Would just like to hear others' experiences using Monolaurin or coconut oil?

Has anyone experienced a big reduction in symptoms from using monolaurin?

Never noticed any help with it. I would use Lauricidin if I were buying monolaurin. I think it is a high quality product. I used it many years ago.

I continue to use coconut oil.

Tutu,

How do you use the coconut oil? I've been trying to think of ways to use it.

I think monolaurin is an excellent supplement. I regard it more as a potent anti-viral, as opposed to it helping with symptoms.

And monolaurin is derived from coconut oil from what I understand so I think that makes it a very valuable supplement.

Epstein Barr has been a big issue for me and I have tried much as far as anti-virals go. I have tons of coconut oil on hand as someone bought it for me but I'm not sure how to use it.

Eat it. You can take spoonfuls in the morning on an empty stomach, or you can cook with it.

Cooking with it is good. (be aware that it splatters)

I also have a concoction I make. I'll try to remember to post it tomorrow. Very tasty!

Be sure to buy organic coconut oil.

I put a heaping tablespoon of coconut oil in a non caffeine tea morning and evening. If I take it too close to bed time it can keep me awake.

I am dealing with high liver enzymes so I put milk thistle in it as well.

I have been doing 3 to 4 scoops of monolaurin throughout the day for about two months. I am changing antibiotics because of the elevated liver enzymes. I am not seeing any benefit so far from the monolaurin. I bought three big tubs so I would give it a good 3 to 4 month test, I will report back bus so far nothing I can detect.

All the Best, MattH

I also put it in my green tea. We have also used it on popcorn instead of butter and in hot chocolate.

My bad cholesterol has dropped 50 points since starting coconut oil. I have not changed anything else in my diet.

Use cold pressed extra virgin organic coconut oil.

Tickled , I would go for valtrex with EBV . It definitely helped me, though I felt worse the first couple of months. Look up Dr Martin Lerner , CFS study .

I also think I would try olive leaf extract and chaga mushrooms . I have friend with HEP C who cut her titers in half with chaga . Her doc was surprised!

I would use it at a heaping teaspoon that comes with the lauricidin, I do think I herxed quite a bit with it. I got this as a gift from a hyperbaric center. Good luck it kills viral, bacteria, & parasites- no wonder a HERX :-0 [dizzy]

Tickled annx has some good ideas there. It wouldn't be a bad idea to try valtrex for the EBV.

And the OLE is a good idea as well. There's a good brand of it--Sea-something, but I can't recall it at the moment.

Using more coconut oil has definitely helped with overall feeling of well being. It is similar to getting rid of gluten in how it helps to make you feel better. I think it may have helped with some of my weight loss this past year along with the gluten reduction.

I use it in oatmeal, in boiling water for cooking, and in place of butter or oil in baking. It is great on popcorn, with quinoa or spread on toast. When I make gluten free pasta, I put a big glob in the boiling water and it helps to keep the pasta from clumping. I use it on my baked sweet potatoes like butter and it is delicious.

Also great on the skin and hair! Just had my cholesterol checked and HDL (good cholesterol) was so high my doc was thrilled. [Smile]

Should I be storing it in the fridge? I did and now it's hard as a rock and difficult to scoop.

Also, I'm concerned with how much should I be using? I don't want to overdo it. What happens if you use too much?

Can someone give me an idea of how much coconut oil to start with and what is the max per day I should be using? Thanks!!!

You don't need to refrigerate coconut oil. Even at room temp, it is usually solid and hard to scoop out in my cold kitchen. In warm rooms, it might become softer or even liquid.

I would start off with just a tsp. one day and see how you feel. Then you can increase. It did not give me any type of a herx, but I have read that it does for some, as it is antibacterial, antiviral and (I think) antiparasitical. I take up to 1 - 2 T per day in addition to my daily 2 T ground flax seed.

No, leave it out on the counter.

I also put it on GF bread if/when I have any. Use it like you would butter.

Here is my delicious recipe:

Mix together....

1 tbsp of spirulina
1 tbsp of cacao powder
3 tbsp of hemp seeds
1/2 packet of stevia
(these are all guesses.. just throw it all in and adjust accordingly)
Then add 3-4 tbsp of coconut oil
3-4 tbsp of cashew or almond butter

Cream it together. It will be difficult, but keep at it until it is creamy. If it's dry enough, you can roll them into small balls and put them in the freezer! Just get them cold and them pop them into your mouth. Yummy!

Most of the time I just eat the concoction with a spoon. Satisfies my craving for chocolate and for sweets....and it's healthy!

(tbsp is tablespoon)

Can I now remove it from the fridge and keep it out after it's been opened and refrigerated for a few weeks?

Lauricidin is good for preventing flu and stomach viruses and EBV. You have to work up to it or you will herx. I take a scoop a day.

However, Lauricidin doesn't work against cold or rhinoviruses.

I also take Transfer Factor PlasMyc for mycoplasma and HHV6 viruses.

Started lauricidin today for EBV and CMV.

These viruses are kicking my butt.

Does anyone have any more feedback about the lauricidin?

I tried A-V for viruses but it was too strong and I herxed real bad.

I am hoping the lauricidn is effective but gentle.

Any feedback appreciated greatly.

What is the difference between coconut oil, mct oil, and monolaurin?

I am allergic to coconut... I read lauriciden is ok for people with coconut allergies. Does lauriciden have the same impact on weightloss as coconut oil?

coconut oil has a 2 year shelf life. We keep ours in the pantry.

I only put it in the fridge when its melted and I want to scoop it. We can always tell when its getting warmer as the coconut oil melts.

A very tasty method of taking coconut oil is coconut cream. It is 70% coconut oil, tastes like coconut, and is great as a spread on toast, eating right off the spoon, other places you might use butter. I get mine from Tropical Traditions. It's organic.

I also use coconut oil for cooking and..... as a body moisturizer after showering. Beats all that mucked-up petroleum stuff called "body creme."

I've noticed my local health food store is now carrying lots of coconut-based products, too.

Best,

Cass A

Hi Kudzu

Monolaurin,(derived from coconut oil) lauricidin is supposed to be antiviral and antibacterial in vitro.

I am trying it to help me with EBV and CMV.

MCT oil(also derived from coconut oil) is showing promise for degenerative brain conditions such as Alzheimer's. It is being used as a food source for seniors who have the disease, and in liquid food for people who have food pumps.

Also, MCT goes directly to the liver to be converted into energy, and some body builders/low carbers use it as a functional food.

Coconut oil has caprylic acid and mct and monolaurin. It can be heated, eaten raw, stirred in warm drinks.

I've tried coconut oil(burns my throat and makes me cough) and MCT oil(tried it in smoothies burned my throat and gave me upset tummy) and not had any success with either.

I hope this lauracidin helps me with these darn viruses. It hasn't burned my throat so far.

Lauricidin didn't seem to help with my mycoplasma or HHV6. It may have helped with stomach viruses and EBV.
