Maybe you all are familiar with this treatment:
I was desperate recently...I had a raging vaginal yeast infection due to all the antibiotics.
I was taking oral probiotics, but it didn't relieve or prevent the vaginal yeast. I also started taking Diflucan, so this helped knock out the yeast.
I got 2 surgical gloves, filled them with active culture yogurt, then froze the gloves. I suspended the gloves from a freezer rack and pinned the top of the 2 gloves together with a clothespin. I did put a twist-tie on each glove to prevent spilling.
I broke off the fingers as I needed them. I used one every night.
Be sure to let it thaw out partially so you don't get a freezer burn.
This is a fairly cheap treatment. One quart of good yogurt was less than $5 and made lots of "popsicles".
Hope this hint helps you all you ladies!
I think Dr. B. should add this to his notes about the prevention of yeast overgrowth.
Nancy
BTW, don't mess with a basting syringe or funnel to fill the gloves; that's too messy. Pour the yogurt into the glove & squish it around until all the fingers are filled.
Put the "popsicle" in a small dish to partially thaw...it will be messy.

While I must admit that your method is way more fun,I have also used a syringe (w/o the needle of course) to draw up yogurt and shoot it in. Work prety well.

I have read that people in European countries do this all the time. You can but Yogurt at the health food store that has more live cultures than regular yogurt I have been told.

This is not my idea; I found this information on a midwifery forum.
I wonder if freezing would destroy the healthy bacteria in the yogurt. It's possible the fast results I saw were from Diflucan. I felt much better the next morning.

Lyme has so messed up my immune system, I have yeast infections chronically. This is WITHOUT any abx.
I haven't begun treatment for my Lyme yet and I'm scared. I have so much pain and LIVE on Monistat and Diflucan regularly, I don't know what to do... at this point.
I am told by my PCP that he won't order any more Diflican because it's too hard on the liver. I say, "I DON'T CARE!"
He's a man. He hasn't a CLUE what it's like to burn so bad you can't take it anymore. Men don't get it.....(grrr).
Anyway, I have to go and doctor shop to find myself someone who'll order more diflucan. I'm in too much pain...and going broke buying Monistat each week.
I can just imagine how bad it'll be when I start abx.
For now, I'll try the direct approach with the yogurt. I'll begin by taking a trip to the Health Food store and getting myself yogurt with a live active culture.
The popscycle sounds a bit "cool" (brrrrr)...

Try capsules filled with boric acid and placed in the vagina. Do NOT take by mouth- just place one in the vagina daily. You will get much needed relief better than anything else out there! You can get the boric acid OTC at your pharmacy- very inexpensive. It is safe used vaginally!

Hey, how about acidophilus capsules? You can take them orally, sprinkle them on your food or maybe.....
Seriously, I get mine - primadophilus- at the healthfood store. Not terribly expensive. They are slow release so one a day is fine. You can take more than one if needed.
Made all the difference when I was on antibiotics. I take one a day now just to help my immune system.

Don't know if I have the courage to try a popsicle but that's one fine idea.
I open a capsule of aphodophilis and sprinkle. It works really well. I use the kyro-dophillis. haven't tryed any other brands in that area.
When I brush my teeth or use mouthwash I also sprinkle a capsule of apho. It helps keep down the thrush in the mouth.

Ditto...above comment. And sterilize your toothbrush after brushing.
Yeast should not be a prob. IF YOU KEEP THE GOOD GUYS UP...WAY UP...
Probiotics one hour before a meal with a full glass of water. Try to find a refrig. kind with as many "billions" and variety as possible.

Dana, Do you sprinkle the acidophilus and then swallow, or spit out or what? Sorry to be a little gross, but I hadn't thought about using it on the tongue. My naturopath did recommend a tongue scraper which I used for a while but makes me gag.
Marnie, What do you use to sterilize the toothbrush? I know there are UV type of devices, but is there some kind of liquid solution or something easy?
By the way, one of my Lyme pals just puts the capsule of the acidophilus up inside, rather than using the popsicle approach which sounds good. I asked if it dissolved, she said yes but it scared her to death when the weirdly enlarge capsule popped up days later.

Be careful using yogurt. Make sure that you don't also have a bacterial infection. Yogurt will make it grow. I found that Oregacyn Respiratory Health by North American Herb & Spice taken orally keeps both under control and is supposedly killing Lyme and other pathogens with some success. I did have some die off and it got rid of yeast. Jury is still out on whether it kills Lyme. You can also use boric acid powder (not crysals) from the drug store. It is cheap and kills bacteria and yeast. Put about the amount that it would take to fill a 00 gelatin capsule in a yeast medicine applicater. An eyedropper makes it easier, or a small paper cup that you fold on one side and make a spout to pour into the applicater. It is not messy. After clearing up bacteria, it is safe and smart to replace the good bacteria with yogurt or supplements. A probiotic capsule can be inserted instead of yogurt.

JillE Everytime I brush my teeth I use a tongue scraper. The tongue scaper works really great! But if you put it too far back it can make you gag. Have you tryed to just use it on just the front part of your tongue? Not so far back.
If it still makes you gag I bought a couple extra-thick bristle toothbrush's that I also use to scape my tongue. Haven't had thrush for a long time now.Disinfect very well after doing this!
Then I open a cap of apho and sprinkle the whole contents and then swish it around in my mouth.
The kind that tastes the best to me is kyro-dophilis. This took some experimenting because some taste really bad.
Every time you use mouthwash or tootpaste ect... you leave an empty field so to speak. Yeast loves an empty feild and moves right in. So when you sprinkle apho in your mouth this replaces the good flora and hepls keep the thrush away.
Marine is correct to disinfect your toothbrush every time you use it. Otherwise you can re-infect with every use.
I also sprinkle a capsule in my ( private parts too) But is no way I am giving directions for that here.
It does help alot to keep away vag yeast infections.
take care

Hey Dana,
Thanks for the added info. I've read Dr. B's guidelines many times and I know he talks a lot about oral hygiene, but this topic is reminding me that I've been a bit slack. I will get another scraper, try not to gag,and I do brush my tongue.
Dana and Marnie, What do you use to disinfect the toothbrush? I usually pour tea tree oil natural mouthwash on it but I have no idea if that's enough.
Thanks again, Jill

I've been told Diflucan is very hard on the liver, that's why I have not been allowed to use it (due to previous liver damage from an antibiotic).
I've heard good things about many people tolerating Nystatin. I will let them chime in on that.

A trick my gyn taught me was to use a blow dryer on low or no heat setting. After every shower or bath.. .Towel drying just doesn't cut it as far as getting rid of the humidity down there.
Rememeber low or NO heat setting. Don't burn yourself.
