Hello. I am looking for some direction if possible. I was tested for Lyme, and the dr said it was negative. When I got a copy of the test results, the only thing I question is that band P58 AB is positive on the WB test. Everything else was absent. Does this mean that I do not have to worry about Lyme? The only time I ever recall having a tick on me was 13 yrs ago, behind my right ear. That is now where a stabbing pain originates at different times, which is one reason the dr checked for lyme. The other thing they are looking at is Fibromyalgia. But I am curious about the Positive band and what does that mean. The dr didn't explain. Can anyone help explain this where I can understand? Thanks.

Hi and welcome!

I can't help you with the band interpretation, but I can tell you that quite a few of us don't remember being bitten, so that you could have been bitten another time, but not know.

Also, testing for Lyme is very iffy. It's as much a clinical diagnosis as one specifically made by testing.

Fibromyalgia is considered by many, to be a symptom rather than a diagnosis.

Others will be along, I'm sure. Check out the Newbie Links. (had trouble pasting them over here)

You really need to have been tested by the recommended labs and have a Lyme Literate Doctor (LLMD) to get help. Sure sounds like Lyme to me.

Good luck exploring this very complex disease. This board is a life saver.

Best,
hopeful123

Get thee to an LLMD. It is the only way you will ever know.

Lyme tests are NOT accurate some labs are more accurate than others (like IGENEX) ....

But even then lyme can be diagnosised clinically.

Lyme disease has many symptoms in common with many different illnesses... multiple scolerosis (spelling?) Fibromyalgia (spelling?) Lupos (spelling?) Chronic fatigue syndrome and probaly others that my exhausted brain can not remember.

I am just a lyme patient. But I think you should see a lyme literate dr.

Because if you do have lyme in my expereince you will probaly will not be diagnosed or given adequate treatment anywhere else.

If you would like to please post in seeking a dr.

Post the area you are in and your email

(We do not post drs names on this board because their are polical issues surrounding lyme and they are attacking our lyme drs. and trying to take their license away)

Best Wishes [Smile]

yeah, I agree with the above. Please find a doctor who really inderstands tick born illnesses (TBDS). You can have Lyme and other TBDs and never test positive. Your symptoms point to lyme, but it is a rocky road to travel. Find a Lyme Literate MD and you'll save yourself a TON of money in the long run.

Oakes, Welcome to this 24/7 LYME support group board!

Which lab tested you? Igenex, MD labs, or Bowen are the leading LYME DIAGNOSTIC labs in USA.
Here's TREEPATROL's and tincup's combination newbie links. Go here & look at the pages Tree has put together...extensive info here on meaning of each number & what it means!

SUBJECT line: please be more specific, example,
positive 58 on western blot; need meaning. Please edit/PENCIL icon and copy/paste the title there I typed. chose edit to send.

We have 3-4 FULL SCREENS of post/replies daily so the better you address your topic, the more people will join in to give you answers. We just don't have time to read ALL posts/replies.

OH, please have short 6-8 lines of text and DOUBLE space in between for us neuro lymies who can't read as is ok! Thanks for doing in future.
http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/029917.html

Print off the links then check them off as you read as you could spend
several months reading all of this.

print & read Dr. Barrascono's 2005 info first; you will come back to this
often.

Extensive info in Treepatrol's newbie links about the meaning of WESTERN BLOT IGM/IGG test results from Igenex! Be sure to read or print this info IF Igenex tested you ok!

Also, see Cheryl's extensive web sites on: LD DIAGNOSIS, SYMPTOMS, & TREATMENT ... wonderful! Read the area on CO-INFECTIONS! You
could have from 1-12 other illnesses that tick is carrying...lyme, malaria, etc.

If you are showing symptoms of co-infections, I would like to suggest being tested for co-infections when you have LYME western blots done. It isn't cheap!! But if you are positive, you can treat the co-infections first, and then work on LYME symptoms.

from LOU to Betty on LONG web links and Thank You Lou!:
"If you hit the return key in the middle of a link, I don't think it will be clickable anymore. An alternative that maybe Betty should be telling people about is the tiny url website. I have it on my tool bar at the top of the page and use it for
those incredablylongwebsiteaddresses.

All you have to do is ask tiny url to produce a short version, which it will do with a unique address, which you then use instead in your post. Works just the same when clicked! Here is the website, spread the word!

You could also have another tick or flea borne disease, like bartonella. The tests for bart aren't too good either- only test for 3 species- that's 3 seperate tests.

Igenix is a good lab. Personally I don't think quest or unilab or labcorp are much good for lyme tests.

Might be very worth your while to see a good LLMD for an antibiotic trial. Some one with experience in treating what we call co-infections, but in your case might be a primary infection. There is a lot you can tell from reactions to a trial. Lyme- usually you herx (feel much worse at first) but with bart you probley don't really herx.

Fibromyalgia is the pitts. I hope you do find a right direction.

IMO, Fibromyalgia (FMS) is nothing but a list of the symptoms of late-stage Lyme Disease.

I got nowhere with FMS for 17 yrs. until being finally diagnosed with Lyme. Now I am getting some improements with correct treatment.
