Hi,

I just started taking Doxycycline this past Wednesday. I'm on 100mg 2X a day. I started to get nauseous on Saturday.

Is this a reaction to Doxy or is it the Lyme? I was just curious because one of the side effects of Doxy is nausea.

It's not that bad so I can deal with it. Just wanted some feedback. I have noticed a significant decrease in the buzzing sensation that I have been experiencing since August.

Thanks,

Cinder

Hi Cinder. Yep, nausea got me pretty bad too, when the sun wasn't frying me.

Make sure and eat something first. No milk products.

Don't lie down, even though you'll want to because you feel so queasy. If you lie down within 30 minutes you can ulcerate your esophagus or something awful like that... I never met anyone who managed to do that, but just the sound of it kept me from diving into my bed.

I found it was best to sit in a big easy chair, just kind of motionless, till it passed. Sometimes this would be half an hour to an hour. Sip some ginger ale or something to calm your stomach.

At work, not so easy, though I work sitting down (at a desk!)...

It does get better as you get used to it. And it does a world of good, as you're already seeing.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Michelle

doxy is really hard on the stomach. What I do is eat a little bit, then take my meds, then eat some more. I was only on doxy for a month 100mg 3x day but my skin felt like it was burning off (we had a hot summer in cali) so she switched me to mino. I am still on the same dosage and I still have nausea-pretty badly..but eventually you will get used to it.

You have to eat A LOT of food, then drink a LOT of water, then takr the Doxy. Why are you taking the tiny weenie dose? It should be double that!

Ditto everything WildCondor said.
I'm on 200mg bid doxy myself. I got worse--headaches and vertigo--during the three weeks I was on your dose. I saw immediate improvement once I upped the dosage. Dr. Burrascano says your dosage of doxy won't penetrate the blood/brain barrier, nor is the doxy bactericidal in low doses.

Don't trust sunblock. It won't come close to preventing sunburn while on this. You must cover with clothing every inch of skin that you don't want fried--AND I MEAN FRIED!!

When I've not ingested enough food with the doxy, I've felt as though I was going to die--and didn't much care if I did. It's an awful feeling.

And don't forget to take plenty of acidophilus tablets or you'll become a ball of yeast.

Good luck!

Yes! When you are on Doxycycline do not go in the sun, even with clothes on. When i was on it last summer, I had on SPF 50, a big sunhat, shades, white pants and a long sleeved shirt, and it burned me through my clothes. You have to stay indoors or totally in the shade. The sunburn came so fast. I was sea kayaking across a lake and my hands started tingling. The nerve pain kept up for 3 days even after I got out of the sun. Even on hazy days, it burned me...driving in the car was just as bad, had to totally cover up and use an umbrella like Wacko Jacko. Its awful to be on Doxy in the summer! or anytime actually! Good luck u guys!
