It seems like I need one surgery after another. My joints just wear out. This is something that don't run in my family so I was wondering if it is just because I have Lyme disease.
First I had one knee replaced. Two years later I had the other one done.
Now my shoulder and hip are worn out. Has anyone else had this problem and do you think it is the result of having Lyme disease for some many years?

Like you, I was having one orthopedic surgery after another. Had four in the same year. Two total shoulder replacements, major spinal surgery, carpal tunnel, deQuervain's tendinitis surgery.
IT was ALL LYME DISEASE. Borrelia love tendons and ligaments. They will eat your cartilage, and if you have surgery they will colonize the scar tissue!!! This is why scar tissue often itches.
Almost five years of treatment for Lyme and I have never had to see an orthopedic doc again. The damage has been done by the spirochetes, but once active infection is gone, the pain goes WAY DOWN. Function goes WAY UP.

Do whatever you can to treat the CAUSE .. yes, the lyme. I agree with paulie.

i had 5 ortho surgeries so far and have neede 3 more for 8-10 years but it is so hard to bring my self to do them. other parts of me are impaired too and i cant figure out how to take care of my self to recover. my kneew were replaced 6 yrs ago and may have to be done again...
my arthritis and joint problems started in my early 30s so ortho said it was not normal and llmd said it was lyme...he knew cuz of gene i had...hla 2 and 4.
treating lyme is important. but getting the surgeries gave me my life back...and the simple ones like trigger thumb and carpal tunnel were easy and worth it.
im looking at possible back surgery for the first time---and not anxious to do that.
