I am currently on rifampin for bart-I also have babs. My LLMD thought it was an acute infection, so I did 3 weeks mepron, and 2 3 week courses of art. Well, it is actually back worse-I had few babs sx before, now I have chest pain, night sweats and palps. I can't take mepron until I finish 6 more weeks of rifampin. Anyone know any good herbal protocols for Babs-thanks

Shoney,

Hopefully others will reply since I've only been treated for two months so can't vouch for the validity, but I know that my LLMD uses the Zhang protocol for Babs.

This includes Allicin, Circulation P, Artemisiae and AI#3. I'm sure the Buhner supporters will give his protocol.

I only know of Zhang since I was started with those four while doing antibiotics. Good luck in your search.

Shoney,

Buhner writes about artemisinin and artemesia for babesia (in his book Healing Lyme, which I highly recommend). He is also recently recommending cryptolepis (also spelled cryptolepsis) for babesia, which can be ordered from Bear Creek Herbs. I have also read about tumeric (also spelled turmeric) for babesia.

I might still have babesia, I'm not sure. I just ordered cryptolepis and will report on that after I've tried it.

Maria reminded me I forgot to post my experience with cryptolepis.

It actually didn't do anything for me, but it's possible I don't have babesia anymore anyway. Thought I'd give it a try, just in case.

Herbal therapy for Babesiosis is an "alternative" therapy that I endorse with all my heart*)!*)!! It works!!! Seems to work best coupled with Mepron for most people, but alone Artemisia has sent some local peoples Babs into full remission!!! GREAT stuff*)!*)!*)! Doc Z will also talk on the phone with you if you have any questions you can track him down himself at his company and talk with him= he is helpful!!!

I'm already taking Mepron 2 tsp daily and zith 500mg daily. Should I ask LLMD about adding artemisinin back in, too? I was on it several months ago and when I stopped taking it to take Flagyl, the babs sx crept back. I'd really like to ditch this babs once and for all!

Penn92,

When I was taking Mepron & Zith, my LLMD said it was ok to take artemisinin also.

P.S. I graduated from Penn in '92 (grad school)!

My son has been on mepron, zith, and art (3 weeks on/1 off) for 6 months or so. He told his llmd he notices he feels worse the week he is off the art.

Jason,

I don't know which artemesia may be best, but my LLMD recommends Zhang. I do know it's more expensive than going to some of the places mentioned...ie 1st Chinese, etc.

The Zhang dosage my LLMD has me on for babs is 400 mg, one pill, three times a day. But if you are getting it from a different source, the dosage may be very different.

I've been on it for just barely over four months, but haven't been on other abx specifically for babs. I am taking Minocycline at this time with it, so I'm not going totally herbal. Just that I haven't taken to usual babs abx as of yet.

Doseages for the actual herb Artemesia are usually much higher than doses of the extract Artemesinin. Make sure you don't get them confused.

Other herbs which might help include spilanthes and prickly ash.

Also, heparin or some sort of enzyme such as Wobenzyme or Nattokinase etc would probably be a good idea as well.

Hubby did 10 days of the Cryptolepsis while on quinine -- think it did cause more severe herx.

Also might consider massage -- think this makes the babs come out of hiding.

This is not medical advice, but is based on hubby's experiences.

Bea Seibert

Something else you could try that we discovered by accident -- Relora -- this is a patented combo of Phelodendron and Magnolia. Is usually prescribed for weight loss as it regulates cortisol, but has helped hubby greatly with sleep. Take 1 or 2 capsules at bedtime.

The Magnolia capsules by themselves are much stronger than the Relora and work more on the babs as well as regulating acetylcholine. Magnolia is listed as an herb for malaria in some sources.

Hi,

I have been on the Mepron, Zith and Art combo for Babs several months.
I take all three once per day and in 2 days I herx.

Is this a good or bad thing?

I have taken Zith in the past with no symptoms of a herx or anything else.

I have read about [woohoo] the side affects from Art.
What are side affects compared to a herx?

Thanks
BJG
