i have been on cipro for bartonella for about 3 - 4 weeks, and all week i have had the WORST anxiety, can't stop crying, totally wound up and reactionary. is this a herx or a cipro side effect? what is the best way to detox from a neuro herx? i don't know how much more of this i can take, i am so so so depressed.

oh man cipro drove me crazy. you do know it's in the quinlone family like levaquin. that's why i had to stop it.

started getting severe leg and muscle pain. so be careful.

but its well worth it if you can tolerate it.

take plenty of magnesium with it and lots of water.

its a herx, hon, so hang in there.

could last for days or even weeks. some are here herxed for a long time.

but with plenty of water it will ease. just sleep, rest, and take it easy.

i took one abx and i was literally walking the floor bouncing off the walls, driving everyone out of their mind. i was crying, shaking, just having a fit. it passed but man, it was tough until it did.

THAT is DANGEROUS! Call your doctor!! I cannot take quinolones because some of them do that to me.

How do I know if it's from a herx or the medicine though? I've had palpitations / racing problems before, but it's just been much worse lately..

I also felt horrible on cipro given to me for an ear infection. I couldn't breath, skin crawling, aches, heart palps. Now that I have been diagnosed wirh LD i know better. my doctor says he never prescribes any quinalones because he has seen terrible permanent side effects. I will never take these.
Find a holistic doctor!

It's not so bad...just slight but constant chest discomfort / air hunger, and then a racing heart / palpitations.

Considering what I had to endure after having been floxed with Levaquin I would not dare to call an adverse reaction from quinolones a herx.

not so sure it's definitely a Herx either -- a friend of mine who does not have Lyme had similiar terrible anxiety when on levaquin (in same family as cipro).

I'm just curious because I had the same emotional problems when I was on Rifampin - had to discontinue. So maybe a herx. Wish it were easier to tell.

I would be careful with this family of abx. My LLMD does not prescribe them either.

Took L-arginine to subdue the horrible reaction...nothing else helped.

Sounds like a bart herx to me. I'd been on cipro quite a while (250 twice a day) but my new LLMD doubled the dose. Huge emotional, neurologic herx. It took about three weeks to pass, and I've felt far better - and could think much more clearly - since. But it was hell for a while.

If you have an allergic reaction, tendon issues, or feel suicidal by all means stop. Otherwise try to stick with it for another few weeks.
