Hi folks:
My 9 year old daughter has had a relapse. She was bitten when she was 2, and then again when she was 4. We treated her with a well known pediatric LLMD in CT after each with 1-2 months of abx.
All seemed fine. Then in spring 2015, when she was 7, she started complaining of rocking dizziness, sore throat, stomach aches. Alarm bells started going off in my mind. 2 months later she gets a textbook bullseye. Back to the LLMD we go. She did 2-3 months of Ceftin and was completely normal. Zero symptoms.
Then the next spring, in April 2016 when she was 8 she got symptoms again. She tested CDC positive on IGENEX western blot. We discovered gluten / wheat allergies. She did 2-3 months of Omnicef and then Ceftin again. Again, she was fine. No symptoms. Was better than ever particularly after going gluten free.
In April this year my wife and I thought we had kicked it. She hadn't complained of anything all spring. We gave a sigh of relief.
Then the last week in April, she started getting the rocking dizziness again along with headache, etc. All old symptoms. It was back. $&@*$!!!
Back to the LLMD. Did a boatload of testing. This time she tested positive for Bartonella (via Bioreference Labs), Mycoplasma Pneumonia (via Quest), as well has having high IgG for HHV-6.
Since she is now 9, LLMD started her on minocycline. She has never been on a tetracycline drug before and has only done cephalosporins since she is allergic to amoxy etc.
She also started MC-Bar-1 drops for bart. Anyway, unlike previous years where she just got better almost immediately, this has been a rough ride.
She started the mino first and had generally done well. But when we start the MC-Bar-1 for bartonella she feels like garbage. Sore throat. Headaches. Malaise. etc. Really herxes.
She also has been getting spells of vertigo. This is new. They last 30 seconds or so and happen a few times a week.
What bug causes vertigo? I've read Lyme or Babesia. But wanted to confirm.
We've stropped the MC-Bar-1 drops and she seems to feel better. But when we restart she feels bad again.
My experience says this is likely a herx because we finally have proof of Bart (which we always have suspected) until this year and now we are targeting it. But I didnt think Bart caused vertigo.
Still, some of me worries she isn't on effective treatment yet. Perhaps mino isn't the best for her. I know it is good for mycoplasma pneumonia. But she always does better on Omnicef, etc.
Thoughts?
Note that compared to some people and many folks kids my daughter does well most days. 90+%. On days where she flares she feels maybe 70-80%, but isn't disabled. It's just like she has the flu.

So sorry you all have had such a go around with this nasty stuff.
Mino can cause dizziness or vertigo. Not saying that is what is happening, I can't tell, it is just something to consider. Makes me, for example, very ver tea go ish.
Bart can cause "dizziness", possibly vertigo- used interchangeably sometimes. Babesia can cause "dizziness", and again, vertigo may be present, just worded as dizziness.
Unfortunately, the early cases of Lyme where symptoms were recorded and published could have been "off" because we didn't know about Bart, Babs, etc. when studies were being carried out.
I can't say which one it is affecting her, but I hope she has a good recovery again this year too.
