I am having a terrible time getting treated where I live.
In the meantime I am constantly put on a variety of antibiotics for respiratory infections and bladder infections.
Recently, something unusual is happening to me. I took 10 days amoxicillin about 1 month ago-
day one I got serious stiff neck that wouldn't respond to muscle relaxers and continued until 2 days after antibiotics stopped.
Now- on second round of antibiotic treatment for bronchial infection (zithromax Z-pack) my neck got stiff and hurts again -mostly on the left side, which is where most of my neurological symptoms affect me.
The question is-Is this a herx thing,
and how has it affected my lyme to have been on these tiny doses of antibiotics for the last several years?

I took antibiotics all my life for strep throat, sinus infections, urinary track infections and they always made me better until I got really sick.
I went to a doctor in 2004 for terrible earaches and a stiff neck. The bones behind my ears hurt. She put me on a 10 day course of Ceftin, and I felt somewhat better.
Then the pain came back, so I went back to see her.
My heart rate and blood pressure were really high, and that's all she really cared about. I had waited for an hour and a half to see her and I was in terrible pain.
She put me on amoxicillin this time. After three days, I ended up in the emergency room for the first time in my life--my husband thought I had meningitis. I was almost incoherent.
The ER doc put me on Biaxin, another week of misery, yada yada yada, long story, bad doctors, bad craziness and here we are in 2007.
I guess all this was herxing. Why? Lots of germs? I guess. Sometimes I think my immune system sees everything--drugs, vitamins, food, EXCEPT the Lyme, bartonella, whatever all this is, and attacks it.
(I'm having a pretty bad mental health day today. Sorry. And my fingers and face are twitching.)
But I'd say that a stiff neck from ABX is a herx. I use heat to make it feel better.
