Hi -- Anyone have a recipe for unclogging pressurized ears?
I got a sore throat, then a sinus infection, and now my ears are clogged and my throat is sore again!
I have to fly on an airplane cross-country next Wednesday and I'm not sure what to do!
So far, Neti-Pot, showers, warm pacs and rebounding while chewing gum have not helped.
Any advice?

Try taking sudafed, mucinex, and ibuprofen together. Drink lots of water. It might take a few days before your symptoms go away.

Thanks, Sammy, but I'm allergic to mucinex and sudafed gives me heart palpatations. Ibuprofen, I can handle! i've been taking Benedryl at night.

Bummer, that combo usually works for me. You might need to try taking the Benadryl 3x per day or switch to a non-drowsy 24hr antihistamine like Claritin or Zyrtec.
If those things don't help you could try Afrin nasal spray. That would be my last resort try. Don't use the Afrin more than 3days in a row or else you could get rebound sinus congestion.
Flying with sinus and ear problems is a miserable experience. At least you have about a week to try to get things cleared up.

Vitamin C in large doses may help eventually.
Also, check with your pharmacist first to make sure no drug interactions exist with Fenugreek seed, but I use Fenugreek seed to help thin out mucus secretions. It helps to decongest my sinuses as long as I take enough of it at a time.
Take care,

Serrapeptase will help.
Reduce the inflammation, thin the mucus, let everything drain and clear up.
Quote: Chronic sinusitis...In the double blind studies, they realized a 97.3% success rate in the serrapeptase group as compared to a 21.9% in the placebo group.

I have had consistently clogged ears for about 6 years now. they have only gotten worse. Now my ear rings loudly and uncontrollably from time to time. I have balance issues. Nothing has helped. I have said many times that if I could get rid of my ear problems, the Lyme would seem almost gone.

I have to use Afrin or Dristan nasal spray, I get the wal-mart brand. Use for three days , then the Ocean saline rinse with a drop of grapefruit seed extract added to it. You can us this everyday, forever...It helps with sinus issues too..
I can't use the decongestant that is in sudafed, it starts with a P... but the decongestant in Afrin and Dristan starts with an O... sorry I can't spell those long names.
A pharmacist told me to do this and it worked. I was getting off balance and vertigo like symptoms..
Not sure it will work for you but it did help me, Don't use the decongestant more than three days. Oh, it didn't cause the heart palps etc. that I got when I tired sudafed..
Its a miserable feeling, so good luck..

One other thing to check for -- you may have a buildup of wax in your ears. Hubby has to have his professionally cleaned out every 2 or 3 years. If it is caught before it gets impacted then hydrogen peroxide mixed with rub alcohol (half of each) can be dripped in the ear. It will foam and loosen up the wax.

This is what worked for my sinus problems using a neti pot wash with these ingredients:
8 oz water 1/2 tsp colloidal silver 1/2 tsp salt 1 tsp xylitol 1-2 drops tea tree essential oil
C. silver kills all one-celled microorganisms that it touches. Salt shrinks the tissues, fights infection and prevents the solution from burning nasal passages. Tea tree oil (or eucalyptus, oregano or thyme essential oils) are all anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral. Xylitol is so slippery it prevents microbes from attaching to mucus lining or a cell membrane.

Good idea Bea. If you think you might have wax in your ears cleaning them out will help.
Another way you can do it is get a suction bulb (sometimes called baby nasal aspirator). You can buy these at walmart and such for just a few dollars. Put some hydrogen peroxide in a bowl and mix with warm water. Suck the water solution up with the bulb, squirt it into your ear, then suction it out. Repeat until you get out all the wax.
It should feel good.
