Is there one? Now that I have developed arrhythmia, I don't dare to start taking antibiotics anymore. But, at the moment, all my ugly symptoms are back and I feel I should try again. My doctor prescribed small amount of biaxin, but when I was taking it, my heart was all over the place and the whistling in my ears was unbearable. Anybody with the same problem? If so, how did you solve it? Thank you,

Biaxin is definitely not safe for the heart if you are having any trouble at all with your heart.

Stay away from macrolides and fluoroquinolones. Stay away from Levaquin, Cipro, Avelox, Zithromax, etc.

You might try amoxycillin, Ceftin, and any of their derivatives.

This can also be because the antibiotics kill bacteria in the heart tissue. Could mean it is actually working, but you would not want to encourage a major heart herx. Your lyme doc should be told about this.

QT & arrhythmia (you can have arrhythmia without a blatant QT issue but a QT issue will cause arrhythmia).

There are a couple good links here about QT Syndrome that have some very important details -- such as best to avoid loud, heavy beat music - and maybe even alarm clocks - if you have rhythm irregularities.

If QT issues might be genetic (think back in blood family history) there is also information here about that.

So, if someone has a tendency toward QT problems, it's even more important to avoid Rx that can irritate QT rhythm. And many Rx do. Not just antibiotics.

And then there's support for the heart:

You might enjoy the benefits of something like Hawthorn, too, &/or magnesium. Scroll down a ways into this to get right to some of the supplements for support. Hawthorn is very nice, indeed.

And Magnesium can help settle some kinds of rhythm disturbances (although it's always best to first avoid anything that overtly triggers or cause disruption in the first place if there are other ways to approach the puzzle).

CARDIAC INFO & SUPPORT

There is no single Hawthorn link, it's all inside of that one. However, here's a handier reference for:

Some who find antibiotics are not working for them, in various ways, have found other methods with herbals / LL NDs (naturopathic doctors) so the link inside of this one provides more detail about alternatives in that area.

And some find a rife machine to be their ticket.

"whistling in the ears" - that kind of tinnitus is always - always - a sign that it's best to back off [whatever is determined to be the trigger or habit] if at all possible . . . or ADD LIVER SUPPORT and see if that helps enough.

I'm sorry that is also in the picture as it's just as off-setting as heart skips. Be sure adrenal support is also on board as both can also trigger stress hormones.

Heart / blood pressure could be related yet that kind of tinnitus can also be a red flag for ototoxicity - especially right after taking a new Rx.

You might scroll right to the end of this set for BAUMAN's links on that (and then go back over some of the others for detail on safeguarding your hearing / balance).

I mentioned "habit" here - related to wearing of headphones or (worse) in-the-ear buds. Important detail here about that, specifically relating to certain antibiotics / other Rx:

Topic: TINNITUS: Ringing Between The Ears; Vestibular, Balance, Hearing with compiled links - including HYPERACUSIS

With some ototoxic Rx, if they absolutely must be taken, some kinds of liver / kidney support might be of help.

LIVER & KIDNEY SUPPORT & and several HERXHEIMER support links, too. HEARING / BALANCE SUPPORT, too.

I agree with Lymetoo. Ceftin has been my antibiotic of choice. I can't do the macrolides or fluoroquinolones.
