The one lyme book says lots of lyme people (for various reasons) have leaky gut. Leaky gut lets in bigger molecules (and bacteria, which are VERY small).
So who's to say ingesting 50 billion CFU probiotic pills isn't shuttling some bacteria into your ciruclation? The bottle even says "don't take if you are having surgery"... yikes!
And who's to say that those bacteria don't have endotoxins that get released when our antibiotics kill them? Endotoxins can cause herx reactions.
And who is to even say that indiscriminate use of probiotics is not causing a different chronic bacterial infection that could take years to get rid of, and associated symptoms?
The bacteria in yogurt don't care who we are or why we are eating them; they have every bit of survival mechanisms and will to reproduce, and resist antibiotics, as Bb does...

- Leaky gut is certainly something to address. Probiotics can be wonderful help in healing leaky gut, though.
There is a lot out there to read and - with the best articles & books - answers become clearer after studying the benefit of probiotics and the destruction of the body from lack of them.
Sepsis / septic shock is not going to be a concern from a good quality probiotic or from foods that contain good probiotics.
If you hesitate replenishing the gut flora with a probiotic, you might rather enjoy the foods that you can make for yourself that will help replenish and balance the gut flora.
Gut flora is everything to our bodies when we can keep it balanced. -

Yeast overgrowth is nasty and promotes leaky gut ...idk if it can be avoided with long term oral abx ..but we have to try..sourkrout and a 100 billion has been helping but is it in vain..? Some have even done fmt..

Actually, there have been a couple of reports in medical journals about even the good strains of probiotics (such as the GG strain, known as Culturelle) being found infecting inner organs -- such as the heart, upon autopsy, if I remember correctly.
I used to have that article at my fingertips, but I cleaned out my files over a decade ago, and I would be hard pressed to figure out what search terms to use to find it again. I don't even remember how I found it the first time -- probably by sheer serendipidity.
These were all in cases of persons who were already immunocompromised -- probably cancer with immunosuppressive drugs, but I honestly don't remember any of the specific details.
Nevertheless, that article (or articles) really grabbed my attention and made a lasting impression on me by making me realize that even probiotics can be a double-edged sword.
That's why I won't ever consider taking any of the Bacillus organisms (aka: soil-based organism) because they are very hardy strains that are highly resistant to all antibiotics, meaning that if you ever were to acquire a deep-seated (or is the correct term deep-seeded?) infection from them, then your chances of recovery are very slim indeed. It's just not worth the risk, IMO.
