I am wondering if anyone has had the flu shot recently and if you experienced any reactions. I have had the vaccine in the past, but didn't have Lyme at the time. My doctor recomends getting it, but someone else I know seeing a different doctor was told not to get it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
My kids will be getting the flu shot on the 23rd. Both have lyme. My son has asthma and my daughter was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes in May.... so their doctors are recommending they get the flu shot.
Even their LLMD said they should get the Flu shot, as their immune systems are weakened due to the lyme, so they are more susceptible of getting hit hard with the flu...add asthma and diabetes and the risk doubles..
It's a risk I'm not willing to take, so they will get their flu shot... Both kids had them last year as well, and neither of them had a problem.
I hope the same holds true this year

I strongly believe that getting the flu shot if you have Lyme is the wrong thing to do. I do not do it. Research hard and long before taking the flu shot when you have significant health issues such as Lyme.

I won't be getting one...and haven't ever...
took elderly mother to get hers and she had to sign something to with Mercury...well, I AM allegic to Mercury and when I saw that, I new right then and there that I'd never be getting one even when I am elderly.
I had the flu during the last pandemic, the Hong Kong flu in January 1969 my Senior year at high school. I was flat on my back for over 2 weeks...doctor even came out to my house I was too sick to sit in his office.
So, I figure it this way, if Lyme doesn't kill me the next flu pandemic probably will....oh, well

I had one 10 years ago and can still remember the moment it went into my arm ..thats how aweful it was for me....
It was the beginning of my problems... I immediately passed out and then spent 9 months bedridden with the room spinning , fevers, and in agony.....
It never got better until my Lyme diagnoses. My LLMD thinks the shot caused my immune system to overreact and trigger the Lyme.....
Anyway, that said I personally will never get another vaccine as long as I live....
Although evryone is different.....some do well with it, but I would definetly do your research before making a final decsion.

I will absolutely never ever get another vaccination/flu shot ever. One word: Thimerosal.
I was working at a very large California medical facility. The head nurse told me that SHE would never get one or have her kids get one. She was the one who told me about Thimerosol, which has both mercury and aluminum in it.
And they still put it in vaccines to this day. It saves them money. I confirmed this when I was working there.
Mercury is the second most toxic thing to the human body. The safe level for it in your system is ZERO. Zero micrograms, zero units, zero whatever.
As a bit of backstory if you are interested, I had to sign a confidentiality agreement for what I did, so I can't name names but let me give you some details of what I was a part of (it makes me sick to think about it).
A couple of years ago it was discovered that a thermometer was broken in a freezer that stored vaccines. The temperature of the freezer had dropped to a few degrees below the recommended storage temperature.
The higher ups at Medical center X decided that, just to be on the safe side, they would call the over 700 patients that were affected, and have them come in and get RE-vaccinated. (So they ended up getting DOUBLE doses of vaccines).
Most of these patients were very young children, many of them infants.
Many of these patients had to get 8 or 10 shots AGAIN. Most times the shots were administered ALL AT ONCE but sometimes broken into two sessions. The management at this place did everything they could to keep this quiet.
I predict that in a few years, this town that shall remain nameless will see a huge surge in autism, disease, etc. It breaks my heart.
So to make a long story short, I will break the law if I have to to keep my children (if I can ever have any with the Lyme) from getting vaccinated and I will avoid any sort of flu shot like the poison that it is.
I can't believe I gave myself the vitamin B shots witholut first checking the ingredients. Garrr. I ended up shooting myself up with aluminum.
Anyway, for what it's worth, that's why I think the way I do. I pray for all those kids. It was so hard to be at work for months hearing them screaming as they got the many many shots.
A.

I know someone who recently got a flu shot.....
She is a 16 year old girl with lyme, her mom made her get because she has asthma, and the doctor told her it was the thing to do.
Immediately after receiving the shot she became ill. She got the flu from it, and has been very sick going on four weeks now. Her lyme symptoms became much worse. She just started going down hill.
My opinion ---- YOU can put whatever YOU want in your body! But I am trying to clean mine up and get rid of the toxins that promote lyme, like mercury. I refuse put make my lyme worse to "prevent" (which I don't think it does) the flu.

I wouldn't, but thats me and I simply do not trust them, nor think they work at all! Vaccines=EVIL IMHO.

Wow! I am surprised to see so many people against getting the flu shot. Dr.Jones who is know on this board to be one of the best LLMD's in the world, strongly recommended that I get both my kids a flu shot. As did my LLMD.
All I can do is share my own experience. We all had the flu shot last year and we were fine.
The year before, I went against our LLMD's recommendation to get the flu shot and my 8 year old son, ended up in the emergency room on Christmas day, very ill from the flu and as he has asthma, he could hardly breath. VERY SCARY!!!!
A day later both myself and daughter got the flu as well. (My husband had a flu shot at work, he didn't get sick) We were very sick for over 10 days. It was awful, we all had a relapse on top of the flu and my poor son had to crawl on his hands and knees to get to the bathroom as his joints hurt so badly. And he had awful breathing problems.
So we are getting our shots in 2 weeks. I just can't take the risk with a child with asthma and a child with diabetes. If you can't breathe, nothing else matters;)
Everyone has to do what they think is best.

I had my first, and last, flu shot in 2000 (this was way before I was dxd with Lyme, although I did have it then).
I had come down with the flu the year before and thought I would die. While my husband also got it and was back on his feet in 5 days, I was knocked flat for over a month. So, the next year, I figured no way was I ever going through that again... But then I got the shot.
I IMMEDIATELY TURNED BRIGHT RED and my skin felt like it was hot. And I stayed that way for 6 weeks. My brain got all buzzy, I was very light-headed. While I didn't get the flu, I feel like the shot messed me up even more than the flu did.
My LLMD told me NEVER to get a flu shot. Rather, focus on healthy sanitary habits and boosting the immune system. So I wash my hands a zillion times a day, carry clove oil spray everywhere to disinfect, take tons of immune boosters, and crank them and Vitamin C up even more if I feel like I'm fighting something.

I got a flu shot - and had absolutely no reaction. My LLMD said that if I did, it would not be a bad thing - like a herx, gets things moving around

Well, I'm in the unpopular camp! I get them every year, and have never had a single problem.
I got the flu one year, and it was hideously awful. I'll never forget it. I'm glad to get whatever protection I can get (but I'm sure my tune would change if I had a bad reaction to the shot).
I have read all this stuff about the bad things in it, so I'm going to try some detoxing things, starting w. the foot pads.
It makes sense that we go by our experiences... so you may want to pay special attention to how your kids do.

I got my yearly flu shot yesterday. I've missed 4 days of work in 30 years due to illness. Three of these were from flu about 25 years ago. I don't want that again.

I know a lady who had pre-existing optic nerve inflammation due to Lyme, had a flu shot, came down with fever and flu-like symptoms and immediately lost sight in one eye and is losing it in the other.
That said, the decision about what's best has to be made by a doctor who is both Lyme-literate and familiar with your particular condition. Only he/she would be able to weigh up the risks for and against. Sorry if that's not much help, but my guess is that there is no blanket rule that could apply to every Lyme patient on this. If there was, I'd guess that ILADS would have put out an announcement about it.

I started getting a yearly flu shot when I turned 40 (I am 49), sort of figured it was the thing to do, like getting your first mammogram at 35. (Although I also got vaccinated along with the whole town back when we had the epidemic of Swine Flu, in the 70's maybe?) Anyway I never had any reaction from it except the one they tell you to expect, a possible sore arm, some achey muscles, and maybe a low-grade fever for a day. I got the shot a few years ago and still got the flu several months later - first time I ever had it - and I was so ill, I wondered how bad it would have been without the shot. I dislike vaccines, and am appalled at the stuff they put in them as preservatives. I also have some autoimmune components to the Lyme, so I really don't like to over-stimulate my immune system. (When I got the measles/mumps/rubella shot in my 30's, because I had never had any of this stuff and there was an epidemic up at the hospital where I was supposed to take my mom for a doctor's appt - and couldn't, because of this - I got serum sickness, and DEATHLY ill.) Nonetheless I guess I've weighed the two evils. Along with the autoimmune components I also have a low amount of certain immune factors - killer cells - so I hope to make the right antibodies against the right illnesses. That's all I can hope for.

My LLMD told me not to get the flu shot. She said that it was made with mercury (to add shelf life) and there was legislation passed requiring the drug manufacturers to remove the mercury because of health issues. However, the drug companies were allowed to use the vaccinations that they had stockpiled before making new. So there are still some of the flu shots with the mercury. That really does not matter though; the new vaccines have aluminum (to add shelf life) instead of mercury.
Heavy metal poisoning is about as much fun as LD and yeast overgrowth. Neither would I do intentionally.

Very interesting, all the recent posts on Flu SHots. I have been thinking of whether to do it again this year or not. I have had Lymes since 1999, and had the flu shots in the 70's and early 80's but quit getting them because of such reactions each time. (Very sick for about 5 or more days). But after my receiving my ostomy in 1994, I couldn't afford to get the flu again, like I used to several times a year, especially with my asthma too. I was treated for Lyme disease for 24 days with Cypro in 2000, but haven't been since. Now I joined this group and also bought the new book "Curing Lyme" and am rethinking many of the things I have been doing. My Lyme symptoms have gotten really bad the past 8 or 10 months. I have just ordered a bunch of herbs online, according to Stephen Harrod Buhner's book. I am also going to my local "family" doctor next week to see what HE has to say about it all, and see IF I can get some more samples of a strong antibiotic to take along WITH the herbal pills. So I was just browsing here tonight to see WHAT antibiotics you all have been taking, and came across this post on FLU SHOTS. Your posts make me wonder IF we can trust ANYONE for the right info and treatments with all that is put into things now adays to preserve things, including our food. Jim ###
