I am aware that painful/swollen knees are part of the "Lyme experience".
I would appreciate hearing actual experiences, if you think it is caused directly by Lyme or by a co-infection.
I've been dealing with painful knees on and off for many years now, sometimes they hurt when all my symptoms are elevated, while other times I feel pretty decent and my knees hurt like heck. Sometimes they will go for months at a time without hurting.
Listening to others, I've heard that Bart may play into knee pain/swelling right below the knee cap.
I would appreciate any experiences you can share.

My knees are my most significant symptom of Lyme. They hurt so bad, I can't even think sometimes. I went from walking a couple of miles a day to not even being able to drive the car they hurt so bad. I am sorry they are bothering you.
I have been treated for Lyme since Nov. 2012 and my knees are much better. They are still very painful but I can go to the grocery store and the the aisles and make it through Walmart. I was not able to do that prior to beginning treatment.

Classic lyme unless you have candida too. Most on long term abx have candida.

I used to say that in the morning my knees felt like a loan shark came for his money and beat my knees with a bat. Excruciating. It did lessen considerably with Lyme treatment.

I have Lyme, no co-infections, and the swollen joints. I've found a couple remedies that alleviate the problem for me somewhat, and they are:
1) taking turmeric powder. I get it in bulk at the healthfood store and put it in capsules.
2) waving a red light tool, 660nm red light, around swollen knees and ankles. It actually alleviates the pain very well and I can go to sleep more easily afterwards. My unit is made by Light Energy (no financial affiliation).
3) getting a lymphatic drainage massage from someone who really knows what they're doing. Every time, for about three weeks, the pain is way down, indicating that something is going on with the lymph system and this problem, if anyone can explain it.
4) I guess I should say antibiotics too. The 150mg clindamycin I took 2x/day ended the joint swelling. Re abx, we're all different in terms of how we respond; it worked for me.
