Hey there!*)!*!
I used the pain to deepen my spirituality. I don't take pain medication of any kind and I was in horrible pain for years. I found that after a while, I could have a wonderful day even in severe pain. HOWEVER, I was still working on agony. When in agony, nothing could really make it a good day. I was still stuck there. BUT I did learn to resolutely look at the positive and do my best to enjoy life and be of service to others every day, regardless of intense pain.
Now I have only a minute of pain a month thank god and it is very mild- a flash in my left knee.
Pain is no fun. If you can take pain meds and believe in them, do take them.
I wish I believed I could take them without trouble but I didn't and don't trust myslf to take pain pills with that amount of pain I was having. I WOULD take pain pills if I was in surgery or broke an arm or some LIMITED hting- but the Lyme pain was possibly endless, ongoing- and I didn't trust myself with forever!!!
Pain may feel like it will kill you but, yup I am going to write it- if it doesn't kill you it will make you stronger*!)!!! Seriously, Hang in there*)!*! Best wishes, Sarah

Pills suck, but sometimes there's nothing else.
What has helped me--
Ambien for sleep. Hydrocodone for pain.
Also, for pain: butalbital, acemtaminaphen and caffeine. I think the brand name is Fioricet? Butalbital is a weak barbiturate, but it's not a controlled substance so doctors may be more willing to prescribe it. You're not supposed to take it with doxycycline, I think it interferes with it being absorbed.
It's used for tension headaches.
Maybe your doctor whould let you drop your antibiotic dose temporarily.
Pain is the worst of my symptoms. I hope you can find something to get you through.

During the years I have had lyme there have been several periods when the pain was so bad I could not sleep. (These were almost always when I was off abx or in search of an LLMD. The worst was for 9 sleepless nights (shoulder pain which turned out to be frozen shoulder-caused by lyme inflammation) (My local doc wanted to give me steroid shots-luckily by then I knew better)
I ended up seeing an LLMD acupuncturist. He did acupuncture and prescribed ice and bromelain and turmeric capsules, and physical therapy (electrical stimulation machine until I could move and then excercises) (as well as anti-inflammatory diet-lots of wild salmon, etc, no sugar, white flour, you can find lists online.
I can remember deep bone and muscle pain that was almost as bad, and the only thing that helped was getting back on abx--but eventually, after years of different abx, the pain is pretty much gone, and only damage is to one knee and eyes.
I have only had acupuncture that one period, but without it I do not know how long I could have held out. Just believe, if you stick with treatment from a real LLMD, you should get better.
Best wishes.

I have chronic fatigue issues, vision problems, in addition to pain. The pain is joint pain and also ocular pain, which is the most difficult to combat. I am on Darvocet, prn for pain. I have been on minocycline for the lyme and it appears to be helping additionally with the pain issues. Hope that you improve and the pain subsides.

pain is difficult enough during the day, but at night, that's a different story. i am taking amytripriptaline (sp?) 10 mg. for pain and to help promote sleep. i also take nsaid for achey pains and even some pain like urinary tract infections. a small amount of sonata for sleep, but at most a couple of times a week is all.
everybody is different when it comes to pain. you can ask others for input, but it's really best not to compare yourself to someone else, imo.
good luck in finding a solution for yourself.
