When taking binders, are you supposed to take something with a laxative effect later on to push everything out? To me, it would make sense. And if so, then what exactly? I've looked around and am still confused on this.

Thanks

Yes, Burrascano says to take gentle laxatives and increase your fluids.

Take this very seriously. Otherwise, you can end up with a horrible case of constipation, really really horrible.

See this past thread where this was mentioned:

http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/1/129281#000001

Here is what Burrascano says exactly:

"Cholestyramine should be taken two to four times daily, and Welchol is prescribed at three pills twice daily. While the latter is obviously much simpler to use, it is less effective than cholestyramine. The main side effects are bloating and constipation, best handled with increased fluid intake and gentle laxatives." (page 13)

Take whatever laxatives have worked for you in the past. If you have never taken laxatives, then experiment with a few to see which ones work well for you.

You can try Natural Calm which is a magnesium powder. It is very mild. Or you can try Milk of Magnesia or any other laxative.

I think it depends if you get constipated. I never get constipated, I deal with the other problem. I even had diarrhea on cholestyramine.

Metamucil helps (it works for both diarrhea and constipation).
