I am now down to a quarter of 1 mg pill of ativan. I was taking half for at least six months.

I want off of it.

I am now cutting the half in half. so that would be .250 right????

so how long should I stay at this dose before going every other day? dr said I can stop completely after several weeks but that ain't what the internet says.

Hi Randi

How often are you taking the .25? Once I weaned down to .25 twice a day, I easily stopped my daytime dose. I just stopped and I think I was lucky I did ok with that.

Was harder for me to give up the night dose as it helped me sleep so I did every other day for two weeks then every third day for a week then I stopped.

It wasn't bad for me but I know of others who have to wean slower. I think all of our bodies are different. You can do it

I take it at night. I figure a week on this dose, maybe longer. then switch to every other day for at least two weeks.

sound about right?

It is .25, but I wouldn't be so sure you're going to have a bad reaction to stopping. Ativan is the fastest acting and it clears from the body the fastest.

There are some bad stories on the internet for sure, but when I got cut off from all benzos last month I had a couple bad moments but I had stopped thinking about them by the time several weeks had passed. You never know -- you are really not taking a lot of it now.

thanks very much. all the horror stories scared the crap out of me.

I have two addicts in the family and some alcoholics so I'm familiar with this type of drug.

guess I'm hyper sensitive.

I would ween off very, very slowly. I know you want to be done with it, but give your body and mind time to gently recalibrate itself. Everything will work itself out. Hugs.

Did you have any problems as you were cutting back on the amount earlier?

If you didn't, I'd say your plan sounds like a good one.

My hubby has weaned off this med twice already and is working on it the 3rd time.

Your plan sounds very good, smart.

I did things a little differently though. I just decided one day that I didn't want to be on the drug anymore and stopped cold turkey. Might sound crazy to you but it made sense at the moment. I needed to take back power over all aspects of my life...

Thankfully, I didn't really have a hard time stopping it. So I think that it will be easier for you than you think since you have already successfully weaned down to .25 of a pill.

Since you take it at night are you using it for insomnia?

If so are you replacing it with anything? Or is your sleep not changing while you reduce it?
