hello, I am new on this board but I wanted to ask a question...after doing some searching I am still not sure if my son's results point to anything but from reading here it might... IgM everything - except: **31 kDa IND **41 kDa IND 66 kDa +
IgG everything - except: **41 kDa
his IFA, B Burgdorferi G/M/A result was <1:40 titer, which is negative
both western blots IgG, IgM result was listed as neg for Igenex and CDC/NYS
do I something to be concerned about ? thanks

Hi beachtime. Below is the breakdown of the Western Blot bands:
9 cross-reactive for Borrellia 12 specific for Bb 18 unknown 20 cross-reactive for Borrellia 21 unknown 22 specific for Bb, probably really the 23/25 band 23-25 outer surface protein C (OspC), specific for Bb 28 unknown 30 unknown; probably an outer surface protein; common in European and one California strain 31 outer surface protein A (OspA), specific for Bb 34 outer surface protein B (OspB); specific for Bb 35 specific for Bb 37 specific for Bb 38 cross-reactive for Bb 39 is a major protein of Bb flagellin; specific for Bb 41 flagellin protein of all spirochetes; this is usually the first to appear after a Bb infection and is specific for all Borrellia 45 cross-reactive for all Borellia (sometimes people with Lyme who have this band positive also have the co-infection Ehrlichiosis) 50 cross-reactive for all Borrellia 55 cross-reactive for all Borrellia 57 cross-reactive for all Borrellia 58 unknown but may be a heat-shock Bb protein 60 cross reactive for all Borrellia 66 cross-reactive for all Borrelia, common in all bacteria 83 specific antigen for the Lyme bacterium, probably a cytoplasmic membrane 93 unknown, probably the same protein in band 83, just migrates differently in some patients
From what I understand, the IgM tests for a more recent infection, the IgG a longer standing one. Band 41 is often the first to show, and his is positive on both. Band 31 is a Lyme specific band and his is IND.
How old is he? Is he having symptoms? If you would like a doctor recommendation, feel free to PM me.

Maybe a 28 day course of antibiotics followed by retesting ten days after
He finishes the meds would give you more specific info.
Is he symptomatic?
My daughter had IND bands for band 34 and 39 (IgM) and 41++ IgG.
She was highly symptomatic.
Doing better with antibiotic therapy.
Hugs,
Geneal

Just try doxycycline. Very well tolerated antibiotic with slight stomach upset. Try it for at least a few weeks and see if there is any improvement. Only way to know for sure. Medicine is still in the dark ages.... Lyme was just discovered in my lifetime... the 80's, maybe it's something similar enough

I am not a doctor but I personally don't think his tests point to anything in particular. That said, there have been many documented cases of seronegative lyme disease which is why lyme is a clinical diagnosis and not just based on blood tests. As you've probably read here, blood tests are not very accurate. Also, most of the co-infections don't have very accurate testing either.
If you have reason to believe that your child has lyme disease, please seek an LLMD (Lyme literate MD) as has already been suggested. Not a good idea to put a child on prescription medication unless under the care of a doctor and if you want to know about the possibility of lyme or co-infections then you need an LLMD.
Good luck, Terry
