child who refuses to eat GOOD foods.

Cilantro Chelation Pesto

4 cloves garlic
1/3 cup Brazil nuts (selenium)*[one of the best sources]
1/3 cup sunflower seeds (cysteine)
1/3 cup pumpkin seeds (zinc, magnesium)
2 cups packed fresh cilantro (coriander, Chinese parsley) (vitamin A)
2/3 cup flaxseed oil[*I am going to use Walnut Oil]
4 tablespoons lemon juice (vitamin C)
2 tsp dulse powder
Sea salt to taste

Process the cilantro and flaxseed oil in a blender until the coriander is chopped. Add the garlic, nuts and seeds, dulse and lemon juice and mix until the mixture is finely blended into a paste. Add a pinch to sea salt to taste and blend again. Store in dark glass jars if possible. It freezes well, so purchase cilantro in season and fill enough jars to last through the year.

Cilantro has been proven to chelate toxic metals from our bodies in a relatively short period of time. Combined with the benefits of the other ingredients, this recipe is a powerful tissue cleanser.

Two teaspoons of this pesto daily for three weeks is purportedly enough to increase the urinary excretion of mercury, lead and aluminum, thus effectively removing these toxic metals from our bodies. We can consider doing this cleanse for three weeks at least once a year. The pesto is delicious on toast, baked potatoes, and pasta.
* [drinking several glasses of water each day will also help the body remove the metals this recipe will draw into the bloodstream.]

Just to clarify a couple of things:

I never said you had to take chlorella under doctor's supervision.

You take it per instructions, 30 min before meals, to be most effective.

If it feels good, okay. If it doesn't you probably have not taken enough. And are mobilizing more toxins with it than the amount can cover to take it all the way out. So more is better, unless you just cannot tolerate it.

Read Dr. K.'s Neurotoxin Removal Protocol on his website, www.neuraltherapy.com (articles).

Please note that raw Cilantro does not work for heavy metal detox. It is the substance that is released out of the herb when it is heated that is effective for that purpose. You can certainly toss a handfull into hot soup and get the benefit. The best is buying a bottle of the tincture, so that you have it available - made
whenever you have the need. It should be made only from organic cilantro - Dragon River is one, Biopure is another one. Transdermal application of tincture is also very beneficial.
You may read some of my posts where to apply it.

No, you do not need a doctor to take Chlorella! Whoever posted that I said so. My grandchildren eat chlorella like candy and are very healthy and well well doing just that. Chlorella babies are healthy babies, develop beautiful teeth and dental arches. Mothers who breastfeed taking chlorella, detox their milk with it -- the milk actually takes on a green color and is no longer toxic. Often mother's milk is so toxic that it would require permission to dump it in a landfill! Tested before and after in lab.

Take care.

We have used cilantro tincture for almost ten years. Tincture - the aroma disappears very quickly when rubbing in. I have never heard of Cilantro oil for the purposes we are talking about.

Are you sure, Selma, you are not confusing this with some of the rizoles (Ozonated Ools). Yes, they have a bit of an order, but barely.

It is the essential oils, such as Farah talks about, that I would not be unable to use, especially not during the time when my autonomics were so out of balance that I could smell everything from miles away.

Cilantro tincture does not smell any "louder" than salsa. And the odor disappears as if you were to rub a leave of parsley into your ankle.
Dissipates very quickly.

Take care.

Heather,

"can i take chlorella without also taking cilantro? or do i need something extra to help mobilize the metals?"

Chlorella only mobilizes and moves metals from extracellular spaces, not from intracellular ones.

Many of the many deposits are intracellularly and you will need other agents to mobilize them, such as DMPS, DMSA, Cal EDTA, etc. Cilantro crosses the blood brain barrier and can help detox the brain. Chlorella - no.

Work the body for detox of metals first - all the areas, except the brain. Chlorella and Cilantro work, Destroxin, etc. Only after the extracellular spaces, joints, collagen, extracellular spaces are unloaded, only then use agents that are known to move the toxins out of the brain. If you don't clear the roads first, you could have a lot of misery, because the toxins coming down from the brain have no way to go if all the other avenues are still clogged up with toxins.

That's why it is important to do it with the guidance of a practitioner who knows how through a lot of experience.

In other words, when fillings gone, try to eliminate further toxin uptake, use chlorella for several months. You cannot clear a brainfog as long as the rest of the body is still too loaded.

Take care.

P.S. the purity of the chlorella is super/most important. We know that Biopure analyze their chlorella very frequently. I cannot guarantee that of other brands. You will have to contact them.

I do know that in Asia, chlorella is grown by little and big farmers; they take it to a collective from where it is then sold to the highest bidder. Who knows how the plant was grown, under which conditions???? Biopure comes from one source, is carefully treated to break the cell wall, without destroying important substances of the plant. Not all chlorella is equal.

Take care.

Gigi, I don't know if cilantro essential oil detoxifies metals, but whatever it did to my husband, it was an extreme reaction. I thought he was going to have a heart attack, he had strong tummy aches, total jitterness etc. I found him shaking and grumbling in bed. I thought I needed to take him to emergency.

He could only sleep after he accepted taking loads of chlorella I offered him.

It took about 30-40 minutes for him to stop grumbling, exactly the time to lower my own metal intoxication symptoms after chlorella. Then he fell asleep. Now he fears the oil.

Remember that essential oils are done with heating the herbs, so I believe it could be the reason the oil acted as a metal detoxifier only because he sniffed it!

It was essential oil of cilantro. Not a rizol. It smells extreme (I love its smell though). The rubbing of the oil made me feel very relaxed, but I was on NDF already when I tested it, taking loads of chlorella for months.

Cilantro tincture smells almost nothing. It's very mild. Like Gigi said, once rubbed, no smell anymore.

I do wonder if this essential oil is not even more powerful in rubbing than tincture. But I can't continue testing it, because as I said before, I need to divorce first! [Big Grin]

I agree 100% with Gigi to detox pathways first. You'll have wonderful results detoxifing only with chlorella for the first months, only after adding other intracellular detoxifiers.

Also agree with quality. I tried many chlorella, many brands, most expensive said 'organic' brands. Same price as biopure, in the end, I stayed with biopure (I mean, I buy here at the INK, similar quality to biopure, I imagine).

If you ask me the herb I took more since I caught lyme, that's chlorella. I took and still take a lot. I was total chicken to take it in the beginning due to bad reaction to it, I thought I couldn't digest it, etc etc.

In the end, it turned to be my best friend! But I needed loads since start. Little made no difference or maybe, made me worse...

My husband is also on lots of chlorella a day. He's got no lyme, but feels better with it.

It's the herb number one for me to milden herxes, still today. Even after more than a year on it.

I now believe I was/ am totally metal toxic.

Some people dont' believe chlorella can bind well to metals. I guess it's true, as if you take little of it, you'll feel more stirring symptoms than cleansing.

But taking loads was what truly helped me. I believe, chlorella helps me to go often to the loo, and that also helps detoxifying. But that's only my feeling, I never stopped chlorella to check if my bowel movements change. Sorry if this is gross...

Buhner also wrote me once (email) saying he finds adding chlorella to his protocol a great idea. He didn't speak about metal detoxing though, just about chlorella itself.

Well, gotta go to bed.
Selma

Wow I can't get over this group.....
Everyone really has it together.

Because of severe Lyme brain would someone please tell me how to start taking the chlorella. I saved the page from Biopure but did not know how to order it or how to START to take it.
I cannot grasp reading all the answers and get confused. Also.....do you add Cilantro to the mix after the Chlorella....and if you can buy the herb at the store how much can we take.....

Sorry , I get so wrapped up , but cannot comprehend tons of info.

Can someone just give me a quick how to start session ?????

Sign me out......"loser" [Razz]

#1 - don't call yourself a loser - you are a winner by asking. I have learned that the body follows the brain - think "winning" and you will win.

(that's one reason I do not understand why people use the word Lyme in their posting alias. You are "nailing" Lyme into your brain every time you call yourself by that name)

Just buy youself some quality chlorella tablets. Buy a small amount until you know you can handle them. Most people can if they learn to take the right amount at the right time. Increase to more as you become comfortable with them. If you are very toxic, it's better to take more than less.
Why? Chlorella stirs up toxins and you may be stirring up more than 1 or two chlorella can absorb. So it helps to take more. (I used to take a little handful 4 times a day)

If you want to, right before eating, you could take some cilantro tincture, a couple of drops: It will help to increase bile and thus digestion.

Other than that, you can use cilantro tincture any time. Raw cilantro does not work. Unless you toss a handful of fresh cilantro into a hot soup thereby releasing the active ingredient of the cilantro.

You can also make a cup of tea before going to bed by adding up to 10 drops (start with l drop)
into hot water. You can use cilantro (a few drops) by rubbing it into problem areas, i.e. around the liver. Problems above the waist, rub a few drops into the wrists. Problems below the waist, rub a few drops at the ankles.

Hope this helps.

Take care.

Heiwalove,

"which chlorella?"

I have always been perfectly happy with the Chlorella pyrenoidosa tablets.

The chlorella in powder form is wonderful to make smoothies for children. I always had more of a mess around me and remaining in the jar........ with the powder. So I used it only once.

The other forms are more concentrated forms and therefore more expensive. Read my post (Dr.K's instruction/explanation to his patients) on Chlorella re pyrenoidosa vs. vulgaris if you think you can't tolerate it. Most the time people should take more rather than less because their toxin load is not absorbed by just a few tablets.

Also read Neurotoxin Elimination Protocol on
www.neuraltherapy.com/articles, the section where Dr. K. explains Chlorella in more detail.

Take care.

Would it be worth it for me to take Chlorella if I only plan to take two a day? I won't be taking a handfull of the stuff, and I'm getting the impression you have to take a ton of pills for it to do anything.

LENTIL SOUP WITH CILANTRO (LOTS OF IT)

I would make a few changes, using Baby French Lentils instead of brown lentils - and SEA salt. And, who has energy to puree? But, if you do, a stainless steel hand-held blender is best. This does not have to be pureed, though.

I'd also add carrots for my eyes.

The New York Times, June 18, 2009, RECIPES FOR HEALTH

LENTIL SOUP WITH CILANTRO (LOTS OF IT) --By Martha Rose Shulman

This easy lentil soup is seasoned with cumin and an entire bunch of chopped cilantro, stirred in just before serving.

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 1/4 teaspoons cumin seeds, lightly toasted and ground
Pinch of cayenne

1/2 pound brown lentils (about 1 1/8 cups), picked over and rinsed

1 small onion, cut in half

1 bay leaf

1 1/2 quarts water

Salt, preferably kosher salt, to taste

Freshly ground pepper

1 cup chopped cilantro (from 1 large bunch)

Plain low-fat yogurt for garnish

1. Heat the oil in a large, heavy soup pot over medium heat, and add the garlic. Stir until fragrant, about a minute, and stir in the cumin and cayenne. Add the lentils, onion, bay leaf, water and salt. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer 40 minutes, until the lentils are tender and the broth aromatic. Add pepper, taste and adjust salt. Remove the halved onion and the bay leaf.

2. Coarsely puree the soup in an immersion blender or food mill. Alternatively, puree half the soup in blender, 1 1/2 cups at time, being careful to cover the top of the blender with a towel to avoid hot splashes, then stir back into the soup. Heat through.

3. Chop the cilantro, discarding the stems. Stir into the soup just before serving. Taste, adjust seasoning and serve, topping each bowl with a dollop of yogurt.

Yield: Serves four.

Advance preparation: The soup can be made through step 2 up to a day ahead of time. You may need to thin it out with a little water.

Frm Dr. K's site on the difference of Chlorella types: Vulgaris and Pyrenoidosa

* It's very important to know that once a toxin has bound to Chlorella it won't take off any more, under no circumstances.

Every time Chlorella chelates toxins in the intestinal tract, the Chlorella/toxin-complex leaves the body unbroken by way of the faeces.

* For detoxification purposes, it is recommended to take Chlorella on an empty stomach

* Generally there are two different strains of Chlorella available on the market: Ch. Pyrenoidosa and Ch. Vulgaris. They certainly differ in a few details of fact, but to cut a long story short, the main points are:

Only Ch. Pyrenoidosa possesses Sporopollein and normally has a higher content of B12.

Ch. Vulgaris balances this disadvantage having a slightly better digestibility (softer cell wall) and on average, a higher chlorophyll and C.V.E. content.

Thanks karenl & Keebler... Well, hello again, l'parfait, I thought this might be you!

Thanks for bumping up the info. I have lots of chlorella I haven't used yet. I unknowingly poisoned myself with cilantro, so won't be using any of that whatsoever until well after AI and getting the chlorella entrenched a few months.

Since chlorella hurts my stomach, I used the digestive enzymes with cellulose and that solves a lot of the problem.

Thanks again!

Does chlorella have copper?
I cannot metabolize copper at all and I am afraid chlorella could have copper.
Which other binders have zero copper? Charcoal?

I got the answer already from another forum.
It is 0.08 mg / 100g.
But I am still interested in other binders like
bentonite clay?
