Just diagnosed with lyme, Dr.put me on 100mg Doxycycline twice a day for three weeks. Is this enough to kill the disease? I,ve been having symptoms for about six weeks which started the same time as my rash.

NO
More, smarter people than ME, to follow,,, BUT that is NOT enough for the knock out punch. Get thee to a LLMD(a REAL one) ASAP!!!
OR find Dr. B's guidelines in article section of this site and convince your doc it isnt enough. Might have easier time of pulling his teeth(with a pliers),,
,thats why I advocate a real LLMD that will properly treat you the FIRST time properly and get rid of this crap PRONTO!!! It is NOT a disease for the faint of heart!!!IB--just don--

Assuming you're a girl of average size, double that dose to 400 mg. a day and then you're in the ballpark.
It is essential that you be tested for co-infections. If your doctor is not "lyme-literate" he will be unlikely to know much about this. However, chances of getting one of the co-infections such as bartonella, ehrlichia, babesia, are really QUITE good - not just remote possibilities.
If you're not able to get to an LLMD (lyme literate doctor), perhaps you can call up IGeneX (see their website by the same name) and ask for a co-infection panel appropriate to your area; they'll send you a test kit. But please don't skip this step - some of these infections are as bad as lyme itself.
Post often and let us know how you're doing!

I wasn't treated for 16 years. Doxy at 100mg twice a day was MORE than I could take.
But in your case, you have a good chance to get this now and get it gone, which probably means at least a higher dose and/or a longer treatment time.
Your doctor probably won't see it that way, though, unless he is Lyme literate.
It's so good to hear of someone who was diagnosed and treated early! Best wishes to you!

Hi Queen
200mg of doxi is called the Standard Dose-- this is the dose that testing has been done on-
the Standard Dose will kill most germs- Not Lyme--
My Sister in PA got bit and had the bullseye- She Insisted on higher dose-400mg aday for 2 months-
Now 3 yrs later she is OK--
Your time is running out- for lyme to be easier to treat--You must take action or you will be a regular on LN --Jay--

Hey that sounds familiar. Same as my dr. said and then I would be cured.
DIDN'T HAPPEN!
Went to another dr. that was more lyme knowledgeable and got 400 gm. a day for 2 months. Herxed after that for a few days. Am 1 month into that and have improved a lot. Much stronger with few headaches little dizzyness.
Am going to a LLMD in Mo. in Jan.

Sorry, that should have been 400 mg. 400 gm might have sent me over the edge.

my weight is 105, have very small frame. Only 5'4'. I know that sounds small but I'm 41 and very active and healthy until now. I've maintained the same weight all my life. Does Weight really matter? I thought most adults have similar size organs and thats how meds worked.

Up for this-Sure would like to know if dosage can be geared to weight too! I am currently on 400mg/day and don't weigh much more...like to know if I can lower my dose in order to stay on longer w/ PCP's blessing!
