Does anyone else suffer with bladder and vaginal pain?

I have been diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis. The pain keeps me awake at night.

What is the most effective treatment when Lyme is also involved?

I take enablex when it is flaring. I have to hope in and out of the tub when it is flaring in order to go to the bathroom.

I suffer with IC, It is horrible -

I know diet plays a big part. There is an RX, but it takes up to six months to work.

Have you asked your doc who diagnosed you what he/she recommends for pain?

I have put a warm heating pad on before and that helps.

I did a search on this site for IC or
Interstitial Cystitis and here is just one.

Try searching again and check for further helps.

I had the problem for a long time until I figured out that I have a histamine intolerance. If I eat/drink anything high in histamine things will get bad. Histamine intolerance is rather complex (as is the list of foods/ingredients to avoid), but basically my gut does not make enough DAO (diamine oxidase), the enzyme that brakes up the histamine from the food in the intestines. There are some meds that contribute to the problem, like Lariam, Augmentin, Chloroquin and other DAO inhibitors. For me it began with just vaginal burning, which went on to include the bladder, and in the end diarrhea and itchy skin all over. Now I am on a restricted diet, take a DAO supplement before I eat, take Singulair at night. A while back I added Gastrochrom (a medication) and after I read that it helps with IC and vaginal discomfort I added Sea Buckthorn oil (Omega 7 fatty acid). Of all of this I think most important is diet. If your bladder pain is severe give the Buckthorn a (longer) try, it has other health benefits as well. The name of the DAO supplement is Histozyme (in Europe Daosin).
If you need help regarding the diet let me know.
The easiest way to find out is to try.

I have had IC for about 10 years. Food plays a big part in my pain levels. Their is so much good information out there on the ic network. Check it out.

Hopefully you will be relief from it by treating for lyme. I know that Lymtoo did.

IC used to keep me awake too. I have it 95% resolved by:

1. Taking 2 Prelief tablets with every meal that includes a high acid food or drink. You can find a list of these foods online. Prelief is OTC in any drugstore. It also helps heartburn without the risks of blocking stomach acid, since it just takes the acid out of the food or drink. With Prelief, I can eat whatever I want.

2. Taking a combo supplement of Hyaluronic acid/chondroitin/BioCollagen II twice daily.(I get this from vitacost.com). This combo is often infused into the bladder every 6 months to treat IC, which sounded painful and expensive. I hypothesized it should work orally, and it did, at least for me. it took a month to work, but then there was a sudden dramatic improvement. It also cleared up my dry, cracked skin as a side benefit.

3. Keeping a plant spray mister full of water in each bathroom and spray washing all urine off immediately after going, before the acids can burn me. Also, drink plenty of water to keep urine diluted.

Klutzo, what is the name of your supplement? Vitacost is also where I stumbled across the Omega 7 use in context with IC and vag. discomfort (even dryness). Omega 7 is beneficial for all skin problems, but especially mucous membranes. My problems are mostly gone as well. What I forgot to mention in my first post: some of us are "under methylators" and tolerate the methylated versions of some supplements better; like Meth B 12, or Metafolin instead of folic acid. Also, for me things got even better when I finally addressed the adrenal fatigue.

Kathi,
The supplement just says Hyaluronic acid on the front, though it has the other ingredients in it and it is the Vitacost House Brand. The item # is: NSI3002115. the cost seems a bit high until you realize it is for a 3 month supply.

I use L-glutamine powder for my mucous membranes, esp. since I have a precancer in my stomach and a strong family history of it. I make sure to keep the amt. below the danger level for conversion to glutamate, and it has helped my gut pain immensely, eliminating decades of chronic gastritis. My GI doc even recommended it, and he is very conventional.

I had not heard of Omega 7 but will check it out, thanks.
