After years of being like Rip Van WInkle, my daughter now has developed insomnia...
She was unable to sleep at all last night and barely able the night before...
she is on Zithro and bactrim for babesia and LD..
COuld this be a herx, I wonder? ...or possibly a sighn that her energy is finally returning?
Anyone experience this here?
Any input would be very appreciated.

I am sorry that your daughter is experiencing this. My son is on Babesia treatment right now. He too experiences the insomnia. He takes melatonin every night. Some times it helps some times it doesn't. So he just sleeps when his body allows him too.
He tried many sleep meds but they didn't work and he hated how it made him feel.
Have you tried Benadryl?
Best, Karen

Hi Elle108, I get insomnia periodically. For me, I think it is related to herxing. I started taking Melatonin which would help me fall asleep, but not stop me from waking up early and having lots of weird, vivid dreams.
Eventually I will get so tired that I start sleeping again, but it takes from 1-3 weeks of very little sleep. It is really hard mentally and physically.
Hopefully your daughter will get some proper sleep soon.

I have lived with insomnia for 2 years now with lyme disease. I have found that a baby dose of seroquil will put me to sleep. (25mg) At night I usually try to calm down and I take it about an hour before bed.
Other things that very slightly help are magnesium, melotonin, l-tryptphene (not sure on spelling)

Herxing gives me insomnia as well, especially when targeting babs - seems like babs treatment makes sleep the impossible dream.
Sleep meds have helped with getting me through the worst of it - is that a possibility for your daughter?
Hope she gets some sleep soon, cactus

Thanks everyopne for the input. If the insomnia kieeps up, we'll ask her LLMD when she sees him next week. May try the melatonin in the meantime, too.
Thanks, Elle

I've lived with insomnia for the past 11 years due to Lyme. Both Bart and Babs treatment has brought it out again, after it was being controlled with a lot of different meds.
Now I sleep for about four hours before the tossing and turning begins. I think it's part of the reason I feel so lousy compared to six months ago.
Mine is definitely part of a herx. However it is ever-present for the past several months, in connection with Bart and now Babs treatment.

My daughter has had terrible bouts of insomnia for the past 6 years. About the only thing that has helped is Xanax.
I also have insomnia and have had off and on for most of my life. I usually just go with it, if I can't sleep I work at something, when I can sleep, I do.
I've also tried Xanax and it has helped, although it does cause vivid dreams.

I am also doing bactrim and zith for babs/lyme-I haven't seen anyone else doing that combo. Been on it 3 months and sleeping MUCH better.
How old is your daughter, and who is your LLMD? Just curious why he is also using bactrim intead of mepron/malarone. I have some vivid dreams though.

I am on bactrim for babs too. Was just added it in last week along with 1 malarone a day and 250mg of zithro. It is killing my stomach! I
started to herx off this combo a few days after adding the bactrim. My insomnia has been really
bad the past couple of days. When my babs symptoms are bad I can't sleep. I will
sometimes get up and read a book. This helps me relax and feel sleepy. Maybe get your daughter
a good book! Another thing, sleepy time tea is always good. Hope she gets over it soon.
