My kids have taken to walking outside in socks without shoes. We have a lot of ticks around here. I see the kids standing on the grass. Can ticks bite through socks? Could they get Lyme this way?

Depends on the tightness of the weave of the socks, I assume.
If a tick can maneuver its way through a bristly fur coat to get to the skin of a deer, or through soft and fluffy down feather to get to the skin of a bird... I can't imagine socks pose much of a challenge.
Is it possible to treat your lawn? Or to spray their socks with permethrin based sprays?
Or to spray them with DEET based sprays?

What about telling them to at least spray tick repellent on themselves? Honestly, it's not worth a lifetime of suffering.

You can get ticks, with or without shoes and socks. Hubby and I get ticks UNDER our socks - they just climb right in there and make themselves at home!!!
I've started taking garlic supplements - this seems to have helped me. Hubby refuses to take it - we pulled 5 attached ticks off of him yesterday, he was on the riding mower with shoes, socks, jeans, underwear and a t-shirt on - they still managed to get him!!!

Wow. I didn't think it could be so dangerous. Those ticks are sneaky. I just told my kids they must wear shoes. Thanks everyone.
