i am trying to get any information on lyme as this is what Dr. M has dx me with. I just got back from seeing him on wed. After two years of being really sick I started doxy...within a week i felt great...after my visit with Dr. M he replaced the doxy with Ketek and Flagyl. I have been on them for five days.....i feel worse now then when this all started....basically most of my symptoms are back...but now all at once and really strong....my legs are very week and feel like they are full of cement....my muscle are twitching like pop rocks going off everwhere...i am jerking and exhausted to the point of not being able to function....this really sucks!!! Just wondering if you guys think this is a herx?
Thanks for any advice or opinions....

I had similar experience after stopped Doxy and switched on Ketek/Tini.
I did get better after finished first round of Ketek/Tini, which was 28 days.
However, in retrospect, I thought Doxy may attack something other than just Bbs.
Those include Babs, Bart, ehrich?
Wondering Doxy/Ketek/Tini.could be better?

Oh yes! Sounds very much like a herx to me! Be careful not to overdo it though. I hope your LLMD is one who believe in backing off the meds when the herx is very severe.
We don't want to hear that you landed yourself in the hospital!
Let your dr's office know how you're doing, OK?

It sure seems like a herx! Thats a good sign that the meds are doing their job, and hitting their target! Good! Keep it up! I always get the twitching when I herx, its the first indicator for me. hang in there, you are on the right track!

Lesley, sounds like a herx to me too. As stated, meds are busy killing things off for you.
We are all different; no 2 folks are alike, and how long it will be like; only God knows.
When I started doxy/biaxin pulsing 8-04, immediately my right arm was hurting 24/7 like it was used for a punching bag. This went on for 18-19 months straight without relief. Hang in there.
See herx info below from my newbie's info links:
Welcome to this 24/7 LYME support group board!
Here's TREEPATROL's and Tincup's combination newbie links.
Print off the links then check them off as you read as you could spend several months reading all of this.
print & read Dr. Burrascono's 2005 info first; you will come back to this often.
Extensive info in Treepatrol''s newbie links about the meaning of WESTERN BLOT IGM/IGG test results from Igenex! Be sure to read or print this info IF Igenex tested you ok!
Also, see Cheryl''s extensive web sites on: LD DIAGNOSIS, SYMPTOMS, & TREATMENT ... wonderful! Read the area on CO-INFECTIONS! You could have from 1-12 other illnesses that tick is carrying...lyme, malaria, etc.
If you are showing symptoms of co-infections, I would like to suggest being tested for co-infections when you have LYME western blots done. It isn''t cheap!! But if you are positive, you can treat the co-infections first, and then work on LYME symptoms.
EYE SENSITIVIES & NOIR, no infrared sunglasses info., 2-28-06 updated YES, I have what you have! Are you on doxy too? That made my extreme eyes
200% MORE sensitive than they we were earlier. I learned a lot about eye sensitivity/lighting on www.marshallprotocol.com board.
Look for AUSSIE BARB'S EAST FINDER and then eyes/sunglasses, etc. Wealth of info there.
I ordered the NOIR sunglasses. 2-26-06 corrected wrong email to:
mention you have lyme and marshall protocol, they will give you 20% off! I'm NOT on MProtocol, but mention it anyway. I was on their new board almost 12 months!
Also they have been kind enough to replace the SCRATCHED LENSES & BROKEN BOWS! How's that for service?
I don't drive often at night, but I can wear NOIR's 901 lenses at night while driving; it creates soft candle lights coming at me...tolerable. NOT to wear in town with all the action of people crossing where they shouldn't be, etc.
from LOU to Betty on LONG web links and Thank You Lou!: "If you hit the return key in the middle of a link, I don't think it will be clickable anymore. An alternative that maybe Betty should be telling people about is the tiny url website. I have it on my tool bar at the top of the page and use it for those incredablylongwebsiteaddresses.
All you have to do is ask tiny url to produce a short version, which it will do with a unique address, which you then use instead in your post. Works just the same when clicked! Here is the website, spread the word!
3-1-06, fyi, I tried dragging tinyurl to my toolbar without success, so that''s why I currently have LONG addresses vs. short tiny ones! I''ll keep trying.

The reason that Dr. M gave me for just getting better on the doxy and not feeling sick was it was only killing off the spirochettes and not the cysts. With the flagyl and ketek both are getting killed off. When these cysts get hit they explode which poisons your system...therefor the herx happens.
I guess i am just wondering if exhaustion and brain fog are considered part of herxing...any thoughts.
thanks

Back in the beginning I was on doxy for 4 months and was getting sicker. Herxes were minimal. I started to feel better when I went on Tetra but on the 3rd & 4th week herxing was severe. It never got that bad again.
Drink lots of water. I found eating fatty foods helped control herxing. I read the fat stimulates bile which in turn removes toxins. I also recommend using podipatches (www.akgnaturals.com)or ebay detox patches, or the ones from Scott's website "betterhealthguy". I use them every night to remove toxins and stop the tingling, vibrating, pinpricks in my feet. Do a search on detox.
