Ditto! There is a serious issue for NY docs that needs everyone's attention right now! NON NY residents, we need your help too!
Do any of us want to lose Doc H? He is a HUGE advocate for the lyme community. If he goes, what will happen to your doc? Seriously, this is THAT IMPORTANT!
Please go to ACTIVISM right now and follow the links.
Lyme friends, you are desperately needed here.

In addition, the more states that pass these laws the better the chances are that there will be momentum for other states to follow suit.
That's why this concerns everyone of us.
Right now there are six states that have laws that offer protections to Lyme patients and LLMD's.
Let's make it SEVEN.
We can't do it without your help.

Folks, this will be the one thread here in Medical for the NY bills. The mods do not want Medical Questions used for Activism. We have a section for Activism, with many threads on this issue.
From now on, we would like to have one clear thread in Medical Questions dedicated to sending people to Activism for a particular activism need and people can read the threads there for the needed info to take action.
If you haven't yet contacted the NY governor, please go to Activism and then make the call to the NY governor and/or email the governor with your support for him signing the bills into law that will protect NY doctors - very important to do! I made a nice long call myself.
Also, what about also reaching out to facebook Lyme groups and other Lyme organizations as well? I saw that www.lymedisease.org has the request listed as one of their cover news items.

BACK UP! Time is a-wasting if you have not yet contacted the Governor.
PLEASE DO SO TODAY. WE NEED EVERYONES' HELP FROM EVERY STATE IN THE NATION.
PLEASE go to activism and fill out the form. There are two separate forms, one for NY State residents and one for non NY state residents.
The form takes about three minutes to fill out. Please call the Governor's office, too.
You will find all the information you need in Activism:

Sending this back up for today. We need everyones' help to accomplish this critical task for the entire Lyme community.
If you have not contacted the Governor please do so today. If we don't reach out and make our voices heard we will never move forward with the many issues that the Lyme community faces.
New York needs your help. The Lyme community needs your help, too!
"There is a very important issue being discussed in activism that affects us all.
We need everyone's help.
Please go there and read the various posts about urging the Governor to sign the Lyme Bill into law.
It's a simple form that will take all of three minutes to complete.
There are two different links, one for NY State residents and one for non-New York state residents:
"The Senate also passed a bill sponsored by Hannon and Assemblywoman Didi Barrett, D-Millbrook, (S.7854/A.7558-b) that would protect doctors from being investigated by the Office of Professional Medical Conduct because they treated someone for Lyme disease with a method not widely accepted by the medical community. That bill passed the Assembly unanimously, 133 to 0."

Yes the bill DID pass but we need the Governor to sign it into law. It is not law yet.
If he doesn't hear from us and we don't put pressure on him, it may NOT happen. A previous Governor Pataki, many years ago had a Lyme Bill before him and DID NOT sign it into law.
Don't let an opportunity like this pass, no matter what state you live in. Many of you use NY State LLMDS. This Bill protects them, too.
Plus, the more states that pass these laws the more pressure there will be on other state to pass similar laws. right now there are SIX stateS with such laws.
We need all of you to participate to make it SEVEN!
Fill out the forms, it takeS three minutes and give the Governor's office a call.

If any of you are on other Lyme social network sites, could you please list the phone number for the governor and also the two url's for the comments forms - one for NYers and one for nonNYers, then ask people to pass the word along - thx -

This past Tuesday, some members of the NYS Coalition, a Lyme medical expert and a lobbyist who has been helping us with the NYS bill had a phone conference with the Assistant General Counsel to Governor Cuomo who handles health bills. She is the person who collects all the information that will go into making a recommendation about whether the Governor should sign the bill.
Two things seemed to come out of this meeting. One is that it does not look as if this bill will be ready for the Governor right now. The Assistant Counsel is new to Lyme and recognizes that she will need to read more information and to talk with the NYS Coalition more before making a recommendation to the Governor. A second phone call is scheduled for next week.
This is good in that it will give us more time to generate more grassroots contact with the Gov asking that he sign the bill - without the anxiety that the Governor can make his decision at any moment.
The second thing to come out of the meeting is that this will not be a slam dunk for us. The NYS DOH is questioning the bill.
Remember that we have two heavy hitters in NYS as far as IDSA followers go: we have NY Medical College and Stonybrook, so we can assume a great deal of pressure on the DOH to discredit us.
As of Thursday there have been 2,300 letters sent to the Governor on the Votervoice program. Please continue to get as many letters written to the Governor through this program as possible. Encourage people to let Governor Cuomo hear the cost of this illness in human suffering . We need to make sure he knows what is at stake if we lose the doctors who have most helped people with Lyme disease.
