Continuing on amoxicillin 3x a day and beginning doxy (really slowly, because of extreme herx when amoxi was begun). I'd appreciate any suggestions or comments. Thanks!

Hi there, Grateful.

1. Eat with at least a semi-full stomach.
2. Don't lie down for 30 minutes after taking.
3. Take lots of probiotics - spaced out at least 2 hours on either side of your antibiotics.
4. Avoid milk products/dairy.
5. THE SUN IS YOUR ENEMY.

Can't stress No. 5 enough, with spring around the corner. Don't count on sunscreen to be of help -- cover up, instead. Hands will burn too. FINGERNAILS will burn right through the fingernail.

Just the simple act of driving around town on a sunny day will fry your arms and hands. So be ultra careful.

For its drawbacks, including herxes, doxy can really knock some spirochete butt DOWN!

Good luck and post away with any questions or just let us know how you're doin!

Michelle

No real advice for you-- I just started treatment -- but my first round of abx was oral doxy 400, and I had an *unbelievably* bad herx... I had to stop, finally, after 3 weeks... but I feel a heck of a lot better overall now than before I started the doxy, so it must have done something right!

I say give yourself permission to be laid flat by the herx if need be....

Grateful, welcome, & I'll copy some of my newbie info here ... towards the bottom is info on NOIR, no infra red sunglasses, sun sensitivities info. Be sure to read that ok to protect yourself.

Welcome to this 24/7 LYME support group board!
Here's TREEPATROL's and Tincup's combination newbie links.

http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/029917.html

Print off the links then check them off as you read as you could spend several months reading all of this.

print & read Dr. Barrascono's 2005 info first; you will come back to this often.
Extensive info in Treepatrol's newbie links about the meaning of WESTERN BLOT IGM/IGG test results from Igenex! Be sure to read or print this info IF Igenex tested you ok!

Also, see Cheryl's extensive web sites on: LD DIAGNOSIS, SYMPTOMS, & TREATMENT...wonderful!
Read the area on CO-INFECTIONS! You could have from 1-12 other illnesses that tick is carrying...lyme, malaria, etc.

If you are showing symptoms of co-infections, I would like to suggest being tested for co-infections when you have LYME western blots done. It isn't cheap!! But if you are positive, you can treat the co-infections first, and then work on LYME symptoms.

EYE SENSITIVIES & NOIR, no infrared sunglasses info., 2-28-06 updated

YES, I have what you have! Are you on doxy too? That made my extreme eyes
200% MORE sensitive than they we were earlier.

I learned a lot about eye sensitivity/lighting on
www.marshallprotocol.com board.

Look for AUSSIE BARB'S EAST FINDER and then eyes/sunglasses, etc. Wealth of info there.

I ordered the NOIR sunglasses. 2-26-06 corrected wrong email to:
http://www.noir-medical.com/noir_amber.htm

You will need 2% amber and 10% amber ... Style no. 901 and 910.
1-800-521-9746 TOLL- FREE

mention you have lyme and marshall protocol, they will give you 20% off!
Also they have been kind enough to replace the SCRATCHED LENSES & BROKEN BOWS! How's that for service?

I don't drive often at night, but I can wear NOIR's 901 lenses at night while
driving; it creates soft candle lights coming at me...tolerable. NOT to wear in
town with all the action of people crossing where they shouldn't be, etc.

from LOU to Betty on LONG web links and Thank You Lou!:
"If you hit the return key in the middle of a link, I don't think it will be clickable anymore. An alternative that maybe Betty should be telling people about is the tiny url website. I have it on my tool bar at the top of the page and use it for those incredablylongwebsiteaddresses.

All you have to do is ask tiny url to produce a short version, which it will do with a unique address, which you then use instead in your post. Works just the same when clicked! Here is the website, spread the word!

http://tinyurl.com/

3-1-06, fyi, I tried dragging tinyurl to my toolbar without success, so that's why I currently have LONG addresses vs. short tiny ones! I'll keep trying.

I had terrible stomach pain from the doxy after about two weeks on it. stayed on it for 24 days and quit. It was worse when I took tetracycline for 28 days, but hung in there.

No abx NOW. Just good ole natural herbs. Feel much better.

Hope you find what works for you too.

Hey
Doxy has worked well for me but been a challange on my stomach.

Make sure to down the doxy with as much water as possible.

I found I can't not lay down for at least 2 hours after taking it or I get indigestion burn. I arrange to pillows so I am still in bed but snoozing laying up. [sleepy]

Take care

They make a new Doxy now called Doryx, which is easy on the stonach, but much more expensive.
My co-pay was $50.00 instead of $20.00.

It was the first thing I was on for 2 months. I had no herxing, but after about 6 weeks the fatigue that plagued me for over a decade was gone, so was the joint pain!

How I wish I felt that way now. Am on IV rocephin and Flagyl, doesn't seem to be doing anything, and it's been almost 2 months.

Good Luck!
Jill

Don't over use any abx, doxy or whatever. NOT good for your total system.

Spirochetes are killed very well by many herbs also, WITHOUT the bad side effects.

PM me IF you want to.

Hope you won't have to stay on doxy very long. It's one of the hardest on the stomach, but a necessary evil to make sure you clear ehrlichiosis and/or Lyme.

Grateful:

Good handle. Shows you appreciate what you have in life, even with all of its setbacks.

Take care of your body, you won't get another one in THIS system we have to live in. I didn't take care of mine when I was younger and now that I am in my twilight years, I sure wish I had.

TRY to get into herbs as soon as possible. I was never into herbs till last fall, November, but since I have been on them, it is like a miracle, how much better I feel overall than when I had abx.

Like I reported earlier, the Tetracycline is a LOT tougher on your stomach than Doxycyline, but the doxy is also very tough, not only on your stomach but your whole system.

The herbs, for the most part, work on a different principle than antibiotics.

The abx have a place for a short time, but as we know, those that regulate these controlled drugs, do NOT recommend ANY long term use; for many reasons.

You can do well with abx; but you will do better with herbs AND abx, then herbs ONLY.

TRY it you'll LIKE IT.

Make sure you eat alot of food and drink alot of liquids, and THEN take the pill, then eat some more. Do not lie down or get in bed, stay up, walk around for atleast an hour. No spicy foods, and stay totally out of the sun, even while driving your car you can get severely burned. I got burned through my clothes it was really bad. I had tingling, numbness for 2 weeks from just one exposure while kayaking in the sun w/o gloves on...oh my that pain!
Stay in the shade and eat alot even if you are already nauseous.

You will do fine, I have the one of the most sensitive bellies on here, and I was able to take it. [Razz]
