Went to Emergency Room with severe eardrum pain, pain went thru jaw and down neck. I am on last week #8 of rocephin for neuro lyme. Had head pain above ear for 1 day then low noise in ear took ear drops thought it was wax and 2 hrs. later in E.R. for unbelievable pain..I thought the eardrum was going to burst! The Doc sent me home saying there was pressure behind it, no infection etc. Anyone have this as a herxing problem? Only lasted 6hrs. gave me strong pain meds, said it would feel better if it did burst.
Hopefully it was a weird herx..please reply if it happened to you..thanks!!

Hi NKim,
I also get awful earraches. If I didn't have them lookd at all the time, Iw ouldn't believe it wasn't an ear infection...but no!

When I have a herx, the earache is up there with horrible pain, with headache and neckpain.

I think if doc says it's not an infection then it is prob the lyme inflammation of the trigeminal nerves.

When you go off rocephin will you be on orals?

How have your herx on rocephen been otherwise?
Best,
Kim

Hi Kim, I totally relate. It's a herx in my case, even though I had it for weeks/ months.

I don't take abx, no one ever prescribed it for me. I'm only on herbs, but I know it's a herx because eardrums stoppped aching recently and now I herx differently (now is air hunger + jitterness).

My ear pains were never as strong as yours, but I know what you mean when you say they seem to be about to burst. Awful feeling.

I think taking lots of cleansers helped me (chitosan, chlorella, vit C).

I also could hear my own blood circulation in certain positions (low murmur), then low frequency sounds (imaginary or not, I don't know).

I developed sound sensitivity, and I'm still not well on that, but not too bad either.

So, ear pressure for me = herxing.
Sound sensitivity for me = lyme symptom.

But that's my own theory!

Hope you find the right cleansers for you.
Selma

High ear pressure was one of my first Lyme symptoms. It felt like driving up a mountain only the ears wouldn't pop to relieve the pressure. I understand the horrible feeling.

Mine went away on its own before I even started antibiotics. Now the only time I get it is when there is a severe weather change.

It will go away!!! Blessings. Hiker

I get these also when herxing,rt ear, neck and migrain like headache. Also clicking noise in that ear. Had these before I knew I had lyme. Now, with herx. Dr never see's any infection. I also don't do antibotics.

Sometimes I can put herbal and garlic eardrops in and it helps some. They are really hard to handle. Hang in there.

If I had to name a "worst" symptom, this would be it.

For a year I suffered with unbearable ear, jaw, neck and throat pain, with ear noises and pressure--unfortunately since I have a history of sinus problems from allergies, it was dismissed.

I couldn't get a doctor to believe just how awful it hurt. The only thing that helped some was strong pain medicine.

I had to go to the emergency room for the first time in my life with this. I was taking antibiotics for a sinus infection. Even the nice ER doctor chalked it up to sinus symptoms. But it's worse than that, I said. He said it could also be from the reactivated Epstein Barr that my lab work from that month had shown.

I think it may have been a herx.

I only knew that when my facial and ear nerves and muscles started spazzing out, MOVING, it was something else.

Now, after 5 weeks on antibiotics, it's much better. The twitching and pressure and noises are still there, but the pain is less.

When the buzzing and whining and alien tambourine noises stop, I will consider myself cured!!!

I feel for you. This is very bad.

I have terrible ear pain right now, going to the doctor at 4, my guess is no infection, but both ears hurt like crazy. I often have ear pressure, but not this bad. I really just want to go for one month feeling normal again.

Yes, with each herx, I get it. I get it in my right ear, going down my neck into my shoulder and up into my head.
I have SO much pressure, I can hear my heartbeat in my ear when I lay down on just my R side.

I've been having horrible pains in my ears and sensitivity to sound for awhile now. No doctor has ever found anything. Today, at the LLMD, they gave me a shot of something in the keister that somewhat relieved the pressure.

Otherwise, a heat pack on the pase of my neck provided me with a little relief at times.
