I have had shoulder, head, neck and jaw pain especially bad for 3+ weeks, now. It's mostly coming from the back of my head, neck and right shoulder.
This past week of non-stop headache is driving me up the wall. It feels like a vise on my temples and all the bones in my head and face hurt really bad. It goes down my spine and the whole thing is nauseating.
The chiropractor has helped minimally but I'm afraid to go very often with questionable disks in my neck (and he's a little rough so it takes me a couple of days to get over an adjustment).
I need a new pillow; I think I need it now! Any suggestions where to get one or the type to get? (Preferrably in a store, I cannot try them online.)
(I have tried a tempur-pedic one, in the past, and it was not good at all. I don't know if they have more than one style but this was just wrong.)
Any ideas? Please?
Thanks in advance.

I dont think they carry them in a store but a cervical pillow might help. They make them with regular filling or water inside.
A cervical pillow has a dent in the center so it supposed to keep your neck in a more natural position. Your chiropractor might be able to get you one.
I too have had a crippling neck shoulder arm bugfest {among so many other things I didn't sleep for over a year}. And I learned to use three down pillows layed out in a U shape. It is not without adjustment, but it is my best bet so far.
But I want to tell all to please try the Tempur foam before you buy. I slept on mine for two or three days and then ...WOW...I jumped and sparked and sizzled until I wished I were dead. I couldn't walk into the room with it! My husband had to wrap it up and send it back. I'm not sure the nerve sparks are over.
good luck lymiebean

A good pillow is so hard to find.
Try this: I tend to like the side sleeper as it's a little softer..

Thanks guys,
Azure, I've never seen a water one, I wonder what that would be like.
Sadie, where are the magnets in the pillow? I guess I should go google them. Hmmm...
I kind of do what Lymiebean said and make myself a little nest to sleep in and adjust the support to where I need it.
And you're right the tempur-pedic was a very bad idea, both for the static electricity and that neither side was the right height for the shoulder I like to sleep on.
Julie, I did go google them this morning (not quite as lymebrained as you thought, eh? ) I'm still concerned about not trying it first.
I have tried the foam cervical pillows, tempur-pedic and various and sundry combinations and seem happiest with down, since it's soft enough (and moldable) most time.
I guess when I can drag myself to a store I'll go visit a few pillows and see what's available. (I did google around this morning.)
I thought I could when I was so pi$$ed at mine this morning but all I could do was lay back down too exhausted to do anything at all about it. Pffft... but got my pillows to work the next 2 times.
Nothing seems to be making me too comfortable or happy lately. I'm sorry to be constantly posting whiny annoying subjects.
Thank you all for your replies.

I used to have the C4 etc problems to the point where it was either Lyme or surgery! One smart neurosurgeon opted for Lyme!
The pillows I do never want to live without are the buckwheat hull pillows. I have made so many of them - people still call and ask if I can make one. We bought huge sacks of the buckwheat hull and I fill them into strong fabric pillow cases with tight weave.
You go to bed, arrange your pillow exactly where you find your comfort and it will stay there until you change it. You do not get a hot head, no sweating as in plastics and other fabrics or foam (probably the worst), no feather sensitivities if that's a problem.
If I go on a longer trip to Europe, a spare pillow is already there for me at my friend's house. My friends use no other pillows any longer either. And the Germans are known for their down pillows.
I highly recommend trying one. You can purchase them readily and they are not expensive. Just make sure they are not too tightly packed, so that you have enough leeway to do with it as you please for your head and neck.
Take care.
P.S. I never had the surgery, and stopped all neck manipulations, and no one is ever going to crack my neck again as long as I can help it. Your neck can be adjusted without cracking. Chiropractic has come a long way. I have never had a problem after I did away with Lyme.

Thank you Gigi,
I have been curious about the buckwheat hull pillows. I just didn't know anyone that tried one, now I do.
I appreciate the recommendation and advice on them. I'd like to try one and they have them in stores so I can check it out first.
(I am have absolutely no reservations about laying down on a sample bedding display and trying one. either. )
At least, if it doesn't work out it wouldn't cost me a lot of money I don't really have. (always a plus.)

Hi true! I tried the Tempur-pedic(sp) thing, too. No good.
The Tempsoma pillow from Sam's was the best I found. I couldn't take the buckwheat hulls. I even found that sometimes I sleep better on the Tempsoma mattress cover, even without a pillow. ( I sleep wierd on my stomach)
I hope you find one that works for you.
