Does anyone know of any solutions to insomnia?
I am currently cycling through it, and I have been unable to sleep until 2am for the past two weeks. Generally, I am the complete opposite. I am used to taking two naps a day and sleeping soundly at night--could very well sleep 24 hours a day.
Now, I can't sleep at night, and that is without a nap and waking up early in the morning. I am tired, but I am trying to have myself as tired as possible for night time.
I have tried taking more liquid benadryl, and I have also tried ZzzQuil. I take them around 10pm, and I am still wired at 1am.
I miss sleeping because it is my only escape from discomfort and all things Lyme. I also feel worse being sleep deprived.
I am guessing my adrenal glands are off, by Adrenogen wires me, and I don't want to gamble with more sleep problems.
Seeing a new LLMD (Dr. H NY) in one week, though!

My Homeopath (also a nurse) recommended a product called 'Kavinace' and I take it with Gaia Herbs Sound Sleep formula. After weeks of insomnia this mixture is what has worked for me - allows me to sleep through the night and doesn't make me groggy the next morning.

Thanks TwistedbyLyme, I have heard about Kavinance. Isn't the label for that for anxiety/depression?
Does anyone know what coinfection or imbalance causes insomnia?

Kavinance contains taurine, phenibut (a GABA byproduct), and Vitamin B6.
It should help with sleep in addition to anxiety.

That's great that you're going to see Dr. H next week. You'll have to keep us posted on what he does for this.
Insomnia was horrible for me early on and fixing it was a process. Repairing the adrenals was a critical part of it. Have you read Wilson's book on this? It was very helpful but I forget the title right now, sorry.
I also take Flexeril and Zyrtec at night. Flexeril is a muscle relaxer so it helps with the aches and pains and also makes you drowsy. My LLMD said he uses it because you get two things out of one med.
Sleep has gotten a lot better but there are times when the insomnia creeps back and then I know I have to back off on something - back when I was taking Adrenal desiccated, I had to lower the dose, currently am playing around with my thyroid meds because I was feeling a little too wired.

I feel like I have become immune to sleep aides! So frustrating. I am a lot more used to sleeping all day every day than insomnia. Thanks for the suggestion, WPinVA, and I will post on any solution he has.

Lyme, Bartonella and I'd imagine also Babesia could lead to insomnia. For me, I think the insomnia is from Bart, because Cipro seems to help but other abx that don't hit Bart don't help.

Babesia caused me to want to sleep more and I think that is usually the case. Bartonella causes insomnia and so does protomyxzoa. If you treat the right infection, you can often see relief in a month or so.
I had terrible insomnia with bartonella. Then when babesia took over I fell asleep watching my favorite TV shows (which was unheard of for me). As babesia went down and protomxzoa came out, I could not sleep again. I was worried bart was coming back but realized what was going on - thank goodness - and starting treating protomyxzoa.
I was sleeping in about a month after starting treatment.

Thanks so much for all the information! I appreciate it very, very much.
Does anyone know if Dr. H is real into IV's? If I have a central line and have used it with previous LLMD's, will he use it or do orals? I am nervous!

I would have to agree with the above post... for me, Bart caused extreme insomnia and babs caused extreme fatigue. When tested, my endocrine system was also pretty whacked (off the charts adrenalin around 3-4am).
I tried every OTC remedy and most every Rx sleep aid at the time, but nothing worked for me until my LLMD came up with a coctail of several things. (sorry... I wish I could remember what it was because I could use it now too)
But I do hope that Doc H will address this issue because you really won't make much progress until you get the sleep problem back under control! Good luck!

Another thing you might investigate is the methyl cycle mutations. If you have a CBS mutation you will be low in serotonin and dopamine. Serotonin is converted to melatonin which helps you fall asleep. The CBS mutation can also produce excitotoxins.
