I have read that lyme can cause dementia alot
So what exactly is dementia from? no one seems to have any idea. its just not even treatable, the brain just stops functioning right for no reason?
Do you think dementia is nothing more than undiagnosed/untreated TBI?
how many of people with dementia do you think really just have lyme and cos?
My boyfriends grandma has dementia BAD. I feel so bad for her. she doesnt even know who her own family is and cant even talk

Alzheimers has been theorized to be linked with Lyme. Lyme attacks the brain, the spirochetes physically get in there. I cannot give a good scientific explanation, but this link could maybe shed some light.

I didn't know he died.
My mother in law just got diagnosed with Alzheimers and of course I don't think her daughters(that take care of her) would listen if I told them it could be an infection. Makes me sad.

I think he did die of Alzheimer's, how tragically ironic. I wonder if it was actually Lyme, contracted through his research?
My 65 year old father has been DX'd with Alzheimer's, but I wonder if it is Lyme. He has many SX as does my mother.
On the other hand, I wonder if I am thinking everybody has Lyme? The more I research it, the more people I think have it.

I'm not even thinking that Alzheimers has to be lyme, but maybe just some type of infection. There are some clinical trials going on where they are treating Alzheimers with antibiotics with good results. Of course Dr M's research pointed to lyme being the cause of Alzheimers in 7 out of 10 brain samples.

I had a "false positive" result from a lyme disease test about 20 years ago. Since then, I have been diagnosed with RA, Fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel, neuritis, and tendonitis....Help. I am in so much pain. I recently rescheduled with my Dr. to discuss alternative pain management and a re-test for Lyme Disease.

Tama - oh my goodness, it's so sad to read that! There's only a 1-3% chance of getting a false positive using the two-tiered testing, so most likely you were a "true positive". You can't trust any "regular" doctors concerning what they say about Lyme disease.
I highly suggest you start your own threads. Make one in the "doctor's requests" forum asking for a LLMD in your area (include the state name in the thread title), and make another one in the "Medical questions" forum asking for opinions on your situation. You'll get a lot more help and a lot more answers that way.

tama, get igenex testing. it's pretty much the only one to trust. your doc and send off for it. ain't cheap tho, i had to pay 400 out of pocket and insurance would not reimburse.

About dementia, I have worried I had it with this disease. I couldn't remember practically anything and my thinking was sluggish and confused. It was alarming. After treating babesia (and Bb and bart) my mind is clearer.
Some people with alzheimers do have lyme. They have found the spirrochetes in their brains after death (in an autopsy). But there are probably other reason people get dementia beside lyme. My mother had it and it wasn't just sad seeing her decline because I could relate to her fear of what was happening. It was terrifying.

Dementia is a term that describes a collection of symptoms that include decreased intellectual functioning that interferes with normal life functions and is usually used to describe people who have two or more major life functions impaired or lost such as memory, language, perception, judgment or reasoning; they may lose emotional and behavioral control, develop personality changes and have problem solving abilities reduced or lost.
There are about 50 diseases or causes of dementia, Alzheimer's is just the one most known.
Syphilis is a spirochetal bacteria very similar to Lyme BB. If it can cause dementia in the late stage, why couldn't Lyme?

Dr. M didn't die, as far as I know! But he does have Alzheimer's. He worked with the brains and the spiro's unproctected, at least that's how he was in Under Our Skin.
Dr. B, who discovered the Lyme spirochete, now has Parkinson's---same deal---he was exposed. In fact an infected rabbit he was working on peed into his eye!!
I think many, many cases of dementia are caused by LD and other infections, I'm sure.
