I have a PICC line and am on zithromax once daily. I wanted to ask my Dr. about either lactated ringers or Myers cocktails, or both. Does anyone have any input on which I should ask for, pros and cons? Thanks in advance!

I have tried Meyers and also IV glutathione.
Most helpful to me was the IV glutathione.
I don't know what the other one you mentioned is.
Hope you find one you like that makes you feel better.

It's unusual b/c generally speaking, docs do not prescribe just zith, whether orally or IV, as a first line of defense for TBDs.
Typically, a tetracycline (doxy, mino) or a cephalosporin (ceftin, rocephin) is initially prescribed. And macrolides like zith are added afterwards.
I also find it strange that you are asking whether to add glutathione or lactated ringers to your IV zith.
Lactated ringers is a solution of saline and dextrose which is typically administered in a hospital setting for the sole purpose of administering fluids.

When I was on IV, I did lactated ringers on days off abx. For me they really helped with detox.

Terv, perhaps it was the additional IV fluids that helped with detox, not necessarily the lactated ringers itself?
I have never heard of anyone using lactated ringers as part of treatment or detoxing. And I've never heard of just zith being used to treat Lyme and cos.
Which is why I asked the original poster what exactly he or she being treated for.

I'm being treated for lyme and mycoplasma. I was asking about these two because from what I read lactated ringers helped with detox and that people had success with Myers cocktails as well.
I spoke with my dr and she doesn't think either are good options at this time. Thanks for the responses!

I have been on just Zith for Lyme and co-infections. It is used to treat babesia. I am next added mepron, as well as IV ceftriaxzone, as the zith brought my babesia titer down, but no effect on lyme.

Maia, I know about zith/mepron for Babesia (been there/done that too many times
Butterfly/Maia, some docs believe zith hits the cyst form of Lyme. And it's also used to hit myco. Butterfly, do you think your doc put you on the zith to get your myco levels down before moving on to other tx?
I personally haven't ever heard of zith being used to treat Lyme/cos without something else on board, like rocephin. I think that combo is an excellent one, FWIW.

Butterfly, IMO it's good that you will be starting the doxy. Perhaps your doc didn't want to start it during the summer months b/c of sun sensitivity issues. Best of luck with your new protocol!

Yes , dr did mention no doxy during the summer. Thanks! The doxy seems to be hitting me harder than the zithromax as far as a herx but I've been gaining energy and lifting brain fog since I started the zithromax.
Since it seems rocephin is the standard for lyme IV treatment I'm going to ask at my next appointment why I am not on that instead.
It may be possible the dr is treating me for mycoplasma and bartonella as well... I didn't test positive for bartonella but based on symptoms and a muscle test (yes... I know, not sure how much you can believe that) the dr. Believes I have Bart as well.
I have what seem to be bart streaks on my neck and upper back on and off since starting the IV and now many more since starting doxy.
Is there a link to somewhere I can read up on the different abx choices so I can be more prepared for my appointments?

To learn which meds treat which diseases, read the Burrascano Lyme Treatment Guidelines found here:
Look up each coinfection and that section will tell which meds treat each individual coinfection.

Hi Butterfly, IMO the "standard" is either doxy or rocephin.
FYI, I personally DO believe in muscle testing when done by a qualified, reputable practitioner.
If you have Bart, many treat that with a fluoroquinolone abx like Cipro or Levaquin. Read up on those. You need to be taking magnesium if a doc puts you on one of those abx.
Seems like your doc is taking things low and slow and that's not a bad thing.
As far as links, use the search function here. This disease and its co-infections have a really long learning curve.

I take a chronic illness iv, which is basically a Meyers cocktail with glutathione added in the end. I do it once a week and I swear by it. The weeks I don't get it, are worse weeks.
I did see that you can get them and administer them yourself. When I get my line put in I will look into this.
Right now, I go to the dr's each week 2.5 hrs away and have a 2 hr iv for $150.
