I can tell you that severe nutritional deficiencies can look like schitzophrenia, including B12 deficiency, which can be caused my multiple factors including celiac disease.

I think there is a relationship between schizophrenia and KPU.
There is a book called "Rickie" that details the daughter of a psychiatrist's struggle misdiagnosed with schizophrenia when she really had pyroluria and vision problems (the same vision problems that I have with Lyme).

Google....schizophrenia caused by Lyme disease...
lots of info regarding this. We have to also remember that Lyme is known as "The Great Imitator" It certainly would be worth getting him tested.

I think that lyme can absolutely cause severe mental issues...two years ago, I had a period in the winter where my brain broke basically. I had a complete mental breakdown...I wasn't myself, I was so incredibly mentally scattered and depressed and out of sorts. It was absolutely the lyme doing it. It went away over time but I have no doubt based on my own experience that lyme can definitely cause mental issues. Jess.

Yes. Can also be caused by MTHFR genomic variants...so methylation testing would be another avenue to explore...

- As others replied, certain nutritional deficiencies &/or metabolic issues can cause this.
And . . .
Lyme is not the only stealth infection that can cause this or other mental illnesses. There are others, too. If at all possible, though, a good LLMD would be the place to begin diagnostics.
Some NDs are especially suited to pinpoint nutrient issues, too. -

Dr. Abram Hoffer, recently passed, has treated schizoid condition for many years, with very much the same method as needed to overcome KPU, as others mentioned.
Allergie Immun corrects the dysregulations causing celiac - I think 100%, as well as dysregulations/inability to detox toxic metals and many of the other dysregulations that contributes to the condition.
All needs an understanding physician depending on the severity of the condition, especially if pharmaceuticals have already been introduced.
I am very familiar with the situation. My nephew died literally from med toxicity at the age of 42. It is not necessarily Lyme Disease, but can be caused by accumulation of any neurotoxins.
It is a mistake to say Lyme Disease causes all the problems. It takes a doctor familiar with Lyme Disease, but who also is knowledgable with other exposures causing neurological symptoms. That is the most important part.

I was just reading in a Gluten free for Dummies book that gluten can cause schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
Frankly, I think it's all related to lyme, as I suspect lyme attacks the gut and triggers celiac for some as well as many other auto immune disorders specifically correlated to the host's dna (just my opinion). Bb has 12 extra strands of dna to do whatever it chooses, including change ours.
