Hi guys--this seems like a simplistic question, but here goes anyway. My 14-year-old daughter is being treated for lyme with IV abx as well as orals. Everything I read says it's so important to drink enough fluids to flush the toxins out of the system. As her treatment continues, however, she gets more and more reluctant to drink anything. It just doesn't taste good to her. She used to be a good water drinker, now she says it tastes bad to her. (We've tried filtered, bottled, you name it.) We're avoiding sugar because of the abx, but we've tried just about everything else--those flavored waters, sugar-free soft drinks, juice combined with club soda, water with a squeeze of lemon or lime, herbal tea--none of it is palatable to her. (She's never been a milk drinker.) The best luck I've had is making fresh-squeezed lemonade sweetened with stevia. She'll drink a bit more of that than other things, but not near the amount of fluids I know she needs. If left on her own, she'd just drink enough to get her pills down. I don't want this to become a power struggle between us. Anybody got some ideas?

Its kinda late and im lyme brained.
But how about ice, making ice pops...not sure if that would get the water into her.
just a thought.

jb,
fyi, you ended up with 2 identical posts. So go to the 2nd one without replies, and edit/PENCIL ICON. Chose the box that says you want to DELETE IT/TEXT....hit enter, and it is totally removed from the board. This way all replies go to your 1st post.
This is a very busy board so we try to eliminate duplicate/triplicate posts as they accidentally happen. It's happened to us all!
Sorry to read this. I've never been on IV, so I can't relate to that & fluid intake.
I LOVE WATER. Thank God since I drink at least 164 oz. daily of it. I loved milk too, but found out in May that I have food allergies and now allergic to:
CASEIN -- cow's milk, egg whites, dairy products, 3 types of cheese plus
GLUTEN - WHEAT products in any capacity.
I'm going to copy/paste some newbie links here especially TREEPATROL'S NEWBIE LINKS. Go there and see if that is addressed in his 20+ pages of links. He adds continually. Print it off so you have it handy to look up a specific issue next time ok.
The only other thing I can think of is IV fluids since she is already hooked up to pump for lyme IV.
I'm not a MD or medical person.
Welcome to this 24/7 LYME support group board!
Here's TREEPATROL's and Tincup's combination newbie links.
Print off the links then check them off as you read as you could spend several months reading all of this.
print & read Dr. Burrascono's 2005 info first; you will come back to this often.
Extensive info in Treepatrol''s newbie links about the meaning of WESTERN BLOT IGM/IGG test results from Igenex! Be sure to read or print this info IF Igenex tested you ok!
Also, see Cheryl''s extensive web sites on: LD DIAGNOSIS, SYMPTOMS, & TREATMENT ... wonderful! Read the area on CO-INFECTIONS! You could have from 1-10 other illnesses that tick is carrying...lyme, malaria, etc.
If you are showing symptoms of co-infections, I would like to suggest being tested for co-infections when you have LYME western blots done. It isn''t cheap!! But if you are positive, you can treat the co-infections first, and then work on LYME symptoms.
EYE SENSITIVIES & NOIR, no infrared sunglasses info., 2-28-06 updated YES, I have what you have! Are you on doxy too? That made my extreme eyes
200% MORE sensitive than they we were earlier. I learned a lot about eye sensitivity/lighting on www.marshallprotocol.com board.
Look for AUSSIE BARB'S EAST FINDER and then eyes/sunglasses, etc. Wealth of info there.
mention you have lyme and marshall protocol, they will give you 20% off! I'm NOT on MProtocol, but mention it anyway. I was on their new board almost 12 months!
Also they have been kind enough to replace the SCRATCHED LENSES & BROKEN BOWS! How's that for service?
I don't drive often at night, but I can wear NOIR's 901 lenses at night while driving; it creates soft candle lights coming at me...tolerable. NOT to wear in town with all the action of people crossing where they shouldn't be, etc.
from LOU to Betty on LONG web links and Thank You Lou!: "If you hit the return key in the middle of a link, I don't think it will be clickable anymore. An alternative that maybe Betty should be telling people about is the tiny url website. I have it on my tool bar at the top of the page and use it for those incredablylongwebsiteaddresses.
All you have to do is ask tiny url to produce a short version, which it will do with a unique address, which you then use instead in your post. Works just the same when clicked! Here is the website, spread the word! http://tinyurl.com/
3-1-06, fyi, I tried dragging tinyurl to my toolbar without success, so that''s why I currently have LONG addresses vs. short tiny ones! I''ll keep trying.
RASH ITCHES -- use ``rubbing alcohol`` on it especially the corners good. Hubby suggested; worked great for me; rash cleared up in 2 days vs. weeks/month

You mentioned she is trying to stay away from sugar, but what about watermelon? I found that when I was heavily medicated and not in the mood for much, watermelon was very soothing to me.
Banana/strawberry/chocolate milkshakes? More yummy than plain ol' milk...
I also like water/club soda with fresh crushed mint and lime. Cucumber water is also refreshing. I usually make a concoction of cucumber slices, watermelon, ice and mint. Yum!
