If its in the high dose area its effective. I believe it has to be taken with another drug which makes it stay in the system longer. I can't remember the name of the drug but someone will know and hopefully respond. I know Dr B talks about it in his protocol.
How many mg will you be doing daily?

Yes, amoxi with probenecid plus flagyl (metronidazole) is how I got rid of lyme disease.
Amoxi with probenecid alone put all my lyme into the cyst form. This is per my final lyme doctor who cured me. When he added the flagyl, then I got well in no time.

Hi Lenny, Yup, it's the Probenecid ( ) that's usually added into the high-level amoxicillun protocol, assuming you aren't allergic to it (a few are). This protocol was often referred to as the L****** protocol after Dr L. in CT)
The probenecid keeps the bladder from filtering out the abx as quickly, allowing fewer daily doses (typ 2 rather than 3).
My LLMD added in Diflucan (flucanazole)- those tiny pink tablets women often take for yeast infections?- which helps weaken the Lyme AND keep the tummy more in-check, which is what you'll need to be taking with that "amoxy"... 6 grams a day!? Wow! Just how big Are you, Lenny? LOL
Start off at a lower dose, for sure, & build up after a week or so, which is probably what your doc suggests anyhow. I only went to 4 gr/day- after a month- & made great improvements by the 9th & esp. 13th week. (It saved me from the dreaded IV Rocephin...effective, but much more complicated & costly.)
An added benefit of being on the Probenecid is it also restricts 'excretion' of any benzodiazepine you might be on, like lorazepam (Ativan), which was my "fav" Rx to really take the edge off my Lyme symptoms, & help me get to sleep.
Good luck with that! And remember- deserts DON'T EXIST now, atleast until you're off the abx, Lenny. You slip Up & you'll have what I refer to as a yeast wash-out... many trips to the bathroom & feeling like a dishrag.
If yo DO experince that, immediately go off the abx (Fine if only for a day, when battling *Lyme*), stop eating *any* sugars, take your next Diflucan right away (ahead of schedule) & "pound" the probiotics. You do all *that* & you'll be back to just the soft poop after 1 day. ;-) Lesson learned.

diflucan helped me more than any abx. maybe I have. no I know I have, severe yeast.
but trying to get diflucan out of any doc around here is next to impossible when they say there's jo such thing as candida.

whoops! Meant "desserts", of course. (There'll always be deserts somewhere, esp. in Africa! ;-)~
Yup... When you are on any oral antibiotics [abx] at higher levels, you need to avoid sugar in your diet as much as practically possible, to avoid G.I. tract issues, like diarrhea. The abx kill off the good "flora"... allowing other stuff, including the dreaded 'C. Difficile' to flare up. This is why it's important to keep taking the "probiotics" (PLAIN yoghurts, kefir & capsules) *daily*, but spaced atleast 1 1/2 to 2 hours before- or after- your abx doses. Good luck!
