It's been awhile since I've written. I am in my 4th month of antibiotics. I have something strange happening to my forefinger and need to check it out with you guys.
The joint in my one finger has become very swollen and extremely painful...to the point where I can't use it.
I have always had painful joints. I noticed a little swelling and pain in this finger when I first got sick, but it's much worse. My LLMD said maybe its "degenerative disease".
I didn't think to ask her if its resulting from the lyme. Anyone experience this? Thanks

Hi. I never had any joint issues before lyme, but i have one particular joint, the first joint of my index finger, that seems to be particularly sore and stiff. So I'd say that's a yes. When I was first diagnosed, I had more of the joint pain all over the place, then improvement, now a flare-up, and the flare-up seems to be more concentrated in this particular joint. Weird. Carol

I have swelling in my index finger right on the knuckle. I've had Lyme for a very long time and that pain has been around at least 16-17 yrs.
It usually does not bother me, but from time to time it flares up.
I hope yours will get better once you get the spirochetes on the run!
Next time ask your dr if you should have it X-rayed.

I hope the swelling goes down. You could be stirring up those ketes. I had some fluid retention when I was in treatment. My fingers would feel swollen & stiff but not too shockingly swollen. Some of us lymies do get swollen joints for sure. Could effect any area in your body-not just the kness.

For any of you who mentioned symptoms in the forefinger, is this finger by any chance one you're using to click a mouse at the computer? Question being: are you using this finger repetitively?
Here's my humble theory: Lyme makes us anaerobic. Aerobic activity it doesn't do. Therefore we could get into recovery trouble in any place where we're doing work in our bods, since we won't recover well with an anaerobic organism onsite.
Does this make any sense?

The first knuckle on most of my fingers are going bad on me. First swelling, then deformity. My understanding is it is calcium deposits. The rheumie calls it osteoarthritis.
My right hand has been the only one affected until this week, my left thumb is now swollen.
I don't buy the "wear and tear" theory for 2 reasons.
1-I'm not right handed! 2-I had no joint problems at all until lyme.
I have been diagnosed with RA but so far, the RA joints are unaffected.
Seems to be lots of possible treatments for RA, but none for Osteo. I am taking lots of joint supplements hoping to curb the amount of damage.
Of course, I believe lyme is the culprit.

Nope. It's on my left hand and I am right-handed.

i've been a consistent computer user for years -- never had issues with this until lyme. in fact, it's kind of like a barometer of how i'm doing: it's the last joint ache to go away... when i flare up, i feel it there.
