Hi I called Dr J Wednesday before thanksgiving to make appt (was for 2/11) just came back from it Monday night! (Loved the man- he has a great sense of humor!)Yea for us...finally some luck on our side.
Anyway I have some questions for people who have taken their children there. My daughter was dx'd 5/10 and is being treated be my llmd. We decided to have Dr. J come in with her tx because she has other issues and he's the expert.
Anyway I came home with 2 more scripts and one of them is doxy. She is 6 1/2 and that's what scares me. I just p/u the script and see all the warnings so now I'm scared to start it.
Anyone else have their kids on it that young?? It's for her erlichia I am assuming and it's only for 14 days but none the less, I'm still worried. I don't want to permanently damage her teeth if there's other options.
Any advice for me? I don't want to second guess his treatment plan, I just would like reassurance if anyone can offer it!
Thanks! Peyjad

We were with Dr. J for 2 years and he helped us a lot. My kids did develop some gut issues so we then moved on to more alternative treatments and stopped abx.
You are not wrong at all to second guess a treatment plan and I did many times with Dr. J. My gut was right more often than not. He was not bothered by this....I believe that rifampin can kill ehrlichia as well...I have read this from other LLMD's but I don't think Dr. J agrees with this. You might ask him about trying it though. I would do that before doxy in a young child.
I think you are wise to be wary of giving doxy to a 6 year old. I would do your research. I have been in this lyme nightmare for 4 years now and have actually found that ehrlichia is easiest to get rid of, particularly with just herbs. Enula from nutramedix worked for us. My 3 young children had it. If it were me, I would ask Dr. J if you could try Enula for 3 months to see if the titers go down. He is familiar with this herb and I know he uses it, but he may not know that it can kill ehrlichia. It has the added benefit of helping with babesia in some cases.

I don't have kids, but.... Maybe call his office and ask to speak with him so you can talk it through a bit. I'm sure they won't mind.
Good luck! Tammy

Thx tickbattler and Tammy for responding so fast!
My daughter can't do the rifampin, it made her seizures really act up and get more intense/severe. ( we dont know it these are Lyme related or not, like I said in first post- she has other issues)
I will look into the enula-and discuss my fears with him...thx for the advice!
