One of Dr. C's patients has asked this email to be forwarded. Please keep him in your prayers. (NOTE: This is not me that saw him -- I'm just forwarding the information.)

Subject: Licensing Board Issue
Date: Fri, 8 Jun 2007 09:53:02 -0700 (PDT)

To all tick illness support groups:

I saw Dr. C last week and he shared with me that he was turned in to the state licensing board by another physician, due to a patient he was treating with IV antibiotics who developed a serious complication/side effect. He will need to appear on Friday July 13th at 12:30 pm, to respond to the complaint.

He was told he could bring other physicians along, to address the validity of his practices. He said Dr. Masters will likely be too ill to attend, but he has another colleague in KC he may invite. He plans to consult with a lawyer, but I don't think he can bring one along.

He brought this up as a prayer request, after praying wtih me. As a committed Christian, he believes in the power of prayer and God's presence. I asked if it would be OK for me to spread the word, and he said fine. I also asked if he needed patients to attend, but it will be a closed session (so no need for our physical presence).

So, PLEASE KEEP DR. C IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS, especially on July 13th.

Oh My God, He is our LLMD.

If it wasn't for him I don't know where my family will be. We are scheduled to see him on July 18th.

Prayers will be flowing for sure and I will get my extended family praying too.

Add my prayers too and let us know what else we can do. A Lyme patient I know was helped by IV antibiotics despite a bad reaction at one time.

Rather than start the patient on a second abx the treating Dr. (fearing medical review) stopped treatments. The patient crashed and might have been "Post Lyme" in more ways than one except that another Dr. resumed IV treatments with another antibiotic.

Which helped the patient to improve.

Oh my God!

My friend's young brother was just diagnosed by Dr C.

First my mother's treatment is affected by what happened to Dr. J in NC and now my friend's brother with Dr. C!

It seems like all of the more well known doctors are being targeted right now!

I am so sad for this kind of harassment of good doctors.

Mad at the 'system' that allows the harassment. Sad for what the doctors have to live under.

I am lifting up this doctor's heart before the Father's 'higher court' for protection, strength and JUSTICE!

[cussing] NO, NOT ANOTHER ONE OF OUR MIDWEST "HANDFUL" OF LLMDS!! this stinks to high heaven ... wisc. and now missouri!

looks like the idsa are getting their revenge for us being vocal, writing newspapers galore, etc.

i'll copy this paste to my lyme mailing list as i know he has OTHER patients that go to him!!

it's dr. c's well-explained western blot igm and igg explainations that have helped us all so much! he gives out detailed info for each meeting, etc!

dr. c/family, you all are in my prayers as well as his extensive patients!

Dear God,

may the witch hunt for our CHRONIC llmds stop for good this day. these mds have chosen to give us the best possible help and treatments to get us into REMISSION and be able to live QUALITY LIVES with our loved ones and family.

please give a stern lecture to the ISDA MDS to open their minds and work WITH OUR LLMDS instead of being adversaries!

may they form a bond and work for the PATIENT'S WELLNESS/CONCERNS vs. the almighty big $$ the 4 IDSA members get on their FEDERAL RESEARCH GRANTS.

may the brilliant minds in both groups work for US PATIENTS; not just for THEIR own personal causes.

in Jesus name, amen ...... [group hug] [kiss] [group hug]

this is awful, and no surprise. since there has not been resolve or effective address of this kind of reporting made on other LLMD's (particularly east coast - doc j, other doc j, doc b, doc h and doc l have been persecuted, as we know), it was only a matter of time before all LLMD's nation wide became targeted.
a sort of precedent has been set.

wishing this case good luck..
two standards of care medico-legal argument regarding lyme treatment is a strong defense. doc c hopefully knows that, and hopefully there is a community which can help him.

I was PM'd concerning editing my post to delete this doctor's name from the post.

I have edited this post to delete the full name. However, it is a moot point, considering the fact that he is being targeted, and the powers that be who want him gone have known who he is for a long time, as is the case with ALL our good Lyme doctors.

Lord, I am asking for you to intervene on the behalf of Dr. C.

I think once again the problem is the medical community beging divided on how to treat lyme disease and the lack of knowledge and lack of Igenex and Bowen (I believe they are called something else now) being accepted by the general medical field.

Not sure how all of this works.

The information that IV's do help improve ones health has go to be accepted.

When these things happen, I keep hoping it is a positive thing and it will help with the education of the medical field in general.

But, this all I can do is pray with great disappointment that we have another LLMD spending precious time and money in the courts instead of in research or treating patients or writing papers.

Oh, I can't believe this!!! With Drs. M. and H. closing here in our state, the need for LLMDs is worse than ever.

I'm so sorry for all of you who see Dr. C.........

You know, maybe it's time for some civil disobedience or something. I'd like to find the duck who turned Dr. C. in and, well...... tar and feather him...... at the very LEAST. What I'd really like to do is ruin his OWN medical practice and see how HE likes it. [cussing]

At this point, I'm not sure I care if I end up in jail. [Cool]

We've got to come up with something different in the `activism' department.

They are targeting all the non-IDSA doctors one by one, and pretty soon there will be no doctors able or willing to lay their necks on the chopping block for their patients.

Unfortunately, this will continue until our broken healthcare system is fixed. Or is it too late?? I don't know the answer to this, but all alternative avenues are being targeted also. Seems like the FDA and big pHARMa are doing their best to get and keep us ill. The more I read, the more I believe this.

This is so sad for me. I was a patient of this great doctor back in '02 & '03. Even though he wasn't able to help me (more abx/different abx after 2 yrs), I would/have recommended this doc to anyone seeking help.

He understands lyme patients, he gives it everything to try to help, he researches all treatments, he has very alternative ideas in addition to trying abx and he has a great staff that responds.

What a shame!

Outrageous, I've never heard anything but wonderful things about this Dr!

As Mo says, though, it is also predictable in that there is a clear campaign against LLMDs as a group. I'm also dismayed to learn about the events in Colorado taking place recently.

I hope that the case against Dr. C and the other LLMDS will be so easily refuted that they will be left in peace at least for a while.

We can be pretty sure though that this kind of thing is not going to stop. The other side apparently is betting that we are just going to eventually lie down and die (at one level or another)rather than getting our act together and mobilizing for our lives.

Hope you midwesterners will show the stuff you are made of and in the meantime, that the rest of us are getting ready to play our part as the time ripens.

Sorry for the language, but my first response is ... CRAP, CRAP, CRAP !!!!!

For those who do not know how his practice works -- Dr C starts with oral antibiotics and is somewhat reluctant to prescribe IV's -- very cost conscious.

The reason hubby's PCP was 5 hours away was because Dr C will ONLY prescribe IV antibiotics in one of 2 ways -- requires a PCP who will supervise (hard to come by as many here know) or go see Dr C in person every 6 weeks if he is to supervise IV's. Also requires weekly bloodwork while on IV's.

I don't know any more details about this case than are posted here, but my first reaction was "How many patients on chemo who had complications would have their doc reported to the medical board -- especially by another doc?"

I would really really like to know what the patient involved thinks of Dr C -- but as we all know the medical boards don't care if the patient is happy with their treatment or is recovering their health.

This whole situation makes me very very angry.

We just got back from a 2 week trip, and I just now checked Lymenet and saw this horrible news!

Unbelievable, that this could happen to the best doctor around who truly understands what all Lyme patients go through.

He got me well, and I'm forever grateful.

Most certainly I will pray for our beloved doctor.

Hey All,
Sick to my tummy.
Dr C is my doc also. [Frown]

Dr C is a man of character, a man of God, who wants all of us to become whole and healthy again.

We have all feared this would happen to him/us.

I join in all of these prayers that God puts armour around Dr C and that he is allowed to continue his ministry as a LLMD.

Peace,
BJG

Horrible news. He is my Dr. also. What is the possibility that he has been set up. I think with all that is going on, there is a distinct possibility that non-lyme Drs. are trying to set up LLMDs by sending patients who will testify against them.

Your thoughts?

I don't think you need to worry about Dr C not practicing this summer. I don't think this is the same as the charges against the east coast doctors.

The patient is a current patient of Dr C. I think the patient had their gall bladder removed. A pharmacist (and possibly a doctor) at the hospital didn't "approve" of the meds given.

Dr C said he thinks everything will be OK. He said to keep him in your prayers, especially on July 13th.

Hubby had a previously scheduled phone conference with Dr C on Monday. When we asked him if he would be changing his practice in any way as a result of the charges he said no. He asked for prayers and said he is not overly concerned about the upcoming hearing.

We didn't discuss actual details regarding the case. However, a couple of days later his office called and said they were doing a survey of patients who had PICC lines and received IV antibiotics. Not sure if this survey has anything to do with current charges or not.

I wanted to say I called the office to get the fax number so I could send in the kids bloodwork.

I asked if our appt was still set for the July 18th and about what I heard here. The receptionist said all appts are still standing and that they are just asking for prayers. They didn't think anything was going to come of the court thing.

I also got a call yesterday from someone at his office wanted to confrim that the kids and myself never had a picc or IV since they knew we saw other dr's too.

This is such a sad thing to hear about. I have been to see Dr C...I live in KY...and he was very patient, kind and explained everything to me. Unfortunatly because of the distance and he not taking Medicare anymore, I could not continue.

I will keep him and his patients in my prayers. This is just an outrageous witchhunt and is making me so sad to hear about another LLMD in trouble with the ID docs and Rheumies campaigns. Please keep us posted as to what happens.

this is absolutely awful, he is one of the best lyme doctors out there. He was my doctor for over a year. We will keep him in our prayers until this ends! God bless you dr.C! [group hug]

I have been forwarded the following email concerning Dr. C's hearing on Friday. Please keep him in your prayers!

Dear Patients and Friends of Lyme Patients,

Dr. Charles Crist will have a hearing tomorrow, Friday, July 13, before the Missouri medical board. A patient had a bad reaction to an IV, and a doctor (not the patient) filed a complaint. Now he is at risk of losing his license for treating chronic Lyme disease and Masters' disease. Dr. Crist is asking for prayers. His hearing will be at 12:30 in the afternoon. We should concentrate our prayers at that time. Pray that this Friday the thirteenth will be a lucky day for Dr. Crist and Lyme disease patients.

Dr. Crist is one of the best Lyme disease and tickborne illness specialists in the central states. If he loses his license, we will all suffer. Other doctors in Missouri will be reluctant to treat Lyme disease with antibiotics. Missouri Lyme doctors are treating thousands of patients who have Lyme and Masters' disease who come from all over Missouri and many other states, and even some foreign countries. If these doctors stop treating Lyme, the patients will have to find doctors elsewhere, which will increase the time people have to wait for an appointment with the Lyme specialists in other states.

Please pray for Dr. Crist and for Lyme patients everywhere. Also, remember to pray for Dr. Charles Ray Jones. He had 9 hearings before his state medical review board in Connecticut. His hearings are over, but the medical board has not come to a decision yet.

Thanks for bringing this link to the top! I was on vacation when it was first presented here.

So now I get to add my $.02!! [Big Grin]

Dr Crist is THE reason I was dxd with Lyme and got my life back!

I will be doing my share of praying tonight and tomorrow. I think it would be great if all of us remembered our LLMD's in prayer everyday for what they sacrifice for us.

After having this disease most of my life, it's great to have my life back now!

Thanks, Dr C! [hi]

There can be bad reactons to everything in medicine! No procedure is exempt. So the issue for me becomes: do the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks? Generally we proceed because we think so.

I hope he has other people there with him who can explain to the board that Lyme patients do benefit from IV treatment! And as such, he and patients have every right to opt for such treatment.
