I'd say yes it's possible, it happened to me. I have a very highly reactive body. The alarm bells go off very quickly when something is wrong.
That website that Steve posted has IDSA information. It was written by Allen Steere and even says:
" A tick that has not attached (and therefore has not yet become engorged from its blood meal) has not passed any infection. Since the deer tick that transmits Lyme disease must feed for >36 hours before transmission of the spirochete, the risk of acquiring Lyme disease from an observed tick bite, for example, is only 1.2 to 1.4 percent"
WRONG WRONG WRONG. I've been infected twice and the tick was only attached a short time.

After having symptoms for years & getting new ones years later. There was no way I could have known those symptoms were caused by Lyme, it just felt like every day life.
It only took 3-4 days of flu like symptoms & 6 days total to go from that into a downhill spiral of never ending Lyme symptoms.
Then within the next few months I still had to question, but now I know FOR SURE.

Yes. Indeed. Absolutely.
And, there is no time limit before infection can be introduced or reaction from the bite. It is also possible to become infected the instant of the bite, as skin is broken through to blood and the tick parts enter.
Spirochetes don't hide away, especially if the tick has recently had even a partial meal on an infected host, they don't wash their mouth and dab with a linen napkin.
Other tick borne infections can also be transmitted immediately. -

No doubt about it. It travels very quickly. I'm fighting a new bite myself. It took me at least 2 days to even realize that spot on my face at left corner of mouth/lips was even a nymph.
The next day the numbness, tingling began on left. 2 days later it was creating symptoms in my left breasts.
If there was other symptoms, I didn't note them because they are still with me. It had been a long time since I've had tingling and numbness on face. Never had a breast reaction and that scared the you know what out of me.

I have a similar question and map1131 answered some of it.
I was infected again with 3 bites in September. Over the past months, the symptoms I experienced after my 2006 bite have all returned. This time all at once.
My big concern today is that for the last two days I have had major tingling and vertigo. The last time I had it this severe, I had seizures (very disturbing). Has this happened to others?

Suebear, I wondered where you had been? I'm sorry you too have been in the fear zone, or I call it trauma zone of being bitten again.
Suebear, I'm not familiar with seizures, TG. But I do know someone in nearby KY city that has tons of experience with it. I will send you her email address by private message.
Vertigo takes me back to my first year of known illness in '99. Vertigo didn't come about for me again until the last several mths, long before this known tick bite happened.
Many on here also have seizures. I hope they chime in. If not, remember you can go up to top part of this page and click search.
Type in seizures, click on medical forum, any date and hit enter. Be patient while it searches for every post with that word seizure in it.
It will gives you years by thread and posts on the discussions.

I was reinfected over the fall too. (THIRD infection!!!) - I was sick the very next day with horrendous CNS symptoms. Sooooo, yes.

Tick bites I am not so sure either. I think it depends on the health of the person and any of the coinfections that happen to come along with Bb.
The first bite 2001. EM rash. Never was treated. Was a "dead ringer for lyme disease", but "we don't have lyme in BC" so I was put on steroids and methotrexate.
First time I ever phoned in sick to work. Was sick for 2 weeks with "The Flu" then "Strep" then "UTI" then "kidney infection".
I had a lot of abx for the strep the UTI and the kidney infections. Pretty sure it made things dormant.
Systems failed blah blah blah. Then recovered blah blah blah. The usual story.
My point is, (God I ramble...sorry guys!),
The last one, a female adult pacific hard bodied tick, wasn't even fully embedded or engorged when I found her.
Don't know how long she was on, but it couldn't have been that long as she still had a "beetle" shape, not that grotesque distorted gray look they get after a feed. *shuddddddder*
This was in the first week of November 2012.
Came down with "the flu" Nov. 18, 2012.
But bartonella...
Took 36 hours after a gazillion sand flea bites to get the weirdest migraine/flu/dizzy/fever thingy ... Dec. 15/12

But that's just me.
Funny how the days stick in your mind.
Because they were worse than any days before.
So I believe when folks say it only takes a few hours, cause I remember the last time vividly, especially the bart, but I also believe it might take weeks, depending on the health of the person.
Too bad the CDC can't get it's head out of the sand and do a proper frickin" survey. But I guess in order to do that, they'd have to admit chronic exists.
Ooooh I could curse a blue streak.
