I have been gaining weight a lot lately, but am still eating the same, as anyone else experienced this problem with lyme and if so does anyone know anything that will help?
Thank You

- Just focus on getting enough nutrition and excellent flavor and variety from good foods (not processed). Gentle movement.
Lots more detail here about this very common occurance for many as they battle lyme. Good news is that it usually turns around when lyme & other TBD and related issues are resolved.
GMO foods that destroy the GI Tract; Gluten; Dairy. -
Thanks you, but I personally don't eat any of those foods as they don't agree with me!

I am hoping to start implementing some exercise to help with the gain, is there any types that are best or any that should be avoided?
I currently do yoga
thank you!

- Strolling, relaxed walking . . . Qi Gong, Tai Chi or a carefully chosen Pilates instructor - are all excellent for a start. Details about those, and many other good suggestions here - just scoot past the first part of this thread:

Is the weight gain maybe rather related to intake of ABX? We all know that antibiotics are used to make cattle/livestock gain weight. I have gained more in my 1.5 years of ABX intake than during my 9 years of Lyme...

Weight fluctuations are not uncommon in lyme. I don't know why it happens, but it does- both gaining and losing.
I gained 50 lbs after getting lyme. For 8 years I've been unable to lose ANY weight despite complete dietary changes, exercise, guided detoxes, etc...
Now suddenly the weight is falling off. 30lbs in 3 months gone.
Maybe someone has an answer regarding weight gain but I never found one.
All I can suggest is that you do your best to love and accept your body as it is and support it the best you can nutritionally- keep your strength up through exercise if you are able- maybe speak with a naturopath and see if detox/supplementation could help you in some way?

I have found that our lyme, co infections and all, screw with all body functions. Meaning, our thyroid will not work as it should and I feel, at least for myself, I go hypothryoid at times within treatment. Thus weight gain without doing anything.
Going on Natural thyroid meds usually kick things into gear for me.
Yes, exercise, low key, is a must for us, even if we do not feel like doing it. The more oxygen you can get flowing in your body, the better.

This is a huge issue for me.
Gained 10 pounds since starting abx for lyme mid April. I eat roughly the same amount of foods as I did prior to lyme dx. Always eaten lower carb, around 1800 calories, and non processed organic foods. (Can't do grains or legumes because of terrible indigestion afterwards. Trying 1/4 cup of soaked scotch oats as a grain food)
I don't believe the weight gain is diet related-but inflammation related.
The weight I am gaining is around my middle only. I used to be hourglass-now I'm an apple.
I am hoping lyme treatment and parasite treatment will reduce the inflammatory response and I will at least STOP gaining weight.
I will worry about losing weight when I feel well enough to.
I think nutrition is important when ill. Nutrient dense foods are key to give the body a fighting chance.
Did anyone have allergy testing done, and noticed stable weight or weight loss after removing their allergic foods?

- In the past 6 months to a year or so I've lost 30 pounds - and I've not even been trying - just always eat well and no junk but it seems that since I've started doing two things that the weight just disappears (a welcome thing, for me).
I am very exercise intolerant and always dizzy - so can barely stand up long enough for kitchen "duties" - that's my exercise. Some light Chi Gong. Hands, other joints unable to tolerate grasping or lifting of any weights.
So, it's even more amazing that 30 pounds left me without the kinds of exercise that I was able to do pre-lyme. Which leads me to thinking it's mostly inflammation moving out of my body.
I have been eating a bit less and pureeing everything due to mouth ulcers and burning tissue.
Still, I've still been getting the same kinds of nutrients as always. I've not starved or really even changed anything for years. I did all that way back in '90, actually and dropped all processed foods. But something good is happening that seems to be connected with:
BERBERINE & GREEN TEA
I do not own a scale. Have not for many years and plan to never own own again so this was a nice surprise recently when I weighed when over at a friends house.
It reaffirms my mantra about just getting good nutrition and not obcessing about the scale.
INFLAMMATION seems to be what I've been loosing. Not as swollen.
As long as we KNOW we are doing the best we can most of the time, just keep on and nevermind how we might appear to others (or to the scale). Still, it's nice to be a bit lighter as it does help in my case. Less inflammation = less pain, too. -

Jackie81- Was it just cortisol or was others as well? Are they standard tests or from a specialty lab?
Also, if you don't mind me asking, is it menopause related hormone changes? Or just life related hormone changes?
I am not at menopause yet.

- Greta,
There is also detail about hormone and adrenal influences here. Best to talk to your LLMD first as lyme really can derail all kinds of hormones and most regular doctors (even gyn. & endocrinologists) are unaware of that complexity unless also LL.
With just about anything, it's best to first talk to your LLMD or LL ND since lyme affects so many functions, systems and organs in very unique ways that would seem foreign to those not LL.

Iam only 31 and not menopausle either. For me I found out Iam insulin resistant which means my body has to pump out way more insulin to shuttle the sugar into my cells which causes weight gain . I also have high cortisol levels as well as estrogen dominance ... Fun stuff
