Hello,
My doctor suspects I have colitis due to long term antibiotic treatment. I have red stools and abdominal pain. I go in for a colonoscopy tomorrow to find out for sure. If this is the case, they say the only way to recover is to stop antibiotics for a while.

Has anyone had this experience that they would like to share? How long did you have to stay off antibiotics? Did you try any alternative treatments such as herbs during that time? Do the treatments for C. difficile cause Lyme herxes?

Thanks,
Ms. Myo

Best wishes on your colonoscopy today! When I had my 2nd one, 2 years ago; I had an anesteiologist put me out completely; didn't feel a thing.

1st one, they used IV only, and I was NOT out; I heard his every statement. Betty, you've got to breath; don't hold your breath ... heard that 7 times straight & told him after my test.

I also have C DIFFICILE; discovered this during my 4-20-06 complete body lab testing by my new LLMD in Mss. Bettyg

Just throwing out something to think about here. I am in the process of healing a bleeding lower colon also. I started to get low fevers about a month ago. Then some chills. Then some bloodly mucuss started with some cramping. Then my prostate went, not that you have to worry about that. I had been off abx for 10 weeks and was doing really well. My LLMD and I figured that either ehrichia or bart might be the cause. He put me on doxy and within 3 days things started to improve. after 7 the blood stopped along with the cramping. Not to say that is not c diff but it could also be one of the infections also.

I also have developed burning pain in my colon after long-term abx. And, I also had a colonoscopy today, but it did not show that the abx had damaged the normal mucousal membrane & did not show C Diff.

The doc said you can have colitis pain from reaction to abx without there being C Diff.

They sent a sample in for lab tests. But unless something comes up there, My LLMD is saying it is toxins from dying spirochetes. So, I don't have to stay off abx, but still have to space them because I cannot sleep when the burning pain in my colon gets bad.
