A summer filled with clindamycin has basically destroyed my gut. I've tried fermented vegetables, probiotics, prebiotics, etc. While it is much better, the c diff can reoccur if one is not careful. I've been on Flagyl and now on Vancomycin ($700 for 2 weeks, Yikes!!!).

Curious if anyone has had any luck with either Elixa Probiotics (a 6 or 12 day jump) or Restore for Gut Health (this product is on Better Health Guy site).

Looking for suggestions.
Thanks.

I haven't tried those. So sorry to hear that you got c.diff!

Have you tried Prescript Assist also? and s.boulardii??

L-Glutamine seems to help heal the gut lining for me.

I've taken it. I prefer S. Boulardi.

If you want to think outside the box a bit, kefir or yogurt enemas are having great results & they beat a fecal transplant.

You can also bust open some probiotics & do a retaining enema.

I highly recommend starting with the "Inroductory GAPS Diet", and then moving into the "GAPS diet".

This is not a permanent diet, but a protocol to help heal your gut, however, your diet/gut health will always be crucial to your recovery.

Meat broths, and later, bone broths are very important.

Here are links for both:

I don't know if this would help you, but I had gastritis and cured it eventually by taking Slippery Elm and prevented additional injury by taking a tsp of yogurt (unsweetened Dannon tastes the best) before and after taking either an herb or abx. I now take Garden of Life Primal Defense Probiotic Formula and have a small cup of All-Bran at breakfast.

I think that both the products you mention look interesting. Restore4Life do not ship internationally at present.

I contacted the Elixa formulator and got a very honest reply: he says that there is no contraindication for Lyme, though he would not expect it to help Lyme in a direct way. One of his first customers has Lyme though and likes Elixa a lot.

I am thinking of trying it out after I finish my current probiotics.

Mentioned in a post above, L-Glutamine can help heal the gut lining, however,

for those with neurological issues, be very careful with only the lowest dose possible (if other things do not first work). Here's why:

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/1/113775?#000000

Topic: Amino Acid Information Link

See post: Caution: Aspartate; Glutamine; and Phenylalanine (3 excitatory amino acids that can be wrong for us when added as supplements, beyond a normal dietary level)

Seaweed has its own natural MSG (monosodium glutamate) and can be very excitatory

Be sure to avoid PPIs. They have been directly linked as a contributing "set up", too.

PPIs also have other risks aside from this issue.

Cross search these two terms at Google: "c. difficile" "Proton-pump inhibitor"

If you are not already gluten-free, that should help. Good luck.

Also consider:

Slippery Elm Bark powder

DGL / Licorice

Marshmallow Root powder

I'm on day 8 of Elixa. Jury is still out.

Will go on Restore after about a week after Elixa.

Can't take L-Glutamine, :-(

Thanks Keebler.

How are you getting on, Jackie? Did you move onto Restore4 Life as planned? Have either product been helpful, do you think?

I don't think the Elixa helped that much. I haven't started the Restore yet as I'm now on Beyond Balance Bab-1 drops, so didn't want to switch.

I'm wondering if I'm histamine intolerant. So, have started DAO. Doc gave it to me months ago, just I didn't know what for.

FWIW, the Elixa has a probiotic that increases histamine. If it didn't, it might have been better.

Sorry to hear that it didn't suit you: I took my first dose today. I have been uncertain about histamine intolerance and did follow a low histamine diet for a while, but the jury was out as to whether it was a big issue for me. Let's hope I don't learn the hard way!

Good luck with the Betond Balance Bab-1 and the DAO.....I was unconvinced that the latter made a difference for me.

jackie51...

You haven't mentioned what your diet consists of.

In my experience, no amount of supplements or gut products are a substitute for a gut-healing diet...

Diet is reasonably good. Organic for the most part, rarely if ever processed. Black coffee, water, nothing else to drink.

What about gluten and grains?

You might consider a gut-healing protocol like the G.A.P.S Intro/diet, as mentioned above (including good fats, meat broths, no coffee, etc.)
