My husband has had lyme disease for almost twenty years and has been dealing with it fairly well through natural means. But his latest problem is bloating. He feels as if he is going to explode, not from gas but like his whole insides are puffed up. His pants don't fit because of his stomach swelling and he is simply miserable. I don't know what to do to help him through this. Does anyone else suffer from this problem and know of anything natural that he can take. At the moment he is taking tumeric, "Healthy Trinity" and peroxide. They all seem to be helping but not with the bloating problem. We sure would appreciate your help. I have beeen reading the messages posted by those suffering from lymes and it has helped me to understand so much better what my husband has been going through all these years. Thanks so much for opening up my mind and helping me to have more empathy to those who are suffering so. My hubby is a stubborn German and tries to overcome everything on his own but he needs help from others who suffer. Thanks for listening and we look forward to hearing from you.

Is your husband under the care of an LLMD? Could be lots of causes for the bloating, and without a Dr's care, that's kinda scary and if it were me, I'd be rethinking that route.
Yeast is a likely culprit and there are many 'natural products' out there to treat it. Is your husband on a no-sugar, low carbohydrate diet?
I take pure Oil of Oregano and put 3 drops a day into size 00 capsules.. although starting out, start with 1 drop and see how he feels.
Yeast die-off is just as nasty as Lyme die-off and he might feel terrible from even just one drop. It took me 2 months to build up to 3 drops a day, but I never have a problem with it anymore.
And if he's not seeing an LLMD, I would really rethink that and post on the Seeking a Doctor section for an LLMD in your area.
Happy Holidays (and welcome to Lymenet)

Try cutting out ALL dairy products for a few days.
Lactose intolerance often causes bloating like that...

I asked my LLMD about the bloating too. We haven't solved the problem yet.
But, Charlie...you just might have something there. I did have cottage cheese with blackberries yesterday.
I'll keep an eye on the diary theory and see if that is it.
No bloating today. So far, I have had soy milk and eggs and hamburger.
I use to think it was because I wasn't getting enough acidopholus....but not sure if that theory is right or not?

....I know I've got something there...cottage cheese or buttermilk makes me blow up like a blimp. Does it to Jenny too.(and sends her racing to the bathroom)
MSG also causes that sometimes. Whether any of this is TBD related I don't know???

I am terribly bloated too. My sox leave elastic ridges within 10 minutes of putting them on and my wedding ring is getting tough to put on and take off. I cant stand it, its like having extreme PMS all the time. I'd like to loose 10 pounds too and thought that might help. Pattiecake

In addition to the above possibilities, there are more serious problems that can cause "bloating" such as you describe including liver issues. Please have your husband go to see a doctor -- it might be a benign cause or it might be much more serious requiring something more than supplements.
I hope it is benign, but it would be prudent to rule out something more serious. None of us are M.D.'s here.
All the best to you and your husband.

I've had much less bloating since cutting most salt out of my diet. However, last week I went out for Chinese food and had leftovers the next day. It was really salty. The next day I was so bloated I couldn't fit into my new holiday pants that fit the week before! The pelvic bloat felt like I was swollen from inside. I wasn't gassy though.
I stayed bloated for 4 days and on the 5 & 6th days had to pee so often I couldn't go out. I shrunk back to my normal size. The peeing started after I ate green beans. This always works for me ( I read about string bean's diuretic properties, someplace a long time ago). I should have remembered to eat green beans right away after I got bloated. Asparagus helps too.
Milk products give me a different kind of gassy, sick bloat.
