Friend found a tick on husband - tiny tick working it's way into shoulder. Only got 1/2 tick out!!! That's concerning, right?
I told them to save the tick in Ziploc.
I said I would go to the ER and have the rest removed because while it's in there, it could be infecting with lyme.
What advice is the right advice that I can give friend? I said, get tick out, call a lyme specialist asap, and send tick to Igenex for testing.
Anything else?
xoxo

I think your friend should be getting triage antibiotics, like 200mg doxycycline 2x/day for 6-8 weeks, and stay out of the sun.

Tell them to get pictures of the rash. They will need it later!!!
Get a photo of the rash next to a ruler or coin to show the size. Get a photo of the rash with their face in the photo, if possible. Get a photo with a date next to it... newspaper or cellphone info to show the date.
Tell him to DEMAND several weeks of antibiotics .. hey, try it!!
Good luck!!

- Along with antibiotic that is particularly suited to address borrelia, in high enough dose for long enough . . .
Flagyl to prevent the cyst form of lyme from taking over, too (to prevent chronic lyme from having a chance). Antibiotics can not address that action.
And tell them to stay out of Oregon. They will not receive any proper medical care in Oregon by any MD. [although there are few LL NDs but they are booked months in advance.]
Seriously, if they are thinking of traveling north, they should stay out of Oregon - please be sure they know this - no care for lyme or other tick borne infections from any MD north of that California line.
at this stage and for the next few months, they could require medical care and they need to be in a state where there are at least some doctors who could help them.
Even if they get some Rx, other symptoms may develop, other tick borne infections, etc. that could require additional attention by a LLMD.
Lyme Disease.org --- they have online support groups and are based in California. -

- I would take FLAGYL FIRST - then the antibiotic after the flagyl has had time to fully get as deep into the body as possible.
Because, when an antibiotic is introduced, in a very short time, the borrelia spirochetes will detect that and then can spring and burrow deeply into body tissue. Best to have that cystic form prevention on hand FIRST.
How taking just doxycycline - or any antibiotic alone - can cause Chronic Lyme:
LIVER & KIDNEY SUPPORT & and several HERXHEIMER support links, too.
HEARING & BALANCE support, too. -

- Doxycycline - very wise advice above to stay out of the sun - totally - even through a window.
Also might advise them if they take doxycycline to keep their torso upright for at least minutes afterward and to
take it in the middle of a good meal to protect stomach lining
take away from dairy & any mineral supplements
No alcohol and go easy on carbonated beverages. Green tea would be a good choice. Lemon water with a little stevia. [But then rinse / swish with water to protect teeth.]
Probiotics a couple hours away from any antibiotic -

- It's very good luck they happen to be where they are in their travels, in a place where they have a chance.
Hope the name Robin sends will work out well for them. Please keep us posted. It would be great to hear they got in to see a doctor who really knows all about this and has them covered. -
